Re: HBO BOXING POLL COTTO V MAYWEATHER, VOTE!!!!
Miguel has as good a chance as anyone else if not better due to his body attack....he'd fair better than Hatton

Re: HBO BOXING POLL COTTO V MAYWEATHER, VOTE!!!!
at the moment the votes are basically 50/50
-
Re: HBO BOXING POLL COTTO V MAYWEATHER, VOTE!!!!
I think if you took this poll a week before Cotto faught Judah you'd get the likely result of the fight. A lopsided Mayweather decision.

Re: HBO BOXING POLL COTTO V MAYWEATHER, VOTE!!!!
It doesn't matter what people think, Mayweather would win easier than he did against Dela Hoya. Oscar went to the body a lot against Mayweather, but its hard, and because of his, Oscar's, speed it forced Mayweather to protect upstairs more than he would have to against the little bit slower Cotto. Its not that Mayweather can necessarily take Cotto out, but they do drain opponents. Before he hurt his hand he was really starting to bother Baldomir because its so frustrating getting hit by pretty hard shots over and over without being to land anything. Baldomir was able to land effectively, and even counter punch Judah, but he looked lost against Mayweather, and thats how I think Cotto would be as well. As similar as Judah is to Mayweather physically, and stylewise they are polar opposites in determination and focus. This is the most important aspect of fighter.

Re: HBO BOXING POLL COTTO V MAYWEATHER, VOTE!!!!
Miguel Cotto keeps impressing me with each fight. I love watching him fight. He has a lot of heart. I have no doubt he'll fight Mayweather (unlike Hatton) if giving the opportunity. And he'll hold his own. But he won't win. Mayweather is just in a league of his own. At this point in his career, Mayweather is pretty much unbeatable.
-
Re: HBO BOXING POLL COTTO V MAYWEATHER, VOTE!!!!
Cotto will beat Mayweather down. The right side of Mayweather's face will get disfigured like the other boxers who will "too fast" for Cotto.
Mayweather beat Oscar, but he didn't look good doing it. He looked downright skerd.
-
Re: HBO BOXING POLL COTTO V MAYWEATHER, VOTE!!!!
Cotto is good offensively but his defense leaves a lot to be desired. I'd have to go with Pretty Bob on this one.
-
Re: HBO BOXING POLL COTTO V MAYWEATHER, VOTE!!!!
Wow the poll is now 51-49 in favour of Cotto beating Floyd ???
I'd give Cotto a 20% at best.
Really apart from a freakish injury or getting caught flush there is no way Floyd loses that fight.

Cotto is neither DLH or Baldomir so I wouldn't make those comparisons. 3 completely different styles and skill levels.
That's a fight that can go either way if Floyd is man enough to take it.

Re: HBO BOXING POLL COTTO V MAYWEATHER, VOTE!!!!
Every fighter has a style that they can not defeat or figure out at least. Oscar never looked good with fighters that were faster than him. Judah couldn't handle fighters who put constant pressure throughout the fight. Trinidad couldn't defeat those who were more deffensive than offensive. Shane couldn't figure out a bigger fighter that used a simple jab all fight long. I say this cause Mayweather seems pick the right opponents so he could look good. He never wants to take a chance. Not one fighter he has fought has had all the right tools to defeat him or at least all the right tools in one fighter. Oscar was the best but his power didn't seem to be doing much to floyd. I hnestly don't think oscar wanted to win that fight either.
To me, Cotto has those tools to pull off an upset. Because I truly believe it would be an upset. Mayweather is looked as a god in the boxing world. Here is why I think Cotto could pull off the upset.
1) Cotto would attack Mayweather the same way that Oscar did, but I don't think Oscar's power is even close to Cotto's at 147.We saw what Mayweather did when Oscar attacked him......he moved ,fought backwards and was always looking for the counter.
2) People continue to underestimate Cotto's speed and Accuracy. Oscar has those same things but he likes to throw them in flurrys and in bunches. He really didn't concentrate on trying to land a good punch or try breaking down his opponent. He was just trying to win a round and was probably focused on the final scorecards.
3) Oscar used his jab early in the fight and we all saw that it looked effective on PBF. Cotto used his jab on Judah and that to me looked like was key to keeping Judah from thowing alot of punches. I think it was a great strategic plan on Cotto's team and I think that they prepared him well for that fight. I think Cotto would use his jab alot to stop Mayweather from moving as much so he could move in and get work done.
4) I don't think Mayweather has ever fought someone with the mindset of Cotto. Someone who not only comes to win...he comes to destroy everyone and everything in the ring.
Cotto would need to be cautious with PBF's great counter-punching. If PBF's power doesn't seem to be hurting Cotto........I believe it would be a long night for PBF and Cotto would win this by decision. I truly think that Cotto's style will give PBF trouble. everyone has that 1 fighter or one style they can't figure out.
Of course, I can't say KO because we all know, Mayweather will make a great match-up a boring one to watch while Cotto could make a boring match-up..... a great fight to watch :)!!

Who has been considered "too fast" for Cotto, other than Zab?
People thought Zab's speed would cause Cotto problems in terms of Zab being able to land big shots with his hand speed.
No one thought Zab would be able to use his speed to avoid Cotto's punches, because Zab isn't a good defensive fighter, despite his speed.
Floyd is a totally different fighter than Zab. He uses his speed to make guys miss.

These numbers are amazing. The people voting just don't know what they are talking about. I would give Cotto a shot but for him to actually be a slight favorite is absolutely ridiculous.
I do think Cotto could make a good fight out of it but he would get hit and would get hit often. Once PBF sees this, he will go to town and possibly KO Cotto late. But Cotto has a shot if he can stay busy and keep PBF on the defensive long enough to win most rounds. They only thing that could beat Floyd is his inactivity. The fight with Oscar shouldn't have been that close but Floyd was just not active enough in a lot of those rounds.

Re: HBO BOXING POLL COTTO V MAYWEATHER, VOTE!!!!
It would be a great fight that could go either way but i'd lean towards the underdog in this one . It would be the 1st time Floyd met a fighter in their prime and I dont think he'd cope with the heat .
Their common opponents , Judah , Sosa and Corley . Cotto stopped them all and Floyd won them on points .

This doesn't really say much. Cotto is an agressive, come forward power puncher. And Floyd is pot shotting, defensive boxer. What you should compare is Cotto and Floyd's faces after the Judah fights.
I would still root for my man Cotto though. I would whatch a Cotto fight over a PBF fight any day.

Yeah Floyd got hit alot less but thats cuz the first time Zab landed his right hook Floyd was on the deck . Cotto was never floored by Judah . Floyd was also dropped by Hernandez and hurt by Corley so perhaps he doenst have the belief in his chin and thats why he doenst take chances , abit like we found out with Roy Jones. Cotto would certainly test his whiskers.

Re: HBO BOXING POLL COTTO V MAYWEATHER, VOTE!!!!
What people don't seem to understand is that Cotto has just as good a chance as anyone who has supposedly had a chance in the past. Factors:
1. Mayweather has little power to KO Cotto. Thus, this fight is going th distance if Floyd wins.
2. Mayweather is not a motion guy. What I mean is that he doesn't float like a butterfly. He simply makes you miss to the head. Baldomir, Oscar, etc. have tried to hit Floyd in the head, but were unable to do so effectively. Judah was the only one to do it with success (he knocked down Floyd, but it wasn't called). Main point? Mayweather's body is easy to hit. That's Cotto's strength right there. Cotto should focus on that and hit Floyd in the body, arms, shoulders, everywhere but the head. This will wear down Floyd, who has a nice physique but seems so brittle/little that I don't think he can sustain a pounding of the likes that Cotto gives.
3. Because of Cotto's ability to cut the ring off (as opposed to following Floyd around like de la Hoya did), Cotto has a great shot.
4. People keep talking about Floyd's speed, and he does have speed. But Cotto fought an arguably faster Judah, and a more powerful one, and it did not seem to affect Cotto at all. Remember, Cotto is willing to take a punch to throw one, and little Floyd's feather fists will not stop Cotto from coming.
5. Floyd will NOT be able to keep Cotto off him. Cotto is too strong.
6. As de la Hoya showed, if you have a good jab you can have success against Floyd. Cotto's jab is awesome and strong!! Cotto also seemed prepared for Judah, meaning they watched tapes and knew how what to do to beat him.
7. Cotto can deal with fast punchers. He has fought Corley (who did catch Cotto in the temple and made him shake), Sosa, Paulie, and Judah and they were all unable to stay away from Cotto. Arguably, Mayweather is on another level, but how much faster is he than them that will stop Cotto?
8. Whether Cotto has no chance at all or not he might as well get a shot. What's the worse he could do? Lose like everyone else before him, that's all. But the possibilities are exciting!!
9. Floyd will only make the fight if he gets the money. Arum, give him the money. Invest in Cotto because if Cotto beats him, then Cotto will be in the driver's seat and Mayweather will have been knocked off.

Re: HBO BOXING POLL COTTO V MAYWEATHER, VOTE!!!!
Look i love cotto and i also like mayweather..but in my opinion cotto has absolutly no shot at beating pbf....i don't see how he got all these credentials from beating judah, this is just the latest hope we have of someone beating pbf....and if you think about it's not so much that people like the people mayweather faces it just that we want to see him loose no matter who he faces and then we fabricate a ton of reasons why (whoever the flavor of the month is at the time) can. Gatti has too much heart and is too tough..pbf leaves him on his stool, judah is faster, baldomir is stronger, de la hoya is just plain better etc......there isn't a fighter at least right now that can beat pbf...and i hate to say it especially cotto. Like i said before a couple of months ago most would laugh at even the idea of cotto beating pbf now all of the sudden....anyhow just my opinion don't bash me cotto fans i'd love to see him beat pbf as well. But it aint gonna happen

1, Nothing wrong with a distance win for Mayweather
2, Gatti said the exact same thing. Didn't exactly work for him
3, What's the point of cutting off the ring if you can't connect?
4, Judah has no idea how to use his speed. Mayweather does
5, It still won't matter
6, Cotto ain't Oscar. And Mayweather is definitely not Judah.
7, Cotto has big problems with fighters with faster hands. See Corley and Torres fights
8, Yes he should get a shot

Guys I'm Puertorican too but I ain't biased like the rest of PR, PBF is another on dimension than Cotto. Cotto makes too many mistakes defensively, he will be open for counters all night long. Floyd will make him look bad if he doesn't stop him, because those crisp and hard counters that Floyd will land against Cotto all night long can eventually turn his legs into spaghetti again. Cotto is too open, too robotic and slow for the best technical boxer in the world right now. Power is a big factor against this kind of fighter(Floyd), but when you put it against the skills of PBF is a technical mismatch for Cotto.
PBF Lopsided UD or PBF TKO 9 rnd. Guys accept it Cotto is nowhere Floyd's league and he will never be.

9, Yes, Arum pay them both
Guys I'm Puertorican too but I ain't biased like the rest of PR, PBF is another on dimension than Cotto.
Oh, I Completely agree when you say Cotto leaves himself open for countering. Floyd is an expert at counter-punching. So the immidiate prediction to many people's mind is that the fight would be easy fight for PBF.I think if the fight was to be held today PBF would beat him.
I'm saying Cotto needs to show improvement on his Defense,he needs time and fights to work on it. If this fight is held within the next year, PBF would win cause of his experience. If Cotto waits, give at least 3-5 more fights with at least 2 mega fights with names such as (Margarito, Hatton or someone of that Caliber) I think he could be ready for the top dog.
PBF Lopsided UD or PBF TKO 9 rnd. Guys accept it Cotto is nowhere Floyd's league and he will never be.
I'm sorry I can't agree w/ you here.
1. TKO. floyd over Cotto .....Never
2. UD. Floyd over Cotto.....like I said, yes, if the fight gets done within the next summer.
3. "Cotto will never be in his league"
****You tell me who's in who's league.....Sosa, Corley & Judah all defeated by both Cotto and Mayweather. Mayweather wins 3 UD while Cotto KO'd all 3. You can't say Cotto's not in his league or never will be. Especially now that he looks alot better in 147.***
I'm not saying that Cotto is a god, All I'm saying is that every fighter has that one style or one fighter that they can't figure out. I truly believe Mayweather's is Cotto.
Roy Jones was looked at the same way that PBF is. "he's in his own league". All it took was a hungry fighter to come fight him and that question was answered quickly, wasn't it?

And you're basing Floyds greatness on what? Washed up fighters? Let me see him fight a great fighter still in their prime and if he's still undefeted or even performs well, he'll have my respect. Otherwise, who can really say that he's that much better than Cotto.
I think Cotto and Mosley have the best chance of beating Floyd. Mosley is no longer in his prime but he is a very smart and very skilled fighter with enough speed to make it happen.
Cotto may not have the speed but he knows how to sneak his punches in there with his great timing, he's cuts off the ring extremely well and he can switch to southpaw effectively which has been his secret weapon lately. Floyd just won't have the power to keep Cotto off IMO so it would take a masterful boxing performance for him to win.
Anything can happen in that fight and it can go either way and thats why Floyd wants Hatton and not Cotto.

Re: HBO BOXING POLL COTTO V MAYWEATHER, VOTE!!!!
I don't like Mayweather but he will keep Cotto too busy on defense and in trying to catch him for Cotto to be all that effective. I have to pick Floyd by UD
