This is interesting. You'd think Castillo would be loaded.
RICKY HATTON will climb through the ropes for his blockbuster fight in Las Vegas on Saturday night knowing his opponent possesses two of the most dangerous qualities in boxing.
Jose Luis Castillo is brilliant and broke.
I also read somewhere that he still has to pay $100,000 (or something like that) for fines for not making the weight in one of his past fights which he has to pay before the Hatton fight. Not sure how true this is???

It says in the article that if he doesnt pay it by fight night then he will not be allowed to step in the ring.
Im sure Ricky will lend him the money if he cant pay it in time!! ;)
Its a crying shame that a fighter of his pedigree and with the number of big fights he has had, that he was wiped out by that fine alone. Have his purses been that small and for so many fights at the top? He has been at the top for quite a few years now.
Its odd and somewhat disheartening.
yea for a guy who has put life an limb on the line so many times , its bad news he has nothing to show for it :(

Well you can't really feel too sorry for him, we don't know how smart he has been with his money.. Also, the article even says he's only making 500,000 for this fight.. After taxes, sanctioning fees, promoters, trainers, etc. he will probably see less than half of that.. Which is less than what he was fined for not making weight against Corrales..
Given his recent history of failing to make weight, his apparent money problems, and his recent lackluster performance, I'd say it may not be far-fetched to predict a middle-round Hatton KO victory.
Have a very hard time seeing that to be honest. Hatton isn't a KO puncher, and Castillo, no matter how faded, is not Juan Urango. Im on the fence as far as picking a winner... I think if Castillo can get back to near his best form then it'll be a firecracker in which he'll make Hatton fight from the opening bell, and either guy could fade badly down the stretch, leaving actually more chance of a KO either way imo... If Castillo can't get up for this fight Id expect Hatton to box more early and win the fight on points after tiring late. Either way, I think the chance of a KO happening period is less if Castillo isn't in good condition, because then Hatton will be able to outbox him without having to go to war. If Ricky tries to go in there and stop Castillo, he'll open himself up to being hurt, even if Castillo is that fargone he's still dangerous in exchanges, it's just much easier for the opponent to avoid them.Quote:

Why not? He tried to outbox Urango and avoid excahgnes at all costs... Is Castillo less dangerous? And if JLC is really that faded Hatton would have an easier time boxing him and tying up inside.
