I say Tyson would have dominated the FIRST UFC
I say that if Mike Tyson had entered the very first UFC up to about the 8th or 10th, he would have whipped ass left and right. I do not think either Ken Shamrock, Dan Severen or Royce Gracie could have beaten him, and had he connected solid against any of them, he very well might have literally killed them.

Re: I say Tyson would have dominated the FIRST UFC
I don't think you'll find to much argument to that one. I think the only person with a shot was Gracie, but he was to small, I don't think he would get Tyson to the ground either. Tyson would definitely have won imo.

CC or CC in 24 hours. I also would give Bruce Lee a great chance to win the first UFC as well.

Re: I say Tyson would have dominated the FIRST UFC
Unless they could get him on the ground then yes he would win easy.

See I don't think anyone in the first few UFC's was good enuff to get him on the ground. Ken Shamrock was the biggest and strongest one, along with Kimo later on, and neither would have been able to take Tyson down without being pummelled IMO.

didnt i read somewhere that tyson signed for K1??

Maybe...he signed with Pride, but nothing came of it. He's too old and shot now to be competitive in either though.

He's too shot to be competitive in ANYTHING anymore. I wouldn't even give him a shot at a pro am golf event.

Re: I say Tyson would have dominated the FIRST UFC
Time magazine once wrote in 1989 that Mike Tyson's power was the same as putting a phone book at your face and having it struck with a baseball bat by a prop baseball player. i don't know if that was true but I would never would want to find out. I think he would have pretty much Murdered everyone in the first ufc's. Too much power and Speed.

Re: I say Tyson would have dominated the FIRST UFC
if we are talking about a cross trained Tyson then I'd give him a chance, but as is I'd feel pretty certain that Severn or Shamrock would be able to get the takedown.

I figure both would be too intimidated and Tyson would be too strong for them to get down.
-
Re: I say Tyson would have dominated the FIRST UFC
first of all Shamrock was an accomplished Pancrase champ well before the UFC I dont see him or Severn being intimidatd by anybody...secondly I dont think Tyson has any huge strength advantage if any over a seasoned grappler, and lastly takedowns are just as much about technique as strength....My experience is that pound for pound top wrestlers are some of the strongest atheletes I've ever encountered....Male Gymnasts at NCAA and Olympic level are studs as well.

Right...so you would favor a male gymnast over Mike Tyson? Or do just have a thing for male gymnasts? ;D
For real though, Pancrase is all well and good but they allow NO striking, cept for slapping. Thats really gonna prepare a guy to fight Mike Tyson isn't it? Come on. Tyson would have destroyed anyone the first few UFC's IMO.

Re: I say Tyson would have dominated the FIRST UFC
You got me Hulk, gymnasts make me hot. ::** I just think you underestimate top wrestlers overall strength and their technique. I mentioned Ken's experience in Pancrase only b/c he was an accomplished fighter and wouldn't be intimidated....Do you really think just boxing prepares someone for a MMA fight? I wouldn't count Mike out in the first UFC but I wouldn't be ready to just hand it to him either.

Thats fair. But I would pick Tyson without hesitation back then.

I used to wrestle in highschool. They are the strongest pound for pound. Gives you one hell of a neck too.

Re: I say Tyson would have dominated the FIRST UFC
If you watched the first UFCs Gracie had a crazy shot that could take down just about anybody even Tysons size and once on the ground Royce would have him wrapped up

Re: I say Tyson would have dominated the FIRST UFC
*sigh*
Still think tyson would have been subbed into oblivion in the first UFC by Monsieur Gracie

Re: I say Tyson would have dominated the FIRST UFC
I wrestled in high school and boxed in the Army, and I say Severn, Shamrock or Gracie would have beaten Tyson in the first 3 minutes.
Unless they tried to stand up with him, of course.
-
Re: I say Tyson would have dominated the FIRST UFC
I actually think that Tyson would have had a really good chance of winning UFC 1. He's stocky and looks like he'd be hard to take down. If you think Tyson hits hard with 12 oz. boxing gloves I'd love to see the damage he'd do with no gloves.
Gracie's hardest win before retiring from the UFC was against Kimo, simply because of his strenth, and the only reason he won is because of all the hair pulling he did. Another what if situation, but damn wouldn't it be fun to watch. :lickish:

How would they shoot in and try to take him down without eating either hand. Just a glancing shot from him could knock a man out cold. A flush one could possibly kill a man.

Re: I say Tyson would have dominated the FIRST UFC
I agree. Mike Tyson would have completely destroyed any and every opponent in the original UFC's.
He'd probably lay waste to practically all the upstart UFC fighters today barring the top guys we see on TV now who are well versed in takedowns and massively outsize him.

Man old Brucie would have gone lights out against a world class pro kickboxer, MMA or boxer no doubt. He'd be hard pressed to beat any world class amateur or serious pro.
I'm talking lb for lb here too!

Re: I say Tyson would have dominated the FIRST UFC
If Royce got a hold of him he would have gotten tapped out just like all the other guys with no grappling experience.

It's an oddball question/statement, I'd never think to ask and I agree with you.
They were like lambs going to slaughter, with no idea what they were getting into.
