Re: Who's worse for the sport of Boxing? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
i couldnt believe my eyes when i read an article that stated that ceo of golden boy richard shaffer actually said: arum believes we should just accept his settlement money instead of actually going to litigation, but since arum called us names we will fight him in court.
so richards gonna drag this out to court and F over us fight fans just cause arum called him names?????????
you believe this BS?
is this the elementry school playground?
wtf did oscar find richard from?

Re: Who's worse for the sport of Boxing? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
You're joking right. I'm pretty sure that you're the only person who is really down on Oscar as a promoter. Golden Boy has been fantastic for boxing in the short time they have been around, and have created some absolutely fantastic cards.

Re: Who's worse for the sport of Boxing? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
Oscar has been the only promoter really so far to say that boxing is wrong and needs to be fixed, it's about the fighters not the promoters. Now whether he has been successful in trying to make it about the fighters and not the promoters is another question, but he certainly isn't bad for the sport.
Arum and King have been around for years and the last good thing either of them did was King's middleweight tournament 5 years ago. I'm sorry but I'm more comfortable with Oscar leading the way then anyone else.
I hope that Boxing Summit thing gets off to. Also, Oscar is the only promoter to come out in support of McCain's national commission which pretty much everyone knows we need.

Oscar claimed/promised ALOT and is doing the complete opposite by Fin over us fight fans and not letting pac fight JMM, MAB, Valero, Guzman, etc etc. OSCAR makes it very CLEAR that he would rather take ARUM to court and tie up these hungry prime fighters from fighting each other than settling out of court.
arum and don king while suing each other still gave us alot of super mega fights even while still in pending litigation.
OSCAR WILL NOT!
so whats good now bro?

Re: Who's worse for the sport of Boxing? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
oh yeah and FUKKKKKKKKKKK JOHN MCCAIN's racist asssssss! anyone who calls vietnamese GOOKS in his SPEECH, in his SPEECH in front of thousands and feels its OK!
will not get any love or support from me.
-
Re: Who's worse for the sport of Boxing? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
He came from a different time, personal feelings for McCain aside, the boxing bill is just about essential. I don't agree with him on about anything, but that is a great measure for boxing.
As far as Oscar's handling of Pac, I'm pretty sure he's made offers for every single one of those guys to fight Pacquiao. So....

different time my assssss if you actually running for president of this country and you gonna call vietnamese people: GOOKS only a couple years ago in a speech! shiiiiiiiiiiit even a KLAN member knows better not to say stupid ishhhhhhh like that if they seriously trying to win.
Oscar did offer pac hella money to fight gbp stablemates but the problem is he wants nothing to do with ARUM. so he wont work with Arum PERIOD. which goes against everything he promised he would NOT DO!

Well the way things are going GBP is going to govern the boxing world. 80% of it is running smooth as GBP has no reservation of pitting his boxers against its own top notch boxers. Up to this point I have not heard the double crossing accusations generally coming out of Arum, Top Rank, and King camps. So far GBP and Sycuan Ringside Promotions of California seem to be the only ones fulfilling their promises to their boxers. Word of mouth spreads and its the old time parasite like Arum and King that are hindering the boxing scene ..... hanging on when the love is gone and the greed is on !!
As for Richard Schaefer is an top notch Swiss Financial wizard who chose to run GBP rather than a large bank. (a baby-faced former executive at Swiss bank UBS Warburg) Add ODLH marketability and everything seems to be turning to gold. And FYI do not be surprised if shortly Pac Man fights for GBP with partnership rights to Asia for combing through for tomorrows talent. So how is GBP ruining boxing? In time GBP will help diminish the ABC's of Championship belts and make champions more visible and identifable.

It's call business and Arum no longer has any leverage with the single digit number of champions and prospects he has rightsto. Arum double talks and asks that his boxers generate the larger purse despite not being belt holders. Then he blames it on GBP. GBP meanwhile has plenty of fighter to showcase on PPV,HBO and HBO Latino boxing segments. What does Arum have.......I'll tell you ..... wimpers. It is not non Pac Man fans or GBP boxers fault that Pac Man continues to make managerial blunders.

Re: Who's worse for the sport of Boxing? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
seriously tho.......... we talking STRICTLY what the FANS want to see......... and the fans are the ones getting screwed here fellas

Re: Who's worse for the sport of Boxing? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
alot fighters can lose their PRIMES and will lose their PRIMES while litigation is taking place in court for years. its truly a sad thing!
reminds me of how great ALI truly is even more so since he was ROBBED of his prime prime years :'(

IN the defense of Oscar in his fight with Floyd he didi sell it well he came to fight PBF was the one running all the damn ring ( now he felt what Tito felt) :D

Re: Who's worse for the sport of Boxing? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
GBP are not going to save boxing at all. By far the best promotional company of 2007 so far has been Top Rank whether people like Bob Arum or not.
@bestp4p Did McCain really call them Gooks? haha what a legend, I'd vote for him 8)

GBP if they do indeed end up saving boxing according to their plan it would be in our childrens generation not ours. so in the meantime it would F over us the fight fans until then!
and yes McCain really did refer to the Vietnames as Gooks in his speech a couple years ago.
in southern california all hell broke lose as the heavy populated cities such as westminster rallied up to protest his speech down there.
vietnamese americans from all over so cal gathered to prostest and taunt him wearing shirts that read: "IM an American not a GOOK!"
heads up guys u dont wanna F with Vietnamese they some crazy trigger happy mofos. go clubbin at Shark Club and u'll see what im talking about
-
Re: Who's worse for the sport of Boxing? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
McCain was a POW. He called his captors Gooks and then refused to apologize because he said he was talking about his captors and would never offer them any sort of an apology. Pretty dumb but understandable imo.

Re: Who's worse for the sport of Boxing? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
No. But if a white guy captured a black guy and abused him, even if it's obvious that the white guy wasn't a representation of all white people, I'm not going to be mad if the guy is bitter and says some racist stuff. It's understandable. Wrong but understandable.

heres the difference mccain is not a 17yr old scrub on a boxing forum hes running for the presidency of the most powerful country in the world!!!!! and he didnt make the racial slur bomb in casual talk he made it in his SPEECH! meaning it was more than premeditated it was pre-written and im sure some of his team begged him not to use the slur but he went on his emotions.
-
Re: Who's worse for the sport of Boxing? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
yo bro im not even vietnamese, but it pissssssses me off that he used that word in his speech. if he used any other racial slur word it is just as bad!
unfortunately only the "N" bomb draws nationwide contraversial attention.
look at all the BS that happen to the biotch from seinfield and that was just stand up this is a president candidate running for the presidency u see the difference?

17 year old scrub ok. Anyways, ....I didn't say it was right. It's understandable someone could remain bitter on something like that. I can go through and highlight the number of times I said it wasn't right if you want.

i wasnt calling u a 17yr old scrub bro, besides didnt u just turn 18? or am i mistaken???
my point is if you gonna run for office dont u think u should put your racist personal feelings aside and not even mention them in a speech? its quite foolish and pathetic dont u think?
whats worse is society accepts it?
again we trip out on comedians/rappers etc 24-7, but a man who can very well be our next president says this only a few years ago? feel me bro?

Re: Who's worse for the sport of Boxing? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
17 ;D
And I get you completely, I'm agreeing with you. It just seems your getting worked up when I'm agreeing with you. I know it was wrong and McCain is an idiot a lot of the times, but that was one thing where it's kind of like the old grandpa is venting about his wartime. Not smart, definitely not what you want to see out of a president but I don't think he should have been crucified the way he was for it either.

Re: Who's worse for us CURRENT BOXING FANS? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
Personally if those commie gook mutherfuckers captured and tortured him like they did to Rambo then you can understand how he felt completely.
I'm all for a bit of hatred in speeches.
Anyone remember the furore that Arnold caused during his induction speech as governor of California?
He talked about some of his political enemies being 'girlie' men.
He had apparently said the term at a minor convention a few weeks before and his team strongly advised him to not to say it again. But Arnold takes orders from no man and repeated it at the big conference, and to thunderous applause I might add 8)
We need more machismo in our leaders. That new French President is right now leading the way with his hilarious address at the G* Summit this week where he turned up pissed out of his skull after a meeting with Putin.
Here's the vid, it's worth a giggle

To say Arum no longer has single digit champions and prospects in way out of bounds. Pac Man, Cotto, Margarito, Clotty, Chavez, Jr, Pavlik, Soto, JM Lopez, Arce, Castillo. I know this is only 10, but put this up against GBP fighters. Everyone talks how GBP is the future, they have Oscar, Mosely, Barrera, and Hopkins. These 4 prob only have a fight left. Besides that they have JM Marquez, Winky, Ponce-De-Leon, Barrios, Larrios. I think Top Rank definatley has the supperior fighters and better younger fighters.

Re: Who's worse for us CURRENT BOXING FANS? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
It'll be interesting to see what young fighters GB can sign. Right now all their big names are right near the end of their careers... Oscar, Shane, Hopkins, Barrera, etc.
Those guys will all be done in a year or two.
I was very optimistic about GB when it was first founded. There have been some ups and downs so far. We'll see if Oscar really tries to change the way the business of boxing works, or if he's just in it to make the most money possible, like every other promoter.

Re: Who's worse for us CURRENT BOXING FANS? Oscar or Richard Schaffer?
I can understand you disliking Schafer and Oscar BestP4P but I don't see why so much dislike. Some of the best cards of last year and a couple this year have been presented to us by GBP.It offers another alternative to the monopoly by Arum and DK. So I don't really see what the problem is.
