Taylor's only real option is to fight Kelly Pavlik

I just got off my dinner at work and I was reading an article in this week's boxing news. They make the great point that the best option for Jermain Taylor is to fight Kelly Pavlik.

If you think about it, Taylor didn't do anything against Spinks to justify the $6m he craves in order to fight Calzaghe, and to be honest, I think alot of people's interest in him has rapidly faded after some pretty poor snooze fests. However, if he wants to make the money and keep the public interested in him, he should fight Pavlik, as Pavlik is who all the talk is about and if Taylor beats him in a great fight, he can redeem some of the public interest he lost.

If Taylor wants to "make the most money"...in the long run, fighting Pavlik is the only fight that can bring that to him.

It makes sense or Calzaghe to fight the winner of Wright/Hopkins and JT to fight Pavlik. Then Joe can fight JT if they both win.

The problem is not that that is sure to happen like that. I think it would be smart to JT to make a fight NOW with Calzaghe if it can be made. I think he'll make more off a big fight with Joe than a defense against Pavlik, and he stands a pretty good chance of losing either fight.

If Taylor does'nt get motivated and soon Pavlik will be king of the middleweights Taylor did most of his aggressive work after the spinks fight shouting at the camera he has to start been positive

Pavlik is the only fighter Taylor should be concerning himself with. And concerned he should be...he needs to raise his game...

This will be an awesome fight either Taylor kisses canvas or he raises his game and gives a boxing masterclass like we know he can and perhaps even takes Pavlik out this could be a superfight ;)

I couldnt agree more. It certainly wouldnt be a snoozer and thats what Taylor needs in his career. The Spinks fight was just awful. I actually started to cheer on Spinks despite picking Taylor. Taylor sucked! :-\

Taylor COULD fight Pavlik....I'd like that but a Calzaghe fight at 168 would be good too

I still think AA is a bigger fight at MW for him than pavilk, AA is a much better boxer than kelly, may not be as big a punche rbut his all round gae is streets ahead, i feel he has improved alot since the miranda fight too...

Whislt pavilk finished the miranda fight in finer style, styles do make fights...

The only reason AA beat Miranda is because all the cheap shots and penalties that Miranda had.Other than that AA lost. This is a guy that Pavlik murdered. It just doesn't add up. Taylor fighting a guy that won a controversial win against a guy that was murdered by Pavlik.

:coolclick: Most of us has been thinking the same. (Well, at least I have). After Pavlik's last win on a big stage, against a good opponent, his stock has risen dramatically. As for Taylor, well we know where his stock is going. Taylor has already proved that he can box, with his fights against BHOP and Wright, regardless of who people think really won. He needs the beast to come out, and he needs a "war" type fight, or a devastating KO, against a good opponent, or at least put on a boxing "clinic" against a bigger stronger guy. Pavlik, will force Taylor to "fight' IMO. And if Taylor was to get a win, against a bigger opponent who's not just looking to out-point him, but KO his azz, his stock will go back up alot IMO. I think Taylor is getting over-confident, and wants to rush to rush to the big money. I feel that he has the skills, but something is missing, and he needs to be pushed. Hopefully this fight happens, because win or lose, we will either have Taylor, who will still be champ, but with renewed interest, or we will have a new, "exciting", middleweight champ. I feel this fight is good for the game, and for the middleweight division. Even though I'll be rooting for Pavlik, i feel Taylor will rise to the occasion. After getting wins, and a draw against 2 of the best, you can't follow up with just popular names.

mma is a bloodsport whislt boxer can box thier way to a 12 round fight and ill love it, mma can split thier aponent open and it wont prove a damn thing only that a person is vunerale to getting sparked (excuse the splleing im blasted)

I would love to see Jermaine fight Mundine. I think Mundine would be too quick for him. I think Mundine would have Pavlik aswell. Not many like Mundine, but he can bloody fight now. Also before anyone gets stuck into me....he is a natural middleweight not s/middle. ;)

Wright-Taylor wasn't a bad fight at all.

Doesn't mean I'm not interested in Pavlik-Taylor but I could definitely deal with seeing Wright-Taylor 2.

I just feel pavlik will be found wanting if taylor actualy TRYS...

kelly has things going for him.. but in the all round game IMO he isnt really that good, he is pretty slow, lackis intelligence, timing isnt that geat and his varity is easily worked out...

I just hope it happens. It is what most fans want to see.

No way AA is a bigger fight, but I guess that would be an option for Taylor. It would be a good fight, pretty evenly matched, and I wouldn't mind seeing it, but honestly, fighting AA instead of Pavlik or Calzaghe would make JT look like a pretty big punk and most people, myself included, would see it as ducking Pavlik. Pavlik destroyed Miranda, and though I think Abraham's superior skill frustrated Miranda into those fouls, he didn't show much against Miranda, other than INCREDIBLE heart and guts.

True he needs to raise his game and big time if he is to fight Kelly and there is that issue with his chin I doubt he can take a few of Kellys power shots flush I mean look at JT'S fights with Hopkins the B-Hop hurt him on a number of ocassions and its just cuz B-hop didnt look for the ko but to me it looks like a big time KO win for Kelly 8)

Taylor should NOT fight Wright again. I don't say that because i think he would lose...but right now he needs to fight an aggressive fighter who will FORCE him to come out of his shell and show some fire. Fighters like Winky and Hopkins wont do that. Taylor needs to find his comfort zone and just let go...he has plenty of talent. But right now...he really needs to have himself put into a battle.

Whilst Abraham is known to boxing fans I am not to sure how well known he is in the US. Maybe the US fans can answer that one. Before he fights Abraham, Arthur should have a couple of fights in the US to see him. I am sure the US fights fans will like his style.

For me Pavlik is who he should go for but if Taylor does not come off for him what about Pavlik and Abraham fighting. That would be a cracking fight.

Abraham needs to fight Felix Sturm so we have another Middleweight with the other two titles. The two men have been calling each other out. That fight needs to be made. Pavlik should fight Taylor, and the winners of both need to fight each other to find out who is the best Middle out there.


....and then the guy with four belts should fight Howard Eastman ;D ;D ;D

pavlik is his only option but its a good option. calzaghe would of really of whooped taylors ass if they fought. he must be pretty happy coz joe doesn't want to fight him anymore. if the fight with pavlik happens i would love to see pavlik KO taylor

How can you say that. Well answer me this. After seeing a destruction of may the ninetenth. Who do say is the most feared middleweight now. I say its Pavlik. It would be smarter for Taylor to face Abraham. Because Abraham is a win for Taylor.
Think of it this way. Taylor can take a fight with a guy who won a controversial win over a guy that was completely destroyed by the other option. which is the safer fight.

Taylors best option for a victory would be to fight Abraham... which still isn't a gimme.

The best fight though @ middle for me is Talyor/ Pavlik!!!

Abraham, Pavlik OR Calzaghe

any one of those three are fine by me.

JC will most likely fight Kess,AbrAham won't leave his home for a big fight so I think that leaves Kelly. He NEEEDS a tough fight to win back some credit.

Taylor is a joke. The perfect self indulgent supercilious poster boy the sport has been looking for.
