Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
I think the real question is will they actually go through with it... :-\
How do you guys see it playing out and why?

Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
I think Cotto has the best chance of coming out of it. If he gets by Judah then he can beat the winner of the Williams/Margorito fight. I think that there are some good style match ups between all four fighters, any fight made out of these four fighters would be a good fight.
-
Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
Margarito.
Cause he's "a monstor for his weight". LOL
-
Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
I could definitely see Margarito sneaking up on these guys and walking away from this thing with 2 wins. Whoever comes out of this thing deserves a showdown with pbf.
-
Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
Welterweight is definately hot at the moment.
I think Williams is the dark horse. The only real measuring stick we have of him is that he destroyed Mitchell one round later than Kostya and two rounds quicker than Floyd.
We know what Judah brings to the table or rather what he doesn't bring ;D but can Cotto's chin hold up? Zab's fast hands are certainly going to find it.
If I had to put money on one of them (keeping in mind I don't have much left thanks to Oscar's jab beating him into retirement) I'd go with Cotto.
-
Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
Just been watching Williams on youtube god he's good so either him or Judah

Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
Judah beats Cotto.
Cotto beats Judah in a rematch.
There's no rubber match.
Meanwhile, Margarito beats Williams.
While Cotto and Judah are having their rematch, Margarito and Clottey get it on for their anticipated rematch.
Clottey upsets Margarito in their rematch.
Floyd beats Mosley during this time.
Clottey fights Cotto.
Cotto beats Clottey.
Cotto wants a shot at Floyd.
Floyd says Cotto lost to Judah, a man he beat, and denies him of a fight.
Floyd tries for the 160 WBC belt against Spinks who upsets Taylor Saturday.

Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
Mann ..I like cotto.. But im gona have to say judah..
In fact..If this tournament..Is actually a tounament.. then i really want to see judah - williams..I think thats a great fight..Strange but interesting..
Thing is im not sure..Is it an official tournament...
Because in all fairness i think its just cotto and margarito that wanted to fight eachother to unify..
Margarito had to fight paul williams his mandatory.. and so cotto went off to find a great fight inbetweens..
Alot of people are assuming both margarito and cotto will both win these fights, they have to for each other to stay interested in the fight and for the fight to actually be a unification..
Problem both theyr oponents are very good fighters.. And it might not come off that way.. I wouldnt put big money on the results of either fight..
Im sure all four have actually thought of this..Whether this is considered officially as a mini tourni or not im sure all fighters will have considered facing the winner of the other bout for unification purposes..
But i tip zab judah to beat cotto..Unfortunately by stoppage.. :-\
Then its basically a throw up for margarito - williams..
Is margarito over hyped.. Then again is williams?
Margarito doesnt seem like an incredible boxer?.. Could he get out boxed?
Williams has never faced someone with the power of Tony..Can he take a lick?
Promising stuff dont you think? :)

Yeah, it's like pitting all the elements against each other.
Water beats fire, but fire beats wood. But wood beats water... What element comes out on top?
It's kind of like the heavyweight picture, except it's interesting.

Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
Id say Cotto his time is comin. He will stop zab late on when he loses interest. tony will prob beat williams but if williams box's and doesnt try and brawl he could get an upset. and i think cottos got to many tools for tony to deal with.

Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
good points from everyone. Either way, does anyone think Floyd will fight the winner of this tournament? Even if the winner is....dare I say...Margarito?

yeh I hadn't really considered it.
It wouldn't look good for Floyd knocking back $8 mil claiming Tony is a nobody when he is ranked Ring Magazines no.1 Welterweight and has cleaned out the division. ^-^

Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
Since PBF fought at Light. Midd. and therefor his status at Welter shifts to that div. heres how I rate the Welters....
1. Margarito - His longevity in the div. plus being a 2-time WBO Champ. working on his 8th defense of the title earns him this spot.
2. Cotto - He moves up to Welter and takes on a natural 147 lber. wins the title and automatically takes on his mandatory.
3. Baldomir - The sh*t! he did last year was insane and talk about being at the right at the right time. After his loss that drops him off here.
4. SSM - His last 4 fights have been at a catch weight, warm up fights if you will. He then messes up his status and fights Vargas at a catch weight. He comes to 147 and beats Collazo soundly.
5. Williams - Hes moved up too slow IMO, but hes here now and it's to time to step it up and show what hes got.
-
Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
Here's how I see the potential match-ups:
Most likely:
Judah beats Cotto
Margarito beats Williams
Margarito beats Judah
Next most likely:
Cotto beats Judah
Margarito beats Williams
Cotto beats Margarito
Really, I think Cotto is the guy Judah has the best chance at beating, because Cotto's smaller than the other guys, and Judah can beat him from the outside. He can't beat the other two from the outside. And I don't pick him to win fights on the inside.
Conversely, I think Judah is the guy Cotto is least likely to beat, but I'd pick Cotto over either Margarito or Williams.
Finally, I like Williams (and I can't stand Margarito), but I don't think he's ready for Margarito. Same style (i.e., undisciplined, wide, and 100% offensive), probably more skilled, but way less experienced (sure he's had almost as many fights, but the level's really not there).
But I also like Meowza's scenario. And I agree that Clottey beats Margarito in a rematch.

Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
its hard to decide but i think judah
-
Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
For the record I think Cotto wins the little tourney....
-
Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
It's a toss up. I'd say that if Cotto beats Zab, he has the edge, but a "war" with Tony might be his undoing.
Lets just all hold our breath and hope Floyd fights the winner. ;)
-
Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
At this moment, I'd predict Cotto to win a mini-tournament, but I have to say that I think we should all wait until we see the two fights coming up.
Cotto/Judah and Margarito/Williams will tell us a TON about each fighter.
-
Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
I think it is between Margarito and Williams. Judah's chin will not hold up to Margarito or Williams.
-
Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
Zab beats Cotto
Tony and Williams is a toss up
but if Tony wins Zab will win, his hooks are just to wide and easy to duck and counter.
if williams wins, he may have what it takes to beat Zab, but Zab has had better opposition and more experience...
but my money's on Zab

i belivee that water KTFO wood, its a slow process of corrosion, but it will happen, thats like water outboxing wood

Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
Cotto all the way.
How are you expecting Zab to knock Cotto out? Zab was all different flavours of shite against Baldo and Floyd and I don't think he would have knocked Spinks out had Spinks not stopped to look at the referee. Zab is waaaaaaaaaaay overrated. Cotto to destroy him.
I also don't really see whats so special about Margo...but I've mentioned that a million times on this forum.
Williams to beat him and then lose to Cotto.
Cotto beats Floyd and then challenges Butterbean and loses when the Bean sits on him for the 10 count.

Cc.. Ive said that there is Alot!! That is uncertain about how this tourni is going down..
But you hit the nail on the head with that one.. The one thing that is certain..Is that this tournament will tell us alot about each fighter..
This is all four fighter's biggest fights to date!

It's hard to say none of these guys don't deserve a shot when you consider Baldomir, Gatti and Mitchell all got one before De La Hoya. I think Floyd would look pretty comfortbale beating all 4 of the guys in the mini tournament to be honest. Maybe Cotto and Williams have more of a chance of making it quite competitive.

Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
I think this is great. It hard to say for sure who will come out on top. If it was a round-robbin instead of a tournament most likely each fighter would lose at least one fight and win at least one fight.
There are so many questions that will be answered.
In the first round of fights:
Judah is probably better than Cotto but will he keep his cool once he starts getting tagged? Will Cotto be able to handle Zab's speed and power? Is Margarito overrated? Are we expecting too much from the young Paul Williams?
In the second round:
If Williams wins will he be able to handle a totally different style from another A fighter that is Cotto or Zab?
If Margarito wins what can he do with a fighter with much more experience and skills in Zab or a fighter with just as much hart and determination as he does in Cotto?
If Zab wins how will he coup with the long reach and power of Williams or Margarito?
If Cotto wins does he have what it takes to become the next great puertorrican champion by beating a bigger, stronger and just as hungry Williams or Margarito?
These is just matchmaking at its very best. I hope they go all the way through with it and I hope we get to see many more match ups like this. It can only be good for boxing.

Actually, wasn't Zab the one that turned and looked into the audience instead of spinks?

From what I remember, Spinks just stopped dead looking at the referee and Zab clocked him with a hard left...but I'll watch it again to see.

cool let me know. I thought i remembered it that way but we'll see.

Re: Who wins the Cotto - Judah - Margo - Williams mini tournament.
Lol..Your all wrong!! LOL.. Zab walked away from spinks in i believe the tenth round of theyr first fight and looked out at the crowd and as he turned round spinks stepped to him with a southpaw right hook ;)
Lol..I had him winning that round before he gave spinks a bit of fire to steal the round..And granted thats what he did.. Got pissed off with zab and stole the round

I think what you was thinking was when joe cortez was breaking them up or telling them to split and judah was smiling at the referee when he clocked spinks in the tie?

Ok Who Wins Out Of The Welterweights
This is how i see it
Williams vs Margarito = Margarito by tko
Castillo vs Hatton = Hatton by ud
Cotto vs Margarito = Margarito by ud
Hatton vs Cotto = Cotto by tko
I personally think Cotto will beat everyone at Welterweight unless Mayweathers moves back down and Mosley retires.
And i included Hatton because i personally think he will win and move up will be surprised if he don't.
-
Re: Ok Who Wins Out Of The Welterweights
I think Floyd beats Cotto & Mosley would be a great match-up.
I think Margarito tops Williams.
I pick Castillo to dethrone Hatton.
If Floyd stays retired & Mosley retires then Cotto/ Margarito would be for the vacant championship. I'd pick Cotto over Margarito!
