Calzaghe v Kessler In Denmark September
Joe Calzaghe has agreed to fight fellow super middleweight Mikkel Kessler in Denmark in September, his manager Frank Warren has told BBC Radio Five Live.
"Mogens Palle (Kessler's promoter) made an offer for Joe to fight Kessler in Denmark in September. We've accepted and are awaiting a contract," he said.

Re: Calzaghe v Kessler In Denmark September
That is such good news you had to tell us twice!
Fookin come on! Now Calzaghe has a great chance to cement his legacy! If he picks his remaining 3 opponents carefully and puts his money where his mouth is...he's got a great chance of HOF!
Kessler - Taylor - Chad Dawson.
1) Prove he is the best supermiddle in the world
2) Beat the best middle in the world
3) Beat IMO the best light heavy in the world and in the process become a 2 weight world champ.
No one can question him then!
-
Re: Calzaghe v Kessler In Denmark September
I don't think Dawson will be fully established enough to draw the money and fame Calzaghe wants. While he is over 40, beating B-Hop...or Winky, would cement the legacy more because they are big names of Calzaghe's era.
If he beats Kessler, I hope he gets Taylor because he wants it so badly.
-
Re: Calzaghe v Kessler In Denmark September
He ain't going to beat Kessler and anyway i still don't believe it yet
-
Re: Calzaghe v Kessler In Denmark September
If Dawson beat Ruiz then he takes his record to 24-0 having beaten Adamek and IMO establishes himself as the best lightheavy at the moment! By beating Dawson he is beating a future star who people will remember as a possible opponent for Calzaghe when he is around.
In a perfect world I would like to see him fight the winner of Winky - BHop as well. That fight along with Kessler, Taylor and Dawson (who would have established himself by then) would be an awesome end to Calzaghe's career and means he would be a definate HOF!
-
Re: Calzaghe v Kessler In Denmark September
I am so excited I just ran into a door while trying to get my mobile phone to call my mates!!!
I knew it would have to be Kessler of Taylor, and if Palle doesn't find a way of squirming off this hook he's found himself on, then we got us a fight, and I got me one mental weekend of partying in Copenhagen in September.
This is also on Frank's website, so it isn't just another rumour or a smokescreen. I have faith in our boy Calzaghe to bring home some fine danish bacon that night, but at least it'll stop the accusations of who's ducking who. But I guess that'll be Taylor spouting that trash now.

Re: Calzaghe v Kessler In Denmark September
Just because Warren is saying it on his site and giving radio interviews does'nt mean he is'nt lieing 8)

Yea but he beat Lacy who was "a future star"...and now people just say Lacy was overrated. They would say the same about Dawson.

Re: Calzaghe v Kessler In Denmark September
Ill believe it when I see it but I really hope this comes together, forget about Taylor though this and then maybe Carl Froch are the only fights worth making.

There must be something really horrible in your past that has turned you against Calzaghe...even when they say they accept Palle's offer you're hitting out at them.
I've got a £5 each-way bet on you either being the illegitimate son of Frank Warren or Joe Calzaghe.

True...people are fickle!!! But the point here is that Calzaghe has dominated a division for over a decade! If he beats Kessler no one can dispute that. The point of beating Dawson is he then beats the best in the Lightheavy division IMO and therefore becomes a 2 weight champion. By the time Calzaghe has fought Kessler, Taylor and the winner of Winky-BHop - Dawson will have established himself if he continues as he is!
Two weight world champion. Wouldn't look bad on the record!

Well judging by current talk, maybe Dawson will have beaten Tarver by then, he was the division's previous ruler and someone Joe had previously wanted. So, should Dawson win that, then anyone who called Dawson overrated if Joe beat him would be taking out of their arse.

Warren (like him or not is THE master negotiator) has totally called Kesslers bluff here by offering to fight in Denmark.
let's see just how Big the Danes balls REALLY are ;)
99% sure this will happen but Joe and Frank have done their bit so the balls in the kessler court now and only he can stop this happening. :)

I would agree......I don't think he will beat Kessler but if he does I will hop on the Joe C bandwagon without protest...Do I think Joe C is a good fighter, Yes...a good champ? No....you have to unify for that....20 title defences and only 1 title?....that's bogus....but to add more titles now...that would put him up there bigtime!

Re: Calzaghe v Kessler In Denmark September
Joe will box his head off in his own back yard, bigger, stronger, faster and more skilled,oh and he's a slick, slick southpaw.
Kessler has no chance at all :) Probably go the full 12 but Kessler will look like he's been hit by a f*cking truck by the 10th.

2 titles man. He won Lacy's IBF title but was made to vacate coz the IBF are tossers.

He had to fight the mandatory after the Bika fight. Instead he chose to fight the "world class" Peter Manfredo.
I don't agree with IBF's mandatories in many cases. The way they rate boxers is a shambles and out of the 4 paper titles, they're the one I have least respect for. (in other words, my comment was a pop at the IBF, rather than a defence of Joe)

Re: Calzaghe v Kessler In Denmark September
Heres the official statement from Frank Warrens website
Promoter Frank Warren says Joe Calzaghe will go to Denmark and fight Mikkel Kessler.
Earlier this week, Warren agreed to an offer made by Kessler's promoter, Mogens Palle, but has so far heard nothing back from the Dane.
"It's not a done deal until it's signed but we've accepted," Warren told BBC Five Live. "It's now up to Palle to send a contract."
Long term WBO super-middleweight king Calzaghe has been linked to a fight with his WBC/WBA counterpart following victory over Peter Manfredo Jr in April.
Both fighters - neither of whom have tasted defeat before - were keen to secure home advantage, but Calzaghe is so confident of victory, he is prepared to sacrifice a partisan crowd.
"Joe doesn't mind fighting in Denmark," said Warren. "He feels he will beat Kessler anywhere and I believe that's the case as well.
"It's a great fight. It's the two best super middleweights in the world. It's probably one of the most competitive fights at the moment in boxing.
"I just hope that Palle backs up his offer. We sent him an e-mail on Tuesday along with a fax confirming what the terms were and we've not heard from him since.
"I'm hoping it's not all nonsense. He's been talking a lot about fighting Joe with Kessler and we've called his bluff. I don't believe he ever thought that Joe would go to Denmark."
