Good call on Tua what about Ike aswell and as for Tyson he had pretty good chin in his prime he took terrific punch for Bruno that rocked him and uppercut from Tucker that lifted him off his feet and how about Vitali aswell ??

Re: How Many Big Punches Have There Been That Haven't Been Chinny ??
Rocky Marciano is a great fighter in my book, but as far as I'm concerned a chin is only as rugged as how hard you protect it. Even with Marciano, when he through a unorthodox combination at Archie Moore, Archie Moore floored him with a right uppercut, which Rocky admitted was the hardest punch he's ever felt. Jersey Joe Walcott was able to set him up a couple of times and was able to hurt Rocky on those occasions. Marciano was hard to hit, his crouch, his cross-arm defense and how he'd crowd his opponents gave a lot of guys trouble. Joe Louis said it himself "He's young, he's strong and he's hard to hit.
Anyways, guys like George Foreman and other punchers are less inclined to get hit when their opponents are on the defensive.

Re: How Many Big Punches Have There Been That Haven't Been Chinny ??
Tito..
No way he was chinny.. Getting flash knockdowns early because of the struggle to make weight and warm up properly pre fight does not make you chinny..
Just before that arguement was brought up i thought i would kill it :)

Re: How Many Big Punches Have There Been That Haven't Been Chinny ??
Tyson had an extrememly good chin. His KO losses to Douglas, Holyfield and Lewis only occurred after he had eaten tons of big punches that would have KO'd just about anyone else.

Re: How Many Big Punches Have There Been That Haven't Been Chinny ??
Hagler? he could defo punch and had a chin made of Iron!
-
Re: How Many Big Punches Have There Been That Haven't Been Chinny ??
Hagler is a great example. Although maybe he isn't as explosive as people would like.

Pacquio has a good chin and he's a puncher.
Oneal Bell has a hell of a chin and punch.
-
Re: How Many Big Punches Have There Been That Haven't Been Chinny ??
What about Archie Moore he only had 7 ko losses in 220 fights and out of 185 wins 131 were ko's so could he be a big puncher who were'nt chinny

Re: How Many Big Punchers Have There Been That Haven't Been Chinny ??
I'll just stick with current fighters as the past names have all been mentioned but Jeff Lacy and Carl Froch are two that stand out.
I'm not sure about Valero yet but considering how many shots he takes he is probably one tough mofo.
Oh and Edison Miranda seems to have a hard head too.

Thats an interesting thing i always pondered on about duran..
A great fighter.. Fought all the best.. Leonard couldnt knock him out, Neither could hagler..
Both great fighters..Packed a great punch.. And roberto was naturally a lightweight
and hagler a great middleweight puncher could not ko him..
And the hearns loss...Put that into perspective with the rest of duran's career.. Says nothing bad about durans chin.. But tells us all too much about Hearns' devastating power

JLC,Duran, Hagler, Tua, Tyson, etc.
I'll give a shout to Antwan Echols. Not the best chin, but not too shabby.

CC. Antwun Echols was a motherfukin Pimp! He was a hard ass KO Puncher from Iowa. You see how much it toook from Bernard to floor him? Then watch the Charles Brewer fight, Brewer knocked him on his ass about 3 times in a matter of a couple rounds. :o

Valero is a hell of a puncher. Mosquera floored him so he's no superman.
Pac has no granite chin either. He's just good of shaking it off when he gets rocked.

Re: How Many Big Punchers Have There Been That Haven't Been Chinny ??
Vitali Klitschko definately,he was never down in 210 amateur fights and 37 pro fights. :boxing:

Re: How Many Big Punchers Have There Been That Haven't Been Chinny ??
George Chuvalo and Jerry Quarry deserve recognition. Those were two big punchers with absolute granite chins.
-
Re: How Many Big Punchers Have There Been That Haven't Been Chinny ??
Marvin Hagler???
Joe Frazier....Roberto Duran....Ibeabuchi (from what we can gather from 20 fights)....JC Chavez.....Kostya Tszyu....Harry Greb (never KO'd).....

Re: How Many Big Punchers Have There Been That Haven't Been Chinny ??
I always thought that the guys who punched didn't have great chins because they were so involved in delivering a punch that they ended up caught as they were punching and got the effects more dramatically than someone who tightens up and sees the punch coming. Although the lean fighters like Bob Foster or Tommy Hearns or Terry Norris all did not take the best punch, the guys who punched who were squat like Tyson and Tua took good punches yet had to be inside. I think the inside big punchers took better punches than the guys who hit hard from the outside. Foreman is a guy who was both.. He punched hard on the outside and inside yet he was bigger than most so he absorbed the big punches well. Problem with big punchers are that they hit so hard that usually they were not used to getting hit well. But guys who hit hard and had ok chins were Tyson, Tua, Foreman, Hagler, although Hagler was not a big big puncher, but he was decent. One thing about punchers is that Hearns did not take Barkley's punch well in the first fight, but in the second fight he was on the ropes and knew the punches were coming and he took hard punches which surprised alot of people. As though just knowing the punches were coming mad him take it better. Foreman had a better chin later in his career. And Tyson took a punch ok, but the punch would take steam out of him.

You bring up good points about Foreman later in his career and his chin being better at that stage,,,If you ever see his later fight's ( this is the exact same reason James Toney takes his punches so well) he rolls with the shots even the ones he get's hammered on big he rolls with and that takes a lot of steam off the shots...It is truly an art that if not mastered you will get KO'd quick

Re: How Many Big Punchers Have There Been That Haven't Been Chinny ??
Early toney for certain
But an incredible example...
Roberto Duran.. - ..Iran barkley
Some would say duran past prime.. Some , maybe i would say his last hurrah..
But you watch barkley - duran round 8 and tell me roberto doesnt have an iron chin!
Whats more it tells you something about hearns' devestating power after seeing duran take shots like this ;) :)

Re: How Many Big Punchers Have There Been That Haven't Been Chinny ??
Julian Jackson.
Just kidding!!!!
Seriously, I'd mention Tyson, Foreman, Frazier.
At the lower weights, I'd say Aaron Pryor must be mentioned. Those right hands he ate from Alexis Arguello would've floored a small elephant. And Pryor could downright wallop!
