Just saw Cotto - Judah replay. Fight was not that close
At first I thought it was a back and forth contest. But in truth it was an 11 round beat down. Cotto was not even that badly hurt. He was just stunned and rocked but not as badly hurt I thought the first time I saw it.
What do you guys think after seeing it a second time.

I agreed with Lederman's scorecard. I believe he had it 8 rounds to 2.
Cotto was consistently winning the rounds, although you did always feel like Zab was dangerous, which made it a dramatic fight even if the scorecards weren't close.

I never thought it was close Judah maybe won 3 rounds at max it was competitive for 5 rounds then after that it was a beatdown.

yeah after the second time..yeah didn't realize that it was actually nthe second round when judah stopped punching..and yeah cotto really really really did a number on him...

Re: Just saw Cotto - Judah replay. Fight was not that close
Yes i think Cotto kicked the crap out of Zab for most of the fight and it wasnt close at all.
Zabs chin suprised me i must say , i expected him to get KOED quicker.

I have not seen the fight but i understand entirely where you're coming from !
It's so easy to get caught up in the emotion of the moment but when the dust settles and you have another look you will see a different fight .
2 figths stand out for me !
MaB - Naz
Alan Minter - Hagler
If you'd read the papers or listened to ' boxing experts' you'd see 2 completely different fights .
Watch Naz-MaB with the sound off without the commentators getting caught up in the sheer excitement and with the Pro MaB crowd going wild and tis a massive difference

No thwe fight was not close at all....I do give Judah credit he did not self destruct and go off like an idiot EG Mayweather bout....IMO Cotto was just to imposing on Judah even outboxing him at times...Miguel is improving each time out.....

I only watched the replay and it was not what I was expecting after reading the posts last Saturday and Sunday. For some reason I thought Cotto had gotten rocked and almost knocked down. I know I read that somewhere on the board.
Anyway, Cotto was expressionless. I was intimidated by him just sitting on my sofa watching it. I did feel for Judah getting hit low, but I doubt it changed the course of the fight. His beating at the hands of Cotto seemed inevitable.

Cotto is certainly a very dedicated fighter. You can see adjustments and improvements each time he steps into the ring. He stays busy, fights regularly and he backs up what he says.

yeah thats exactly right.. I rewatched it as well, and obviously didn't see the rounds any differently, it was very clear Judah only won 2 or 3, but I also did feel that Zab rocked Cotto just as badly as I had originally thought in the first round. He definetly had the ability to damage Cotto and was dangerous throughout.. It was even more puzzling this time around, to me at least, as to why he didn't at least try and let his hands go a little more. He also caught Cotto with a peach of a left hand with about 20 seconds left in the 2nd round that wobbled him a little, but didn't try and follow it up. Cotto was always very quick to recover in the 3 instances he was slightly hurt, but I still feel Zab was too gunshy and eliminated his only chance by being tentative.

Re: Just saw Cotto - Judah replay. Fight was not that close
He didn't let his hands go more because he was afraid of what was coming back AND I think ZAB was trying to conserve energy. I don't think he expected Miguel to be so tough and for his stamina to be so good. I didnt think the fight was all that close at the time and even less so on second viewing.

Judah has never thrown alot and he was worried about Cottos power and for good reason and Cotto has been wobbled worse than what Judah done to him aka Corley aka Torres.

Re: Just saw Cotto - Judah replay. Fight was not that close
Cotto has massive heart....I just hope it doesn't cause him trouble in the future because had Torres gone to the body when Miguel was hurt Cotto could have been destroyed in that fight and his career ended....in all seriousness. Because had Cotto took repeated FLUSH shots from Torres he'd have been in a world of shit!

Re: Just saw Cotto - Judah replay. Fight was not that close
After the 2nd round I dont think Judah was thinking too about winning. I think It was more a matter of what can i do to look good against this guy who is too much for me and what can i do to keep this guy off me enough to get a break. He was in way over his head and drowning from round 3 and on.

Re: Just saw Cotto - Judah replay. Fight was not that close
Although... I didn't like Cotto's INTENTIONAL low blow.
Makes me wonder what he'd do if Margarito hurt him. hmmm :detective:

Re: Just saw Cotto - Judah replay. Fight was not that close
"Man he break my dick man!" - Zab Judah
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy ;D

Was it "break" that he said? I listened to that clip a few times but I couldn't make out that word. I couldn't tell if he said break/broke, bashed, or punched.
I just know Mercante went to him and said, "Zab, you all right?"
and Zab said:
"Man, he b---- my dick man, it hurts!!!!"

Re: Just saw Cotto - Judah replay. Fight was not that close
Zab did show he could take a beating like a grown man though....props for that.

Re: Just saw Cotto - Judah replay. Fight was not that close
I've watched it a couple of times now and Cotto was winning by four rounds and was in no danger of losing a decision. He should consider himself very lucky he wasn't DQ'd for the Low Blow (2nd one)

Re: Just saw Cotto - Judah replay. Fight was not that close
cotto was so dominate it's easy to forget he got his tooth put thru his lip.. he was relentless, he was physcal, he was everything we hoped he would be.. a future p4p top 10.. possibly a top 3 fighter in the world within a couple of years..

Why would he have gotten DQ'd. He got a warning the first time and he got a point deducted the second time. If we go by what usually happends, if he had hit him low a third time, he would get another point deduction and a DQ the on the fourth low blow. Some refs give two warnings before taking a point. That would mean a DQ in the 5th low blow.
They did not look intentional to me (though I might be wrong of course), but they were hard as hell, especially the one in the third round.
-
Re: Just saw Cotto - Judah replay. Fight was not that close
doesn't matter if cotto hit him low a third time..after the second low blow...
mercante told ZAb "come on Zab, you can't win it on a disqualification" so after a statement like that it would have taken an outrageous foul for cotto to be DQ'd
-
Re: Just saw Cotto - Judah replay. Fight was not that close
Back to the subject. It was real easy to get cought in the moment. Your guy's out there getting rocked every couple of rounds. He is bleeding badly through his mouth. The guys at the house are screaming with every pounch landed. Even the second time I saw it with nobody around, did you notice how laud it was in the Garden?
-
Re: Just saw Cotto - Judah replay. Fight was not that close
I'm surprised that anyone thought that match was close.
That was the most physical fight that I have seen in years. It wore me out just watching it.
One of Cotto's best performances...outside of the low blows...which were absolutely unintentional...it was his best.
As bad as this sounds...the second time around...I thought it was stopped to soon...but only for my satisfaction. I wanted to see Judah down & out...but he was so beat down that it really didn't matter. ;D
