Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
I thought that was AWESOME! cc

Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
If Mayweather considers himself a Welterweight, than it's him. If not it's Mosley. Cotto a close second.
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
I had Margarito, Cotto, then PBF
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
Mosley can fight Cotto now right?
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
I had
1) Margarito
2) Mosley
3) Cotto
:o Never thought I thought THAT highly of Mosley.
I just think stylewise, he can beat Cotto. Yet overall, I think Cotto can beat more Welterweights than Mosley.
Choosing between Margarito and Mosley was tough too, but Margarito's durability, HEIGHT advantage, and power convinced me. Mayweather hasn't done much at welterweight, other than face Carlos' Baldomir's "owned" list. Cotto displayed a fantastic match (as always). (Judah surprisingly showed up for once) Cotto is a highlight real in combinations and KO's, but Margarito is king of consistency. Mosley, I consider a dark horse who's vulnerable to certain fighters. The only thing Mayweather ever did at Welterweight was avoid an 8 million dollar paycheck in Margarito. ;) Now he's "retired" so he doesn't belong with todays crop of boxers. ;)

VD what has SSM done at 147 that makes him the best there?
I think Cottos #1, Baldomir #2, Margarito #3, SSM #4.
Being that PBF last fought at Light Middle thats where you would have to rate him, IMO.
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
There's no real right answer on how to handle Floyd. But I always looked at the move to 154 as a one-time thing to take the biggest fight out there. I don't think he has any plans to stay at 154 whatsoever.
If he fights again (which he will), it'll be at 147. And because of that, I'm still going to consider him active as of right now. I won't think of him as "inactive" unless we get to late '07 and he still hasn't signed a contract.
So:
1. Floyd
2. Cotto
3. Mosley (although I don't feel great about putting him this high)
4. Margarito
5. Clottey

Baldomir is fighting Vernon Forrest at 154, so if you're removing Floyd, do you need to remove Baldomir?

Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
I'm not a big Mayweather fan but he's on top of my list, followed by a Miguel Cotto, or Mosely.
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
Paul Williams, yeah I went out on a limb. Few years from now I'll be all I told you so...He wont be welter for long.

The fight hasn't happened. What if the fight falls through?
If the fight happens then rightly so Baldomir will be rated at 154.
PBF-ODLH happened already there for thats where I rate them both.
Same applies to someone like David Haye whos a Cruiser but last fought at Heavy. therefor I rate him as a Heavy.
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
PBF
COTTO
MOSLEY
MARGO
WILLIAMS
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
Anyone who says anybody but Mayweather is ignorant.

It's the fact that I would pick Mosley to win over all 3.

Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
I'm a little surprised that I'm the only one who has even brought up Clottey's name (I had him at #5).
What has Paul Williams done at this point to be above Clottey? He hasn't fought anyone really legit yet. If he beats Margarito, obviously I'd bump him up to the Top 5, but he hasn't done it yet.

That's fair enough. Makes sense.
I just wasn't sure if you were forgetting that Baldomir was moving up to 154.

Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
It's stupid to put Margarito in front of Mayweather, Cotto less so, but still its a loooong stretch to say he would beat Mayweather. Margarito had a lot of trouble with Clottey who may have won if both hands had held up, and Cotto was impressive, but so was Baldomir against Zab Judah who Judah couldn't hurt, and had a harder time hitting cleanly. I think Baldomir is still up there.
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
1. mayweather
2. mosely
3. cotto: but not for long
4. margo
5. p. williams
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
I had-
1. Cotto
2. Mayweather
3. Mosely
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
Cotto or Mayweather if he comes back down.
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
Yeha but when one says best WW,does one mean the fighter who has accomplished the most at WW OR the one whom you think would stand the best chance of beating the rest? I base it on accomplishments:
Margarito
Cotto
Shane
Margarito is not top 3 RING and ESPN for no reason and has beaten more top 10 fighters than anyone else at WW and is undefeated at the weight for about 20 plus fights. Hes about to make the 7th defence of his title against another dangerous opponent.
Cotto has been a wrecking machine since he arrived on the scene and has 2 good wins v Quintana and Judah.
Mosley achieved some good wins but they were in the past but coupled with Collazo,it's still impressive.
I don't see why Baldo would be there nor Floyd. Floyd fought 3 fighters at WW:
Zab coming off a loss
Sharmba old and shot
Baldo:anyone of the above 3 fighters I mentioned have fought better fighters than Baldo.
If it's based on who I think would most likely beat the rest of the division THEN it would read:
Floyd
Margarito
Cotto
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
Mine came out
1,Mayweather
2,Mosely
3,Spinks
Spinks must have ended up in 3rd because i favoured him to beat Cotto

I see your point.
What about rating them as far as what they've done. Not who beats who cause I would agree with you I think SSM beats them.

Nah! I know about the fight...
I'm actually leaning more towards Baldomir judging them by their last outings is what leads me to say Baldomirs gonna win.

Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
SUGA SHANE MOOOOOSLEEEEY, WE GONNA SHUT UP PRETTY BOY, WE GONNA CRACK UP TONY AND THEN WE GONNA BEAT THE SHIT OUTA MIGUEL, TAKIN DA WORLD BY STORM AGAIN :o
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
How I'd rate the top welterweights against Miguel Cotto (in no particular order):
a. PBF - He could win by decision if he stays away and boxes all night long. If he engages Miguel and gets caught to the body, Cotto will eventually catch up to him and give him holy hell.
b. Margarito - A good, action-packed fight, but I give Cotto the edge, based on hand speed and general boxing skills. The Cotto that beat Judah would take Tony out in 9-10 rounds.
c. Mosley - IMO, Cotto's most dangerous opponent. Mosley has fought well at 154, and has the combination of speed and power that could give Cotto fits. Not a gimme for either fighter, tho.
d. DLH - Personally, I'd love to see Cotto give DLH the same type of beating he gave Judah. If DLH thought Hopkins' liver shot was bad, he'd have a rude awakening vs. Cotto. It'd be competitive for a little bit, but Father Time is not on DLH's side.
e. Williams - Don't know enough about the man. But people tend to overlook some previous Cotto fights against taller, powerful fighters. Kelson Pinto was supposedly some hot shot Brazilian puncher, who had in fact beaten Cotto in the amateurs. When they met in the pros (I was there), it wasn't a pretty sight. Cotto pounded the sh*t out of the poor guy.
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
1) Mayweather
2) Mosely
3) Cotto
4) Williams (still unbeaten and i'm basing this on him beating Margarito)
5) Chavez jr (i just like the guy and hes got bags of talent)
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
I say Mayweather could beat Cotto inside or outside.

Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
I have to rank PBF number 1. I have to rank Mosley and Oscar behind him until somebody other than PBF beats one of them. Then I have to throw in the rest. I don't care what ya' say about oscar....he can still fight. He's just not as active!
1. PBF
2. Mosley
3. Oscar
4. Cotto
5. Margarito
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
I rate Floyd @ both 154 & 147 as he still holds the Ring championship for 147.
So I think Floyd is the best
Cotto's next
Margarito &then
Mosley
... the great thing we have here is that if all of these guys meet up we're in for some great match-ups!!!
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
I guess I havent' said my whole list
PBF
Mosley
Margarito, Cotto(I think he is a little better than Marg, but not very tall which matters).
Paul Williams, Clottey, Baldomir
Collazo.

Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
I wish I was a promoter. This is pefect for an 8-12 man tournament!! Why NOT? You have the talent, the fame, and the fighters! Boxing needs something new! Make it a 3 division tournament. 140-147-154. Just think about it guys...............Look at these names, all in for greatest title ever.....the P4P title!! oh, Let's say Tito decides to come back....Let's throw him in.
1. Hatton (140)
2. Cotto (140-147)
3. DLH (147-154)
4. PBF ( anywhere)
5. Mosley (147-154)
6. Margarito (147)
7. Judah (140-147)
8. Spinks (147-154)
9. R. Karmazin (154)
10. C. Baldomir (147-154)
11. T. Trinidad (147-154)
12. R. Mayorga (147-154)

1. PBF
2. Mosley
3. Oscar
4. Cotto
5. Margarito
Quick question.
How is it possible to rank ODLH as a Welter when he last fought at 154 and he hasn't fought at 147 since 2001.

So you feel JCC Jr. has done more at 147 then Margarito?
How can you rate JCC Jr. top 5 of the Welters and leave out a guy whos been a Welter Champ. for 6 yrs. hasn't lost a fight at Welter since 1996.
Has been ranked amongst the top 5 Welters in the World for the better part of about 3 yrs.
Not only that but to rate JCC Jr. higher then him is even more mind boggling.

Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
Well...if I got myself in the gym and worked down the weight, I'd have to say I'm the best out there at Welter right now ;D. I'm more ducked than Margarito ::** ;D
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
sugar shane is the man at welter weight.
-
Re: Who's the best current Welterweight?
Because you can't argue with what Floyd has achieved, I rank him as Welter #1 and Cotto #2, despite the fact I believe Cotto can beat him. I'd rank Mosley #3, guess I gotta rank that little scroat Margarito as #4 (as much as it pains me to do it!) and I guess #5 would be Baldomir.
Clottey is pushing for a place though.
