I say Pavlik beats Taylor
>:mad Taylor seems to look worse and worse with every performance. I don't think he can handle a guy that can knock you out to the body just as easily to the head. Pavlik looks flat footed but he is never off balance. He rolls well with the punches and can use his gloves to deflect alot. I believe he has the bigger heart, the heavier fists, and the better chin.He would be a all around better champion for the fans than Taylor.

I agree he has great chance but like i've said in other threads im not sure Taylor has the chin to take Pavliks bombs i've never seen Taylor in with a puncher so i can't really say.

True he has never had his chin really checked and if there is anyone in the class that can really hurt him its pavlik. That 77 inch reach is scary.

I say Pavlik beats Taylor too.

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
As much as I was impressed by Pavlik's total destruction of a solid tough guy in Miranda, I'm still not convinced he'll beat Taylor. I think it will be a hell of a fight, and I think Pavlik will be a tough fight to anyone at either middle or supermiddle. But I believe Jermain will pull it out with his jab and speed.
I'm not ready to bury Jermain for looking bad against Spinks, like Manny Steward said Spinks has a style that can make just about anyone look bad or fight an ugly fight.
-
Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
Pavlik is very tall fighter.. very big for middleweight it seems ...
Taylor's recent lack of determination factor would not fair well against the aggressive , constant output of Pavlik, I would favor Pavlik at this point, Pavlik has the mindset to win at all cost, Taylor is on auto pilot for whatever reason ?

But im wondering what kind of opponent will make him look good ??? because imo he hasn't looked the buisness in his last couple of fights.

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
What Taylor needs is Pat Burns back in his corner. This is the only way hes gonna come back to his old form. Its obvious that he and manny just dont click come fight time. He needs the familiar voice of Pat Burns to bring him back to what he once was. Regardless of his competition he was a better with 15 fights under his belt than he is now. He once thres an array of punches and was an agressive determined fighter. I dont see the desire he once had.

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
What really have you scene from Taylor lately that makes you think he can win.All I see is a champ who is slipping.
-
Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
I hope Pavlik beats Taylor too!
And then Pavlik can say I don't wear a suit but I sure as hell come to fight.
A suit does make me a fighter, knocking fools out and or engaging in war makes me a fighter.
He could go on and add the following statement:
If wearing a suit had anything to do with me being a fighter, I would wear a suit in the ring and fight with that suit on.

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
I think Taylor will win a close decisin, he will frustrate Pavlik and make him come out of his usual style and try to brawl. Pavlik will try and use his reach advantage but Taylor will smother him. The only way i see Pavlik winning is if we discover JT has a glass chin (that is a possibility because he has never been in there with a puncher) but I can't see that happening. Taylor by close UD and then to be K.O'd by Miranda the fight after.
-
Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
I think Pavlik beats Taylor going on Taylor's last few fights but perhaps Taylor needs a Pavlik fight if he fought someone who were hitting him as hard as Pavlik will perhaps he would turn it on and give us a performance to remember
-
Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
Its a tough fight to call cuz Taylor seems to rise or drop to the level of his comp and does just enough .
I've just watched Pavlik - Miranda again and full marks to Pavlik for the way he went about it . He had the height and reach to go about it in a safer way but he wanted to do it the hard way and gave us fans all a treat . I wish there were more like . Taylor got twice the money for half the effort in his fight . Should it come off i'll be hoping Pavlik wins and so will ever other fight fan in the world me thinks

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
Although I believe Pavlik has the tools to beat Taylor, it will not be an easy task to beat the person who beat the executioner twice, close fights, but won both. However, I have the impression that there are some areas that Taylor never got the maturity as a boxer. I see this in his last couple of fights where he had been fighting smaller figthers, still winning, but not as impressive as expected. May be Taylor will be one of those boxers that nobody can beat, but will not have the spark to create big emotions.

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
I dont think Taylor is un beatable. Anyone can get knocked out.
-
Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
One thing is for sure, Pavlik will make Taylor fight. That may not be a good thing for Pavlik though. Taylor hasn't looked good lately, and Pavlik has the tools and physical attributes to win, but, this may be what Taylor needs, is a war to bring him out of his shell. Who knows, I'm from Ohio, as well as you SouthAkron314, and Pavlik, so I like the hometown guy, but I see Taylor pulling it out.

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
+1 just for a fellow Ohioian.

I agree with you both...thing is though, ICB, Taylor faltered under Hopkins' fists & Wright's jabs...I say that Pavlik makes a huge dent & might be able to drop him.

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
I just feel that Pavlik will back him up like he dose to everybody. People say he is slow ,they are crazy. His right is so accurate. In the slow motion of the fist knock down you can see him slightly change the trajectory of his punch and land clean. He will find a place to put his fists. It doesn't take much work for Pavlik to hurt a man. With who sloppy Taylor has looked and how sharp Pavlik has been through out his whole career. I just don't see any other option than a Pavlik knock out in between the 7th-11 round stoppage. New middle weight champ.

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
IMO, Taylor hasn't looked good since he beat Raul Marquez a few years back. Each fight since then, he seems like he can't "figure out" his opponents. It seems to me like he can't consistently land clean shots against his foes, so he basically throws punches to keep them on D. Couple that with the fact that he's turning into yet another boxer going for $$ instead of glory, and I think a hungry Pavlik will knock him on his ass. If Taylor was so gun-shy and cautious against Spinks, he'll be cowering in the ring against Pavlik.
When that fight goes down, if Vegas odds are in favor for Taylor, I'm betting serious bucks on Pavlik ;D

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
Most people thought that miranda would be pavlik..
Now most people think pavlik will beat taylor..
thats a bandwagon if i've ever saw one
I've been watching pavlik a while on.. vs. and espn2 and i always thought he was awsome but knew he wouldnt be able to do that against world class opponents... SUPRISE he did.. pavlik-miranda is the way pavlik always looks against his opponents.. merciless, well-conditioned, focused, gets hit a little too much....
it is very, very hard to favor him against taylor though
the differance between miranda and taylor is night and day..
i knew miranda was overrated and knew a good boxer would smoke him.. and thats what happened..
but taylor GREAT BOXERS havent smoked him.. they couldnt even beat him(5 of 6 judges to taylor against d-hop) so some my be disputed but its clear that taylor can equal THE BEST'S LEVEL..
taylor will not stand in front of pavlik.. pavlik might still knock him out but i'd say that taylor winning a decision would be just as likely.. although i would love pavlik to beat him to give us an exciting champ..
then of course pavlik could fight kessler to see who runs SMW for the next decade

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
No way, Pavlik is too flat footed and doesn't have game plan options... Even though Pavlik is one unbelievably sober, rangy, loose muscled, relentless 1-2 straight punch aggressor and has a lot of snap in those long punches, I still don't believe he can come right at Taylor... Jermain has a lot of technical flaws but he's still a broad shoulders, hell of a physical 160 pounder, he can move up to light-heavy and still bust you up with a pile driver, train load, 1 ton cement block in yo face, the only man who can really frustrate him is Winky ( or Roy Jones at his best) if they decide to do it again and Jermain gets gun shy like against Spinks early on...
-
Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
People are looking to much at the miranda win.......taylor has looked horrible recently trying to hard to impress and ko everyone. I would pick pavlik but i guarantee the way my luck is the day i pick against him is the day the old taylor comes back and that old taylor would beat pavlik. Matter of fact he would've beat miranda as well...
-
Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
I got to know Pavlik was at his best against Miranda and he surely went for it, nobody presses a heavy hitter Pantera against the ropes if they are not aware they can be busted up real bad in return... I just don't see Pavlik hammering Jermain into submission that same way, Winky takes a hell of a punch and he used a careful pressure time against the corners tactic when Jermain took a breather and he was like enough of that in the 12th so, so Pavlik may be knocked out unexpectedly if he uses the same strategy, Jermain slips through and catches Kelly with no reaction time to sustain it... I still say Jermain has to move up to be overpowered, he surely can be out-boxedat 160 but not by Kelly.

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
i want him to beat taylor
taylor pisses me off

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
Sad thing is Debella is trying to have it at 168. I think Taylor knows he will get beat.At least at 168 he wont loose his belt in a defeat.

The only fight where you can really fault Taylor is the Ouma fight. Ouma was tailor-made for Taylor, and Jermain didn't take advantage of it and look good.
I'm not going to fault Taylor for not looking good in his other recent fights. Spinks is an awkward southpaw who didn't want to engage, and Hopkins and Winky are impossible to look good against. No one looks good against Hopkins or Winky.

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
i think pavlic stops taylor in about 11 rounds , with a hot pace and constant pressure.
-
Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
I'm still pondering on this one. I won't make a fast decision here. I will get back with my prediction down the road.

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
I don't know guys Pavlik will come Forward towards Taylor straights all night. IMO

Damn right he will. He did against Miranda and ate allot of hooks and strait rights from him in the process. I know Pavlik will press him. Hell Ouma had him on the ropes. I think with Taylors speed advantage over Pavlik, Pavlik will have to fake allot to try to get him to over commit and open up. Either that or Pavlik will punch through his guard like he dose with everyone else and bully him around the ring. Pavlik mid to the late rounds TKO.

I hope you are right . You gotta give Pavlik props for teh way he fights . Just like Tito he could use his height and reach to stay on the outside but he does it the hard way like a true warrior does . Taylor wont be able to stand the heat IMO but having said that he had no clue how to fight Spinks . He boxed much better against Winky who came at him so we'll see how he handles Pavlik.

Re: I say Pavlik beats Taylor
Southakron314, with all due respect and without much further to do, it must be underlined that sometime ago Kelly was said to be one untested Midwest white middleweight who just broke through with less than impressive wins over Bronco McCart, Fulgencio Zuniga and J L Zertuche. Now that he stole the show May 19th in Memphis, TN, suddenly the skepticism that was turns into strong chances that will be. I just don't buy it, and many have said that Kelly is not versatile or elusive enough to change his approach depending on how the fight goes. Jermain couldn't deal with pressure on the corners against Winky and Ouma yes, but basically cause he didn't have much to shoot at, I strongly believe so... Against a taller (robotic-mummy look alike) stalker, he may just slip underneath the left jab line, power-connect and drop Kelly as it already happened twice in the Youngstown's 25 year older career
