Vargas-Mayorga on Sept 8?
http://www.fightnews.com/fightnews_2...VdlhnvoLV.html
In an interview with David Lassen in the Sunday edition of the Ventura County Star, former world champion Fernando Vargas stated his last bout is tentatively set for Saturday, September 8th at a venue in Los Angeles. Vargas will not only be the headliner, but will serve as the promoter under his new promotional company, Vargas Entertainment Promotions. Word is Junior Middleweight Alfonso Gomez has already signed under Vargas' promotional company. Vargas has dismissed critics for following through with his fight against former world champion Ricardo Mayorga. "I've got one more great fight in me. People can say what they want to say. This will be the last hurrah. Win, lose, or draw. That's it." The fight against Mayorga will be fought at a catch-weight of 162 pounds, eight pounds heavier than what he last fought at. "That 8 pounds is the world," Vargas says, "and people don't understand that.

Re: Vargas-Mayorga on Sept 8?
Ugh. Hopefully they don't even try to pretend like this is PPV material.

Re: Vargas-Mayorga on Sept 8?
I, for one, am looking forward to a slobber, and perhaps, even a knocker.
But I have had my heart broken many a time by rumours of a Vargas and Mayorga showdown.
I must ask, how much more can a heart take?
Am I to welcome them back into my life, only to be trampled on again?
Or am I to shun them, just as they have shunned me in the past and perhaps miss out on something that can be great?
Oh, the decisions a young girl must make on the eve of whatever tomorrow brings.

Re: Vargas-Mayorga on Sept 8?
I'd like to see Vargas win this. Hopefully, Mayorga starts running his mouth, and we get a slugfest.

They should put Leonard-Hagler II on as the co-feature.

No way Hagler would agree to be on the undercard of a Vargas fight he has way more left in the tank.

There's goes Hulk again hoping for another Mayorga win...haha. I hope this is a good fight but the truth is THEY SUCK at this point. I wouldn't be surprised to see both of them KO eachother (simultaneously)and not get up. That would be funny as hell.

Re: Vargas-Mayorga on Sept 8?
Hulk,
It looks like the fights gonna land here in Los Angeles depending on the card & the price of the tickets I might attend the fight. I know this fights ending in a spectacular KO and I wanna witness it......
Being that punk azz Guzman pulled out of the Katsidis fight I'm trying desperately to find events to attend.... It also looks like the Margarito vs. Williams is also landing here in Los Angeles too but no venue has been mentioned yet...

CC. Ya know, I'm almost 20 now, and honestly this MIGHT be the last time in my life I will have the chance to see my hero, Mayorga, fight LIVE, so if I can get my buddy to come with me, we might just have to come down there and see the fight too. You only live once.

Re: Vargas-Mayorga on Sept 8?
Hulk, I respect the fact he is your hero. I hope he is in shape and does not stick out his chin at Vargas like he has at other guys.
-
Re: Vargas-Mayorga on Sept 8?
I've been saying it over and over again, Fernando needs to retire.
If he wants to go out with a win, then that's fine, but he should fight some stiff who can't hurt him. Mayorga might not have much left, but he's still a dangerous puncher and I could see him seriously hurting Vargas.

You know he will. He sticks his chin out at everyone and both of these guys have a habit of blocking with their face so it should be a great action-packed fight with a lot of great shots landing and it probably will come down to either who has the bigger heart or if Vargas decides he wants to try to establish rhythm, range and box Mayorga. If he does, in my opinion he's a much better boxer and just as capable of a toe-to-toe brawler should he get caught or pushed into that kind of situation during the fight as well. Vargas by KO in 10!

Re: Vargas-Mayorga on Sept 8?
I think the pressers are gonna be just as exciting as the fight.
This is just gonna be two warriors going at it. A poor mans Hagler/ Hearns anyone?
Mayorga by KO is my pick!

It does suit Vargas, its a strange weight to be doing it at. Why on earth cant it be at 160 even?
Either way Mayorga is gonna spark him!! A final fight to remember!! ;D

True, it is kind of an arbitrary weight for a former 147 lber and 154lber to be fightin at. Didn't Green and Miranda fight at catchweight of 162 or somethin?
-
Re: Vargas-Mayorga on Sept 8?
I agree that both of these guys are finished. But how can you not watch this fight. Both of these guys are gonna sit there in the middle of the ring and slug it out and talk shit. Mayorga is an above average fighter at best in my opinion, but he is one of the most entertaining boxers to watch today. I may try to score tickets to this one if it happens.

Re: Vargas-Mayorga on Sept 8?
I'm picking Mayorga, cuz Vargas has a weaker chin & likes to slug & will get caught
