What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
Honestly the more I think about it, no one certain thing about Taylor really jumps out at me.
He's fast but he's not extraordinarily fast.
He looks like he'd be a big puncher but his power seems like a big question mark to me, how many people has he ever really knocked out? Daniel Edouard but who else, and I don't mean his first five or ten fights against absolute no hopers. Alex Bunema wasn't even a true knockout and it took awhile to even do that. Couldn't stop Joppy although to be fair Joppy didn't really want to fight. Now its no shame to not knockout Hopkins or Wright but he didn't seem to be able to even faze two small jr. middleweights in his last two times out, guys that have been badly hurt before.
He's by no means a crude brawler but he's not an extraordinarily skilled guy, he still makes a lot of mistakes and can be very very wild at times.
I think his stamina is still a question mark.
He hasn't really fought any huge punchers- in fact his management seems to have been clearly avoiding them although that could change if they take the Pavlik fight-so its hard to tell how good his chin is. Bernard's not Gerald McClellan but he can clearly punch with the right hand but he was so gunshy in those fights and even then he did hurt Taylor.
But even with all that said, even if you think he lost the Hopkins and Wright fights, and I clearly thought he lost the Wright one, you can't ignore the fact that he was very competitive with two great fighters. So obviously he's got things going for him. So what do people think his biggest strength is, his size, speed, skill, something else maybe?

His lazer jab was but that seems to have been abandoned lately i don't know why ??

Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
taylors best asst has been luck imo..,
dont get me wrong the kid as fucking skills... yet he is to lazy to really put them into ture content!
he has a great jab,a good chin good footwork... but looking at his biggest win v hopkins, he 'beat' a guy who would only fight 1 min of a 3 minute round... taylor will notcomite him self... if he did he would of beaten winky without to much trouble.. te bullshit "i spent to much" in the ouma fight after 4 fucking rounds would not of happened and the spinks fight would of been easy for him...
make no istake taylor can box, but he needs to get his ass into gear and prove it

even still I'm not sure he's an incredibly skilled fighter, that right hand is telegraphed all to hell and I'm not totally sure he has a good chin, I think that's still debatable.
I guess it would be his jab like Ice Cold said but he hasn't really been using it. He's also extraordinary at getting Jim Lampley to say "big right hand from Taylor" even when it lands on the other guy's gloves or shoulder, or not at all.

i know im surin alot of words tat the forum **** out lol (mainly coz i been hitting the rum tonight ;D) im not syaing taylor has incredible skill but he has skills, you don't get a gold medal for being a less than skillfull fighter...
hopkins may not be a p4p big hitter, but he could bang and bang hard, in the end of both their fights he did take some big hits ut they never looked to hurt him
wakco and taeth are prolly th best two to prove me wrong and this as they know hopkins bette than me, but i think taylor has a very sturd chin imo

basically I agree, he seems to be pretty good at a lot of things to me. He's pretty skilled, he's fast, but I can't think of anything he's extraordinary at. He's not one of those guys that are just amazingly skilled, he's not in that highest level of speed guys, his power is questionable.
Hopkins can punch, he's not a huge puncher but he can punch. I don't think Taylor has a glass jaw by any means but I think its open to debate how good his chin is.

Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
Trainer and Management to keep him away from Punchers
-
Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
Throws punches that sting. Too lazy or stupid to adjust strategy during a match.
-
Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
Great jab. More people would know about his jab if he ever threw the damn thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
Aside from his jab, there's not a lot of things Taylor does that are extraordinary, but he does a lot of things very well (that sounded like something Teddy Atlas says a lot). He's a well rounded fighter that is good in all areas, not great, but he doesn't really do anything poorly either.
However, his best assest is being able to exude enough charm on the judges that they give him fights he didn't actually win (again, I think I might be parroting again, I think Wacko posted something similar in another thread).

Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
Yes Taylors best assets are definatly the 3 judges who no matter wot his oponant does they score the round for Jermane :)

Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?

Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
Nothing really. He has no major flaws or skills.....he is very average all round but it seems to have worked for him.
-
Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
His best asset is probably his physical stature.
-
Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
Jermain Taylor bores me to death i hope palvic or somebody knocks him off the thrown.

Taylor hasn't got a gold medal!
He's just not that good. To be honest ANY strong, tough, hard working, big middleweight with good fundamentals could be world champion right now. B Hop and Winky are FAR from unbeatable, I'd fancy Pavlik to beat both of them, Froch to beat both of them, Mundine to beat both of them etc.
Taylor is the only big, young middleweight either of them has faced. Guys like Eastman, Soliman, Quartey etc are hardly real middleweight contenders.

Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
He is a very good athlete. His jab was one of the best in the business until he recently abandoned it. It's strange...i give him props for fighting Hopkins and Wright...but i think those fights, along with Spinks, threw off his style. He just seems like a fighter searching for a comfort zone again. And it doesn't help fighting guys like Spinks, Hopkins, and Wright. I think the best thing for him right now is to fight an aggressive brawler...like a Miranda...someone who will bring the fight to him and force him to come out of his shell and show some fire. I think it's a bit early to think he cannot regain his early potential...but he definitely needs to step up. First thing is for him and his team need to find a good opponent that will let him showcase his talent and be an exciting match up.

Thing is Ouma fit that bill pretty well..

I think you're right on the money....His jab has the POTENTIAL to be great.....but he uses it way to infrequently...

Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
Personally...I think that Taylor has learned to do just enough to win.
He's got a great jab & loads of skills...but he's learned that with HBO behind him he'll be bankable...no matter what or how little he does.

Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
Jermain Taylor's best asset is him being a BIG middleweight.
-
Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
...the jab when he uses it
-
Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?

Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
His best asset is his ability to fight to the level of his opposition
-
Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
His jab is a thing of beauty fast and strong, i think he could beat just about any middle/super middle weight if he applies him self and uses his JAB kindda like ali.
I still dont know why fighters with a great jab neglect to use it like JT and ODLH, u would think that with the level there on they would learn to use there best asset
-
Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
None of the above. I chose his bank account . Really thats the only thing he is really working on.
-
Re: What is Jermain Taylor's best asset?
His best asset is his home own advantage

An asset that he never uses. See his last 4 fights.
