Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
If the two top white Heavyweights of the 90's had fought, who would have come out on top? Whould Golota have been KO'd? Would he have gotten himself DQ'd? Or would Morrison's chin failed him and would he have been knocked out?
These could have been a great fight, but it never happened. It's hard to pick Golota to win a big fight with his track record, but I"m thinking maybe he would have knocked "The Duke" out.

Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
Morrison would have scared him with the first punch he landed and then knocked him out of his dress
-
Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
Umm Morrison used to start out quick and was big puncher Golotas worse nightmare i think Morrison could very well stop him in the first round.

Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
Tommy early KO.....Golota liked to start out slow and use the jab

Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
I think if it was the Golota that fought Bowe either time, he would beat Morrisson and probably KO him before he snapped and got Dqed. Golota had a lot more physical talent, but he was susceptable to being bum rushed and caught early. This would be a real kill or be killed fight, although I think Golota could have potentially made it a one sided beat down if he could keep it together for 5 or 6 rounds.

Golota had alot of skills but as you said he didn't like getting pressured early by big punchers and Morrison is big puncher who goes straight for you if Goltoa can't keep Morrison off him in first round it could very well be 1st round ko for Morrison if he can survive the early onslaught he wins ko in middle rounds.

Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
This is who gets hurt first fight.
If the Golota who fought Bowe turns up then he wins in a round.
If any other Golota turns up then Tommy wins in a round.
Dont blink u may miss it .

Golota isn't a fast starter Tommy is i would favour a 1st round ko win for Tommy but its questionable if Golota can handle the early pressure which from other results we have seen looks unlikely.

Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
Golota completely dominated arguable the best Heavyweight on the planet at the time TWICE.
Lewis ruined Golota imo
I think Morriosn was a good chin short of being the best white Heavyweight ever
Hard to call this one

Bowe was great fighter shame he ruined himself but Bowe never dealt with outside fighters well examples Biggs Tubbs ect and even when Holyfield fought an outside game but thing with Bowe if he would of pressure Golota early he would of won in both fights he come out safe and trying to outjab Golota which was the wrong tactic he waited too long to put pressure on Golota im still picking Morrison by ko in 1 Goltoa never dealt with pressure in early going well.

Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
Golota at his best was pretty solid.
I would think Morrison would fatigue at the wrong time and get Koed . however the first few rounds Tommy would have a good chance. Morrison was pretty quick from the gate. and Golata was there to be hit.
-
Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
Golota was very good for a while, but to be fair I think Bowe was pretty much shot by the time he faced Golota, the Holyfield wars had ruined him. So people think this would look like the Lewis fight or the Lamon Brewster fight huh? Maybe.

Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
Bowe was done when he faced Golota and Andrew got a lot of mileage of those two losses...If you look at Golta's career his best victory was against Danell Nicholson or an ancient Tim Witherspoon other than that it was always a loss when he stepped up...I remember the Samson P'uha fight where he was knocked so senseless by the 300+ pounder that he bit Samson in the clinch...The only reason Golta won that fight was P'uha couldn't even lift his hands by the fifth round...Golota was never a big hitter, that was just a myth the Riddick Bowe fights created.
Tommy on the other hand was an enigma in that he did beat some good fighters convincingly; Ruddock, Foreman, Tillis, Hipp(with a broken jaw and hand), Thomas, but lost spectacularly to Bennt, Mercer and Lewis...
Seriously though this is a win for Morrison; Golota didn't move well enough to keep Tommy off of him alla Bennt or Lewis and Golota could NEVER weather the storm that Mercer did to come back in that fight. Also Tommy Morrison learned a lot from the Mercer fight and never came into a fight without the proper cardio again which becomes obvious when you look at his wins against Foreman, Hipp and Williams...I see Morrison winning early/late/ko or decision anyway it comes Golota folds...

Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
Golota would stop Morrison inside 5 rounds

That's cool, But I know Tommy stopped Bowe in 2 rounds when he was his sparring partner for the Holyfield fight.........Truth, Look it up.

Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
7 year old thread ;D. But WTF. Mentally I don't think Golota could stand shoulder to shoulder with Tommy RIP. Morrison was a professional with flaws while Golota was a man who panicked. Often. But..he had a ripping jab as was mentioned and I cannot see that as a flaw. I don't think Mercer just sponged bombs until Morrison punched himself out as is often said but Ray really out boxed and out jabbed him with sapping short shots. There was much more going on in that hellacious scrap. He moved him into mistakes. Yeh, the head of iron helped ;D And while being starched by Lewis in 1 is bad...Morrison wasn't beyond being hurt and starched himself in the 1st to a lesser guy. In the end have to side with faster, more mentally resilient guy who knew he could punch holes in you and never went out until he did or attempted just that and had zero left. Morrison gets off the deck..prob a short shock jab... and beats Golota into a mashed lumpy pumpkin headed tko.

Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
What spicoli said Tommy could win this but both were fragile which would have made this exciting.
-
Saw this thread just now n forgot that I was the one who started it! Lol
Before seeing opening it, my thought was Tommy would win.
Funny how opinions change. Golota nearly always found a way to lose.
Morrison was much more of a winner and a talent.

Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
Hard not to see Morrison landing that lethal left hook and Golota folding like he always did under pressure.
-
Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
Morrison was chinny, but he had a lot of heart. Golota was a shameful quitter and mental midget.
-
Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
Golota on points, but the judges would rob him blind!

Re: Andrew Golota vs. Tommy Morrison in their Primes
As much as I enjoyed Golota's thrashings of Bowe... and I really did... I'd have to agree with the majority about an early Morrision TKO win. Morrison was indeed a fast starter, and Golota was not. One of those lethal hooks from Tommy would've put Golota in trouble, and Tommy would not have allowed Golota to survive the onslaught.
