He could have done a lot better with the power that he had.
No combo's, couldn't fight on the inside, but very muscular and powerfull
A gentleman indeed, very humorous for a fighter
Big Franks power was always a bit of a mystery to me as i watched his career ,
againest fringe fighters it was awsome he used to blow away lesser oposition.
Athough he hit the bigger name fighters with the same punches , he didnt seem to knock many over,
i think at the higher level fighters could ride the punches better as Bruno lacked sharpness in his shots.
a fantastic worker and good guy , but its hard to rate his power for the reasons i have just explained.
i remember a weak chinned Carl Williams lasting into the tenth before being bludgend to the floor, Williams as we know was KOED by Tyson and Weaver easily.
So i would say big power , huge strength, but just lacked timing and sharpness at the very highest level.
:) im interested to read the other views on here :)
When Frank was prepareing for fights Ive known him have as many as 6 sparring partners in camp. Theres a reason for that to give some time off. I talked to them who had sparred with all the good fighters of the time, all said Frank was the hardest hitter which I found interesting. One day he hit a guy in the chest and crushed his sternam he could hit.
Dark you make a good point. The trouble with Frank was confidence this he lacked.
Yes i agree he did lack that confidence and a bit of killer instinct.Quote:

Great power, just a terrrible defence after been caught with a decent shot, never covered up and just left his chin out to dry. Even the fights he losts (apart from Tyson fights) he was ahead when stopped.
I.e Bonecrusher, Witherspoon, Lewis.
Let's not forget the he fired mostly one powerpunch at a time and against the top that was not enough
He was behind on all cards in the Witherspoon fight I think.Quote:

He was one of the 1st to wobble Tyson ;)
Got to be carefull here, Just to say Frank was very aware and nervous of his role shall we say. We sat down often, when on his own he would open up He is one beutifull person when relaxed.
I saw that fight on BBC.
At the end of the 1st round he caught Tyson with a good punch
But boy did he pay for it !!
I even bought a bottle of HP's Frank Bruno's HotSauce just becaule i liked him so much !! ;D
Franks main problem was when hurt he would'nt take a knee and take an 8 count even Nigel Benn said this about him he would just freeze when caught by a big shot. He was a massive puncher though
Actually i just thought of a way to describe Franks power
It was like the OLD George Foremans , big power not much sharpness .
YOU AGREE ?
I agree to a degree.
Big George had a bigger arsenal of different punches
Nah he was well ahead mateQuote:

I used to remember it that way too but Boxrec has him behind on all judges cards when the fight was stopped 94-97, 96-98, 96-99 so was heading to a points defeat anyway. ???Quote:

Did'nt he spar Tom Jones ?
Its not unusual.
I know Tom was supposed to do a charity bout with TysonQuote:

Top ten easily like someone else said could never ko the elite of the elite but to be fair Witherspoon and Tyson had solid chins and Lewis had decent chin aswell.Quote:

I remember someone taking a reading of Franks right cross and it registered a similar reading to a sledgehammer!
Think it was in the build up to the Witherspoon fight ;)
Frank undoubtedly had heavy hands, but his power was next to useless at the highest level, due to his lack of mobility, stamina & is lack of athleticism due to his over muscled frame.
He never floored a world class opponent, even if he did mark up or wobble a couple of them.
Ahh yea i forgot about Bonecrusher one he wobbled Mike with 12 seconds left in the fight.Quote:
