I say Marvin. Him and Ray Robinson had the best.
I'm just wondering if Pavlik 20 years down the road will be in that category. He took Miranda's best shots unphased.
As huge a Toney fan as I am, I don't know if I've ever seen Hagler as stunned as Toney was versus Reggie Johnson. Not saying he was out on his feet by any means but he was definitely stunned. The Roy Jones knockdown was BS but the Johnson one wasn't. Didn't Hagler get dropped a couple times by somebody earlier in his career, I haven't seen that many of his earlier fights so I'm not sure.
Either way, both all time great chins. I'm not sure how many more interesting mythical matchups I could think of then Hagler-Toney, that would be incredible especially with their styles
unpahes is a massive over statment imo... palivk was fucking rtpcked more than once in that fight... it was down to the fact his punches tok such a tole on miranda in the early rounds that palivk himself didn't go downQuote:

i think it was posted in the MMA section,a chin is often as good a a fighter defence... it owuld take it further and add fitness...
its not so much the chin that counts in flashknock downs, more of the condition and terms of the kncok down, a great condition fighter can take great hits, whislt a fighter taking an unxpected hit will god down..
Take they knockdown of toney v RJJ... toney was ebign cocky he took a hit whislt his body was toaly relaxed... when a fighter is able to see a punch coing their upper body is tense, thier neck and soulder are tense waiting to absorb the punch there for the chin isn't the main factor...
peopletalk about toney having a grwta chin, whislt he does boast a great record, i think thatsmainky down to his skill... he hardly got fucking hit on it lol or always had the skill tostop a guy landing the ounch that took him down
I think the RJJ one was more about being off balanced and Jones pushed him too.Quote:

And I think Toney showed his chin later at heavyweight when he was getting hit more.
Were did he look hurt . After he took three on the chin which way did he go. Strait forward. He wasnt hurt.Quote:

But for going the distance TWICE with dynamite fisted HW Sam Peter and surviving some real bombs from him, I gotta give the nod to old hardheaded James. Hearns and Mugabi could punch with the best of em, but you can't compare 160lb punchers with a 240lb puncher like Peters.
James Toney... lets see Hagler take Peter's punch.
Toney has fought opponents that weighed as little as 155 pounds, and as much as 257 pounds. That's a 102 pound gap. And he maintained his ability to take a punch throughout all those weight classes.
I'd have to rank his chin above Hagler, who never went above middleweight.
Could Hagler Take shots from a 240 Sam Peter??? I think its a toss up quite Honestly.... George Chuvalo to me wasnt even Human.. Foreman beat the living piss out of him and never even blinked
i ee where your coming from ate..Quote:

I reckon a middleweight Hagler could kill a sam peter anyday
They both had great chins but i edged with Hagler
This is not even a question. Hagler had the greatest chin in the history of the sport.
toney can take heavyweight punches. he has the better chin
I think James had the better defense, but Marvin has the better chin. The punch Hearns hit Marvin with in round one just seconds into the round should have knocked Marvin out cold, instead it broke Hearns hand. Both Hearns and Mugabi said the exact same thing.. Almost word for word. Marvin has a hard head.
Julio Cesar Chavez had a great chin also.Quote:

Also, Toney fought Peter at well over 200+ pounds himself, so all that extra fat.....er.... muscle undoubtedly helped him absorb Peter's punches as well. Finally, Peter was, and still is sort of a raw talent, who still needs to learn to make the most out of his punching power.
On the other hand......... Hearns was one of the most feared punchers in boxing history. The punches he landed on Hagler could've knocked out a small elephant, not to mention any fighter on the planet.
I voted for Hagler.
In Haglers era Duran may have been hands of stone but Hagler had a stone head. Honestly i think Marvin couldve taken heavyweight unches 2.
Why did Hearns buckle his knees in their fight then? There are fighters who have never been hurt ala Tua.Quote:

Haglers knees dipped a little bit at the start of the 1st round against Hearns then his head clears ands doesnt get hurt again as for Tua Lennox hurt him a few times and Rahman hurt him pretty bad right at the end of there rematch also for the record Felix Savon stopped him in amatuersQuote:

Marvin never had to take THOSE kind of shots.
James has the better chin
But Hagler never fought at Heavyweight so how do we know he could,nt take themQuote:

Very true he didn't. SO how can we assume. We've seen James take them, and Hagler never had to, so James has a better chin by what's been seen. We could speculate all day, but from what we've 'seen', James has a better chin.
I also think that when a guy who is champ like Hagler - goes in throwing punches, it is alot easier to be hurt than if he fights defensively like Tua. Hagler was throwing bombs at Hearns and Hearns started to unleash and caught Hagler when Hagler was in the middle of throwing his punches. I remember the Tua fight as a fight where Tua sort of was in a defensive shell. Being in that defensive shell he knew that either he stay there or Lennox would have knocked him out. If Lennox didn't punch hard Tua would have punched more. But Tua didn't want to be knocked out.Quote:
