No it was other way around Jones didn't wana fight Benn after he see what happened to his friend Gerald and Eubank didn't want no part of Jones.
i know that RJ ducked Collins for a lomg time.
anyone give any of them a chance with RJJ?
Nope not really only a punchers chance but thats about it.Quote:

I believe that Eubank went on record stating that he wanted no part of Roy Jones after roy had moved on..
I assume that roy had moved on by the time collins was up there and in the mix.. That or it just didnt come off...
But if i was certain about any of the above its benn..
Roy was under alot of criticism for not taking the big enough fights..This even after beating james Toney aswell.. He kept saying nobody wanted the fights..
Hbo even took over and started negotiations on behalf of roy with several fighters that were big names..Some who had never even had million dollar purses who still turned down the fight!
Nigel Benn was one of the fighters at that time that turned hbo down for the fight..
Then later on Benn had a rematch with Thulani (Sugar boy) Malinga..Who had lost to both roy and nigel at the time..And had taken Eubank to the limit in a sd loss..
And as we all know what should have been a formallity for nigel to beat Sugar boy ended up in nigel loosing and not earning his shot at roy jones..
So .. I guess they did chase..But none came together..
Eubank thought it was too big a risk (it didn't take Einstein to see that Jones was good)
Benn was holding out for $25mill
Benn at his best takes Jones - six rounds with Benn is too many rounds for Jones to escapeQuote:

RJJ WINS AGAINEST ANY OF THEM BUT I LOVED BENN:)
Eubank states in his book he was scared of Roy Jones
What I heard about the proposed Benn Jones fight is that Jones didn't want it since he was a mate of geralds, and he didn't want the fight to be seen as some kind of revenge.
About Eubank, he has mentioned Jones in a few interviews, there was one here on saddo's a few months back, don't remember exactly what he said.
IMO Jones beats all three, but Eubank gives him a few problems.
Eubank mite have thought Jones would beat him but he would'nt be scared of him thats for sure
RJJ would have won every round against Eubank and stopped Benn IMO
after benn and mcclellan fought there's no way in hell benn would have a stood a chance against roy..not to mention before roy fought brannon there was a offer made to benn, eubank, collins and liles and all of them refused it...Quote:

i guess when you say look silly you mean the way eubank made thulani look silly with the 6 round stoppage...oh wait that way roy that did that...eubank barely won...
FACTS:
Eubank stated in his autobiography that jones jr. would have beaten him, although he said he would have put up a tremendous struggle.
Benn's trainer/friend Ambrose Mendy has been quoted many times saying that they were chasing a fight with jones for a pay day and that he did not think Benn had a hope in hell against jones.
Collins would have been little more than a glorofied heavy bag for jones. Not disrespecting the man: I'm Irish too so i look upto him, but Jones would have demolished.
Both Eubank and Benn were confronted by James Toney on live Television...Both expressed interest in fighting Toney, nothing materialised did it?
P.S. Gerald McClellan is one of my favourite boxers of all time. Him and Jones were acquaintances not friends!!! Gerald wanted to fight Jones desperately as he felt he could knock him out!!!
this funny to me...most will say "roy would have beaten all of them" then say "roy was the one ducking them"....
I think Eubank would have been destroyed, He is too much of a pot shotting in and out guy , Jones would get too much time to think, and he is too quick to be fought like that, you can't in and out vs Jones cause he counters too fast,
the only way to beat Jones is imo how Glen JOhnson did it, pressure pressure pressure, which is why i think Eubank loses and Benn has a chance.
prime jones had too much power, speed and quickness guranteed he would have hurt benn badly enough for him to slow down..a body shot probably...Quote:

NIGEL has a slim punchers chance (very slim actualy), and EUBANK might scrape the first couple rounds but would lose the rest by being out worked once ROY measures him up, however EUBANK would make ROY look bad no question about that (who didnt CHRIS made look bad ?)
thulani maligni..the same guy that roy stopped...Quote:

Had you grown up on Eubank and Naz and Tyson though your opinions could be different
Not really i did watch alot of Naz when i was younger never liked him or Eubank or Tyson theres some boxers you just don't like and others you do like its personal preference and it doesn't matter when your born.Quote:

Its fine got no problem with it.
It's a good point. I have a theory:
We all always rate the people whose peak we saw when we were in our formative or adolescent years. I mean this in a visceral sense (as we all also admire people who we intellectually know were great fighters before or after our time, but not in the same gut-led way. For example, I think Jack Dempsey and Felix Trinidad are really great fighters, but they don't excite me as much as Mike Tyson or Nigel Benn because I grew up watching them in their peak)
I think this is because young males (particularly) see and look up to someone slightly older than them. The person cannot be too much older, ie they have to be the same generation, but are usually a bit older.
The same young males find it difficult to accept that their idol is later over the hill and old, as it reminds them of their own ageing and mortality. Hence, the attutide "it was better in my day...... these young guys are crap nowadays" etc etc etc.
I can usually guess how old any poster is on this site by listening to who they say are their boxing idols.
Any thoughts (I think maybe this was what was being said, rather than anyone having a go at you for being a sprog Ice (?) ;D
Good point X well put and by the way :coolclick: for that last part that made me chuckle ;D
Calm down madam ;DQuote:

Malinga lasted 12 with benn but was ko'd by jones.. That says something about roys power..
And i fail to see how benn catches up with roy in 15 rounds ..Let alone 6 or under
I dont regard nigel as having the greatest of chins anyway.. It wasnt bad..But he could be hurt..
Considering roy had an awesome defense..He would outbox Nigel and probably stop him late..
Benn turned the fight down after the mclellan fight.. I believe roy was actually chasing benn more then he was chasing roy after that fight.. Nigel wasnt the same fighter after that anyway..Quote:

I think that Calzaghe would hav a better chance than any of them against RJJ as SMW, you cant say his style wouldnt give roy problems????
Calzaghes a chump
I dont see how it would give roy problems..Quote:
