after the beating he's taken he should retire...i agree that he was rushed into the big fight with tito he wasn't ready but nevertheless he would have been beaten any..but tito is the one that really ruined him...much like he ruined mayorga and joppy

Re: Vargas to retire in sept..
He'll retire AFTER Mayorga runs wild all over his ass. Mayorga gonna Knock him the FUCK out!!!!
-
Re: Vargas to retire in sept..
I though the guy already gave up boxing and seriously persuing acting business.
He's kinda cool in Alpha Dog.
-
Re: Vargas to retire in sept..
vargas is still relitave ypong, he needs time off to think things out, i dout they we will never see him again after the mayorga fight, he has the skills to be a champion, but he needs to get the mental side of boxing down,

Re: Vargas to retire in sept..
We should do a sweepstake if he retires...........
12 months from his last fight, who will be fatter Vargas or Duran?
It will be close I'll say that much

I heard that Justin Timberlake acted like a real bitch in that movie, perfect role for him.
And chosenone, I don't think Vargas has it physically anymore. His back is messed up, he's almost shot from all the ring wars, and he's just not as quick on his feet as he once was. I don't think he can be a real champ anymore.

Re: Vargas to retire in sept..
I'd say he should get out now... if it wasn't for the Mayorga fight cause that's a fight I really wanna see. It will be fun the whole way.

I'm gonna have to go see that fight live I think. Ricardo Mayorga is the man.

Re: Vargas to retire in sept..
It would be much better if Vargas just retired right now.

Re: Vargas to retire in sept..
Vargas lost just about all the big fights he was in , over rated for sure , i think Quartey even beat him :)

Re: Vargas to retire in sept..
one of the most overrated guys in boxing ever is Mayorga. He beat Vernon Forrest but then who did he beat after? Spinks beat him and Spinks is seen as good but not exceptional. Mayorga has diminished since his fights with Tito and Oscar, and even then he was not that great. I think Vargas has a good chance to beat him.

I agree with you. I feel it is time for Vargas to retire. After all punishment that Trinidad gave him he was not the same. Actually, I have to say that David Reed never was the same after fighting Trinidad at 154. Did you watch Vargas come back fight after Trinidad with Wilfredo Rivera. Rivera is a boxer from Puerto Rico who made the fight of his life with with Pernell in their first fight and stolen by the judges of waht seemed a victory for Rivera, but he was also declining badly after fighting De La Hoya and Mosley (lost both by TKO). Rivera did not have a KO punch and reached Vargas with a straight right hand that sent him KO'd to the canvas. I think that the person who was more surprised was the same Rivera who connected and hurt Vargas, but did not attack a totally KO Vargas and allowing him to recover and eventually win by TKO. Just watching how Rivera could hurt Vargas there was a lot to think. Definitely Trinidad crushed his career.

Don't be an idiot. Mayorga was the first to KO Andrew "six heads" Lewis and take his belt. Then he knocked out Vernon Forrest, and beat him again in the rematch, proving it was no fluke. Then he took on Spinks and fuking beat him too, but got robbed big time on the cards. He pressed the fight much much more than Jermain Taylor did and for sure deserved to keep his titles. After that he defeated the man who Spinks lost to then beat for his title at welterweight, Michelle Picarilo, and he dropped him three fukin times and whipped his ass for the WBC. Jr. MW title. In between that he went to war with Tito Trinidad and got his ass knocked out. Finally he lost to Oscar in an embarassing ass whippin. Overall I'd say he is a pretty damn good fighter losing only to the VERY best in the world, and at weight classes he did not belong in.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with Hulk. First off, I think the word "overrated" is thrown around way too much in boxing. It's easy for us fans to sit back and criticize and call boxers overrated after they've had a few defeats. But we don't look at the big picture and see what they've accomplished in their career. Mayorga may be a lot of things, but IMO he was definitely not overrated.

Re: Vargas to retire in sept..
Mayorga is/was the MAN! Both guys have seen better days but I like Mayorga to win this fight.
Vargas made me a fan in his Tito fight..can't help but think if he waited a couple more years before stepping. At 29 he's definitely older than his age.
It's really the perfect fight for them...both proud guys that only lost to the best and there's no shame in that.
Both have taken beatings but i think mayorga is better for the wear..vargas gained around 75 lbs of fat after the second mosley fight within 6 months...

He's one out of shape mofo.

CC. Mayorga is STILL a bad man. He's proven to be a warrior in the past in will kick Vargas's ass. Vargas already has one foot out the door talking like this.

Re: Vargas to retire in sept..
I'd like to see Vargas win, but who knows if either fighter will be in shape, and who's chin has degraded worse. Someone will be KOd in this fight, if not, they both should retire.
-
Re: Vargas to retire in sept..
Vargas will ko Mayorga then retire thats good because he is finished at world title level now
-
Re: Vargas to retire in sept..
The winner of this bout will NOT retire yet.

He lost to Spinks and lost to Oscar and lost to Tito.. Best fight was beating Six Heads, but other than that his fights have not been really great wins. Vernon was a good style matchup where Vernon stands straight up and is vulnerable to the wild punches of Mayorga. Vernon had to back up to avoid the punches and couldn't get his own offensive going stylewise. Mayorga is another overrated guy with an exciting style and the fans love his style. That is all you can say, but Vargas can beat him if he gets in shape. Mayorga is no big deal. There was a guy in the 80s like Mayorga and his name was Juan Roldan. But Roldan hit harder than Mayorga and Roldan fought better guys and lost all of the chances he had to win a title. But those were the days when the champs were good like Hagler,Hearns,Nunn. Nowadays Roldan would have been a champion.

Stop hatin on Mayorga. This Roldan guy blew his chances...well Mayorga didn't. He's held three world titles in two weight classes. And he's gonna KO Vargas Guran Fukin Teed.
