Why Should Calzaghe Fight Taylor?
Taylor IMO, is the least dominant Middleweight Champion the division has probably ever seen. ALL of his title fights have been close and saying that he won more rounds than he has lost since the first Hopkins fight is being generous. Taylor is not a good guy to take on if Joe wants to make his American fanbase larger because Jermaine is not a real draw IMO. If Calzaghe fought and beat him I don't think that would help his legacy much because Taylor has already been beat 3 times before at this level IMO. Pavlik would have destroyed him last night. Taylors HBO belt means nothing to most boxing fans. People criticize Calzaghe, and I'm not a huge fan of either, but at least hes had some solid performances as champion.

Bragging rights, titles, money, & the quickest route to Hopkins...or Wright for that matter & therefore fame & fortune of the highest level.

I just think that Calzaghe will be criticized for fighting a Middleweight. Taylor should fight Pavlik and Calzaghe should fight Kessler. To me those are the only fights that make sence. Taylor-Spinks didnt make sence to me, Spinks was supposed to make Taylor look dominant to boost his image and now he has to prove himself even more.

:coolclick: Pretty much totally agree with your post...but a win over Taylor would really REALLY do a lot for him historically & in the casual boxing public's eyes.

Calzaghe only fights guys he knows he can beat. He will never fight Kessler or Mundine. The fact that Taylor was a former world champion just adds to it. Calzaghe is a girl, who fights bums, or just guys he knows he can win against.

Hillarious. Taylor's still a World Champion. He took the titles from Hopkins & no one has taken them from him. He still retains them...the only titles that he's lost he vacated...nothing adds to that.
Calzaghe's a hell of a fighter & to say that he only fights guys he knows he can beat is ridiculous. Calzaghe just dispatches everyone that he meets.
There's no point in him fighting Mundine...he's a joke. Kessler? Yeah...he should fight Kess...but not Mundine.
He's done nothing worth bragging over at 168lbs but lose to Kessler.

He shouldn't. He should fight Kessler, instead. Besides, Taylor needs to give Pavlik an opportunity. Those are the two logical next fights.

taylor should fight Pavlik but if he gets more money to fight JC and we know he will than he gonna fight JC.

cc yeah a casual boxing fan may look at it as a big win but if he retires without fighting Kessler there will be a question mark in the history books imo

It's really time for Taylor just to let loose and show his great athletic ability and skills in the ring. I think people are being a bit hard on him...he has fought some crafty and difficult lefties in his recent fights...so it's not easy to look spectacular. But at the same time...he seems like he cannot find a comfort zone or a style. He has a great jab...so that is always something big to build on. I just think it's time for him to fight someone who will bring the fight to him...and force him to just let loose a bit.

I'm just saying if Joe C. fought Manfredo to get recognition and popularity and whatever else FW said that fight was gonna do.
The Joe you should fight JT for those same reasons and JT can and will deliver those things to Joe IF Joe defeats JT.
Did you know that Joe has had 2 set up fights that were suppose to catapult him to the top. :)
Has it happened? Nope.
But if he fights and beats JT that sure as hell will. :)

I partly agree with you Wacko in that Calzaghe shouldn't bother fighting Mundine & should fight Kessler. But while Taylor is not a bum, he's pretty much only still a champion because of a dodgy judge call imo.

Why? Because it's a big fight for big money against a top opponent, the champion of one of boxing traditionally important divisions, and a guy who hold victories over Hopkins and Wright. I would love to see this fight happen, and I would definately favor Calzaghe. Kessler will still be there for him if he wants it after Taylor, and that would become a much bigger fight if Calzaghe beats Taylor first.
