Ray Robinson does beat Mayweather at WW!!!
Wow the guy you always see on replays against Lamotta gets hit with silly punches, and is realitively passive though he throws the occasional combinations. Truth of the matter? He's a 35-38 year old fighting guys who are naturally 20-30 pounds heavier then him, and earlielr on he was fighting at his welterweight size at middleweight. My friend who has more resources than me procured full length welterweight fights of Robinson's that I've been watching, and he is a different man! He is as quick as Leonard throws combinations as smoothly Guzman, but with the KO power of Hearns. He still didn't have the greatest defense, but he had quick reflexes, and great footwork. I think one of Mayweather's greatest gifts and faults is his reliance on speed and defence. One god-given the other trained into him since he was a boy, but Robinson is way faster and hits harder than ODLH, and throws a lot better combinations with more importantly amazing stamina. I think he would have had troubles hitting Mayweather a whole lot just because he didn't fight any fighters like Mayweather especially guys as good defensively, and I also think Mayweather would have been able to tag Robinson, but Robinson was more aggressive when he was younger would have been too much for Mayweather. In 15 rounds I think Mayweather may even get stopped by Robinson but either way he loses. I've always said I rank things how I see them, and I have always try to be truly unbiased. This is an apology to all you guys who even though I doubt you've seen many if any welterweight moments of Robinson, and I bet a lot of people just want to fit in I still apologize to all for the hard time I've given you.

Re: Ray Robinson does beat Mayweather at WW!!!
robinson i feel was overrated.
when you compare him to roy jones and look how they fought roy would have boxed his ears off. well not boxed his ears off but he would have beat him by a wide UD

roy jones prime pound for pound in a vs match would have beat any one. i am not saying his the greatest. i am saying he is the best ever

Re: Ray Robinson does beat Mayweather at WW!!!
I said Mayweather not ROy JOnes Jr. I think Mayweather is technically better than either Robinson or Roy JOnes, but he is lacking one thing. Power. I think Roy would beat either as well, but it would be interesting Mayweather might give him a hard time the same way Griffin did. If p4p Mayweather could handle his punch I think stylewise Roy would have a hard fight.

Re: Ray Robinson does beat Mayweather at WW!!!
Also thats the old the Robinson I was talking about. Welterweight Robinson is a different story.

Re: Ray Robinson does beat Mayweather at WW!!!
roy would have had a little trouble with mayweathers style. but he still would beat him easy. i see 8 rounds to 4 for jones. u have to remember on a pound for pound mayweather has got power, it only changed when he started to move up in the weights. i think jones would have been landing all night long on robinson because he had his hands low. another thing that would have worked well for jones is he had faster foot movement then mayweather. he used to go to the head then the body in a high low fashion. he had a powerful left hook and fast and could hit u with it 4 to 6 times.
jones power was so underated when he went to heavy he hurt ruiz in one of the rounds but chose not to step it up. does any on any one know what jones knock out record was when he was a middle weight and super middle weight

Re: Ray Robinson does beat Mayweather at WW!!!

You mean the Robinson that nobody has seen any film of ???

Re: Ray Robinson does beat Mayweather at WW!!!
I can't see how people think Robinson was overrated. The only time he was stopped was when the heat got to him when he challenged Maxim for the light heavywieght title. He was able to comeback from his losses to Turpin, Basilio, etc., and beat them in the rematch. Most of his losses came near the end of his career. Personally, I don't think PBF could carry his spit bucket.

Re: Ray Robinson does beat Mayweather at WW!!!
Mayweather was and is a much better bocer then Turpin.

First off, that was at light heavyweight and Robinson was old. There are snippets of film of Robinson at welterweight, there are clips of his fight with Gavilan but I don't think I've ever seen a complete film.
And he's talking about a welterweight Robinson that went umm....undefeated in 96 straight fights against some of the greats. Don't need much film there....

heres roy,may,mosley

Toney who's one of the best defensive fighters of all time. Roy was just phenomenal back in those days
Jones? He didn't get hurt for the first 15 years of his career, his skills were mostly reliant on his speed though, but he had great defense and reflexes because of it.

Jones was undefeated for 15 years, his first loss came when he was 35 years old..(of course, that DQ to Montell G. isnt a loss)he was unstoppable in his prime, a legend...

Re: Ray Robinson does beat Mayweather at WW!!!
Its hard to believe that Toney now weighs over 16 stone easy when you watch him at 12 stone

Re: Ray Robinson does beat Mayweather at WW!!!
nobody beats sugar ray come on now, floyd wouldn't last 15 rounds his going to need more than fast feet and hands he can't outboxed sugar ray all night, his going to need heart to brawl, ray would take floyds head off. get serious, floyd is good but he ain't great.
sugar ray is the godfather of boxing, even floyd and roys style is an offspring of sugar rays boxing skills. you can even say ali too is an offspring of rays boxing style.

Not sure about that. I like Jones,my only problem with Jones is the three KO's he suffered. Weak chin, age, I don't know. The difficult part of comparing Robinson to anyone is that there are no known films of his early fights in the 1940's when he was supposed to be at his best. He fought from 1940 to 1943 without a loss until LaMotta beat him. He didn't lose another fight until 1951. 202 total bouts in his career, unheard of today. I guess us boxing fans only wish we could resurrect these guys in their prime and have them fight one another.

Re: Ray Robinson does beat Mayweather at WW!!!
Roy Jones was a great fighter in his prime. But can we please stop saying he was better than Ray Robinson? Because he wasn't.

You don't think Jones couldn't beat Robinson at Middleweight ?? just because Robinson has better resume imo Jones would still win.

Alright, so I made a mistake and got a sad face. They didn't have the one with a bullet hole in the forehead, otherwise you would have got that one. Give me a break. You'll be old someday.

Roy Jones Jr. is my favorite fighter EVER. But Montell was giving him troubles he shouldn't have in the first fight. This was similar to Joe Louis vs. Walcott once Louis knew he could hurt Walcott the second fight didn't last long at all. The greats Roy fought weren't the kind of guys who would have given him a really hard fight. I think Roy would have had some difficulties fighting a really fast guy. He kept his hands lower than Robinson. P4P Robinson at WW might even hit as hard as Roy. I think ROy has faster reflexes and speed p4p than anyone, but he comes second technically to a lot of fighters. If Mayweather was bigger and could take Roy's punches I think if he came forward like he did against Zab Judah it would be really hard for Roy because p4p Mayweather would catch him, and Roy is not a great fighter when his back is on the ropes.

Re: Ray Robinson does beat Mayweather at WW!!!
If noone has seen SRR fight at welter, then it's all speculation. Noone can say for sure what he would do. He's by far 1 of the greatest of all time, from what we have seen. But what we have seen, Roy and Floyd would stand a good chance. Same with (puke) SRL. On paper, his record during that time was incredible, but that doesn't neccesarily mean everything. Most people discredit Marciano, even though he was undefeated.
I'm not trying at all to discredit SRR, but there is an aura of invincibility, almost like a myth, that sways alot of opinions.
Now, above ww, I'd say Roy would beat him. But thats just my opinion.
