BOXING EXPERTS ON ROY JONES (for mayweather sr)
this is a anwer to mayweather sr who said
"You know, Roy to me was never an exceptional fighter" well here are other people talking about roy jones.
After lost the World Boxing Council light heavyweight crown to Jones in a 1996 unanimous decision, Mike McCallum called Jones ``the greatest fighter of all time.
Boxing magazine's editor, Bert Sugar, is provided on Jones' website: ``He possesses the fastest hands in boxing with lightning fast moves and explosive power in both hands.'`
Ross Greenburg, executive producer of HBO Sports, was quoted in a Sports Illustrated feature, he and the other HBO commentators ``were there for Leonard and Hagler and Hearns and Duran in their prime. I think Roy Jones gets in a ring and beats them all. I've never seen that kind of punching power and speed in one man.'`
"he doesn't need a jab" - george foreman
"never before have i ever heard you say about a fighter , he doesn't need a jab" - jim lampley
"and you'll never hear me say it again" - george foreman.
In 1996, High Frequency Boxing's John DiMaio wrote ``The early evidence points toward the real possibility that Jones is the greatest talent this sport has ever seen. His skill so dwarfs that of his nearest ranked opposition...that providing competitive opponents is a more challenging dilemma than the fights themselves.'`
Olympic team coach Alton Merkerson, whom Jones hired in the early 1990's as his trainer, said in Sports Illustrated, ``Roy's not only got the quickest hands in boxing, but the quickest mind.'`

CC. You're DAMN right! There has NEVER been anyone like Roy Jones, not even close.
ROY JONES JR.
IN A CLASS BY HIMSELF.

Re: BOXING EXPERTS ON ROY JONES (for mayweather sr)
Roy Jones was a great fighter, especially in his prime.
But he was not the greatest fighter of all-time in his prime. Not even close. Unless you've never watched a fight before 1994.

Why? Just intrigued. Who could have beat a prime Jones?

Re: BOXING EXPERTS ON ROY JONES (for mayweather sr)
I truely believe if Jones had fought 50 years earlier, fought the exact same opposition, and had an identical career - move for move, win for win - that he had, he would be considered the undisputed #1 P4P instead of Sugar Ray Robinson. As much as the haters will bash him and say he never fought no one (which is rediculous), Roy was in another dimension. He knew what guys were going to do before they did. If you were timid, he'd pot shot you to death. If you put the pressure on him, he'd destroy you with quick counters and make you miss. Unlike a lot of other ring virtuoso's, like Pernell who I am also a huge fan of, Roy had some big power in those hands when he chose to use it.
There'll never be another Roy Jones. Guys who got in the ring with him know better than us.
Floyd Sr is full of shit, just like his brother Roger.

Ray Robinson at 147 and Ali between '64 and '67 (pre-exile) are two fighters right off the bat that are superior to Jones.

c'mon game..truth be told a prime roy easily beats any fighter of any era..even the so called great heavyweights before they became to big like lennox...roy would have beaten all of them...marciano, lewis, etc...yeah and even SRR

Re: BOXING EXPERTS ON ROY JONES (for mayweather sr)
we are talking pound for pound jones was a beast. he would have had power like robinson if they were the same weight. roy has more power because of the weight diffence. but we are talking p4p. so i would say they would be about the same.
i see jones landing big shots through out the fight. weather robinson could last the full 15rds i dont know. i could see jones wining at least 9rds
i think ali would have been alot closer. but jones would have a hugh edge in power and they would be about same in speed. ali would have never seen some one with skill like roy and to go with that power.
i pick roy to come through it and win a close fight.
i feel ali would have one a close fight agasint robinson.
dont hold people on pedistools
its not goods. say what u see.

Re: BOXING EXPERTS ON ROY JONES (for mayweather sr)
if roy was replaced with robinson
jones would be called the greatest of all time.

ali? roy beats him..the roy that fought ruiz would beat any version of ali..he was hit by too many left hooks even in his prime...

Re: BOXING EXPERTS ON ROY JONES (for mayweather sr)
Jones in his prime would have been a handful for anyone make no mistake . I would favor Roy in his prime vs anyone at his weight.. sure he may not win, but Jones would be my pick leading in .

Re: BOXING EXPERTS ON ROY JONES (for mayweather sr)
Who the FUCK is Floyd Sr. to criticise Roy Jones Jr. any way?
Hell I wouldn't care if his son criticisized Roy, Floyd Jr. isn't even half the talent or phenom that Roy Jones Jr. was in his prime.

Re: BOXING EXPERTS ON ROY JONES (for mayweather sr)
First off...i find it hilarious that people get so fired up about comments that ANYONE in the Mayweather clan makes. It is obvious they are attention seekers...so people need to take whatever they say with a grain of salt. As far as Roy goes...he was physical beast...a fighter so athletically gifted that he was able to get away with his unorthodox style. But he would never beat Ali. He actually had no business going to heavyweight. His one fight at that division was against an absolute stiff in Ruiz...which is is the ONLY reason he risked going up that high. He would never have been stupid enough to fight a formidable opponent at that weight and in retrospect going up that high and than coming back down probably sped up his decline. So for anyone to even entertain the idea of Roy beating Ali is beyond ludicrous.

Re: BOXING EXPERTS ON ROY JONES (for mayweather sr)
Roy Jones Jr is the only boxer GREAT enough for me to watch fight from my LEXUS and miss my business meetings! :-*

Re: BOXING EXPERTS ON ROY JONES (for mayweather sr)

Doug Jones arguably beat a young Ali, I say so could Roy Jones.

Re: BOXING EXPERTS ON ROY JONES (for mayweather sr)
Now this isnt first hand information, a friend told me, but he is the biggest jones fan out there. Im sayin this guy waited up past 3am every time jone fought. He bought every PPV containing jones EVERYTING after the Olympics...
Anyways he says that Jones was held back from fighting buster douglas because his father and management thought it was a bridge too far...Now i dont mean to offend...but if buster was a bridge too far then Ali is out of the question.
And anyways, why bother mixing eras put jones against the best heavyweight of the time (Lewis/Tyson) would he have won? hmmm...No!

Re: BOXING EXPERTS ON ROY JONES (for mayweather sr)
I'm a huge RJJ fan - but I think it's a stretch to call him the best ever. To say that he could have held his own against some of the all-time greats is no stretch, though. I'll go that far out on a limb ;)

Re: BOXING EXPERTS ON ROY JONES (for mayweather sr)
the very fact that people only try to decide how great roy is..is by hypothetically putting him against the greatest heavyweights of all time in itself says how great he was....because he started at jr middle...
because any fighter in the history of boxing @ 175 or below gets beat by prime roy jones....which makes him P4P best

At 168 and 175 i think he would beat anyone at those weights at Middleweight umm not so sure you have Gerald and few others i think Gerald would have good chance at Jones aswell but like i said imo 168 and 175 he beats anyone at those weights.
