Hatton will only fight big names
Ricky Hatton says Saturday's super-fight with Jose Luis Castillo in Las Vegas is the only kind of bout he wants for the rest of his career.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/6742253.stm
Lets hope so
Cotto vs Hatton
or take on winner of Williams vs Margarito
Hatton vs Oscar
Hatton vs Mayweather
Hatton vs Mosley
So many options.

Re: Hatton will only fight big names
i think a home comming witter and then back to the us and take on the WW's, possibilites are endless....
-
Re: Hatton will only fight big names
He's been saying that since fighting KT
-
Re: Hatton will only fight big names
He's certainly talking the talk. For the sake of his legacy, I hope he also walks the walk.

Oh god i hope not mate i would hate to see Witter vs Hatton he should get in now if he beats Castillo and not waste time with big mouths who haven't proved much and are only really known in UK aka Witter plus it would be snoozefest.

Re: Hatton will only fight big names
Hatton says only big fights for him. So I guess that means we get to see
Ricky Hatton-Gianluca Branco
Ricky Hatton-Ted Bami
Ricky Hatton-Souleymane M'baye
I hope people don't pass out from all the excitement.

I'm thinking to myself, where does he go if he wins on saturday?? It wont be Cotto, it wont be Floyd, who then?? If i was a betting man, id say Mallinaggi, which for me aint a big fight, and for me is an undercard fight, but whoelse is there? Witter i have been told on good grounds Ricky will never fight Witter.
-
Re: Hatton will only fight big names
I dont blame him for it. He is clearly one of the tops in his class. He wants to establish a legacy like Harry Greb or Clay. You want to be known as the best you fight the best. I think he has the tools to do so.
-
Re: Hatton will only fight big names
He would have to move up to welter to even possibly find other big names to fight... And with any of the bigger names I find it difficult to see who he beats. Just remember how many names there are at welterweight right now... He's going to have one hell of a hard time cementing a real star status imo... There's noone else at 140 if he beats Castillo. That leaves,
Cotto
Mosley
Mayweather
Margarito
Pwilliams
Clottey
Cintron
Collazo
Judah

i love your postings gudnite vienna but witter-hatton will never happen.. ICE is right witter is not a big name outside of the UK hence not the superfight hatton is talking about..
too bad for hatton all the superfights is outside his division and even more bad news for hatton all of them are heavier than he is (which affects power punchers the most).. his pressure style still might get him a victory against mayweather possibly dlh and if he can beat them he definatly has a shot at beating cotto
but with the weight differance any of the superfights will be very difficult

Re: Hatton will only fight big names
I think it's funny that when Hatton says he wants big names, people come forward and include Junior Witter in that catagory. He's not a great fighter by any means. He's an ordinary fighter, who has proved his ordinary status time and time again.
The problem Hatton has is that I don't think that many 'big' names want to fight him. Gatti backed out when Hatton tried to secure that one. I know Gatti is run down, but if all else fails he could do alot worse than try and coax him into the ring. If you're looking for a truly big name, you'd say Cotto. Cotto is booked to fight Margarito in December though, and I wouldn't want Hatton waiting around for that long. With Floyd out of the picture, and for me, and Oscar fight unlikely, Shane Mosley might be the answer, but again...I just don't see it. Maybe Hatton would have better luck trying to get Juan Diaz or Joel Casamayor to move up for a fight with him.

Re: Hatton will only fight big names
I feel that Ricky will be going back on his word on this one, because should he decide to move up to welter i believe he will need to seek a couple of trial bout bout's to acclimatize himself to the welter division.

I think he will walk the walk.. The man proved with KT that he can fight and he will prove on Sat. that he is a top fighter who deserves to fight the best. Cotto/Hatton would be the next fight to prove something.

Re: Hatton will only fight big names
if he loses ( which he wont ) i think he will fight Paulio M or Witter either would take the fight IMO. But I know Ricky will win this one ive got full faith in him and i know he will do it!
-
Re: Hatton will only fight big names
The only fights out there for Hatton are Pauli M, Cotto/Mayweather. Will be happy with that though cant see PBF fight being made.
-
Re: Hatton will only fight big names
I would like to see Hatton vs Witter i think Witter deserves his shot at the number 1 he's been chasing him long enough and Hatton has been avoiding Warren promised Witter this fight often enough but it never came off because Warren knew that Witter could probably beat Hatton and ruin his investment.Out of all the Lightwelterweights out their i think Witter stands the best chance of beating him.

I would get a loan and bet as much as the bank would give me, that Ricky Hatton would stop Junior Witter without a fucking sweat. They're not in the same league. Witter was lucky he was fighting a past it Demarcus Corley to win a title, because otherwise, he wouldn't have one.

Re: Hatton will only fight big names
Im leaning towards a Hatton Witter fight in the UK myself. After Castillo there really isnt much else for him to do at 140, fight Malignaggi for the IBF title for the third time?
I'd like to see him steam straight in at welter after Castillo. If he isnt cut out for life at 147 so be it, at least he would have given it a proper go, and it will finally give all the Hatton haters a chance to let off some steam and say I told you so ;)
-
Re: Hatton will only fight big names
The only non-147 match up I'd be semi happy for Hatton to fight if he beats Castillo is the winner of a showdown between Juan Diaz v Casamayor if that ever comes off, either that or an unlikely showdown between Hatton and Pacquiao, the problem with that fight is Hatton would kill himself to get to 135lbs, the fight would almost definitely have to be 140lbs, maybe 138lb if your pushing it, but it's already a big cut for a Hatton these days.
Honestly I'd vomit all over the place if Hatton ever got into the ring with Junior Witter, I'd probably boycott it out of sheer repugnance, the way Junior treated Ricky after he beat John Thaxton was disgraceful, Witter single handedly destroyed his career for about 4 years because everyone hates him, his fights are boring and his opinion of himself is way too high. There was nothing to gain for other fighters to step in with Junior because the payday would be terible cos he can't sell tickets. He's really talented, but he takes like he's hard done to, when really he doesn't give 100% in the ring.

Now your one of my favourites on here but i think Witter would stand a really good chance this would be a real 50/50 fight he stopped Morua in 9 then Morua went on to fight Torres the WBO champ who had had Cotto in major trouble and he only won on UD12 so that made Witters result look better i dont think Witter gets enough credit he did a great job on N'dou with a damaged hand get that loan i will put my house up ;D

Re: Hatton will only fight big names
I think he could convince Casamayor to move up for the fight. It'd be a great fight. Casamayor beat an overweight Corrales so he'd stand a chance, and it'd be another big name for Hatton. Casamayor isn't doing much. He just cancelled a fight in Panama I think because he said he wants to concentrate on fighting the winner of Morales-David Diaz for his old WBC strap.

You see Witter run for his life against Colin Lynes for 12 rounds, he won a razor thin decision that night and stunk the place up to high heaven, and his fight against Morua was a soothing nap for me, so I was fresh as a daisy when Ricky faught later on that night in Vegas. And Corley again was great relaxation for my eyelids.

Re: Hatton will only fight big names
I get where your al coming from but i think Hatton would bring out the best in Witter he's wanted this fight for so long and if Hatton does win he gets one of them lovely green belts WBC ;)

Haha, sounds like a plan. I try not to be overly opinionated by this, but Witter really gets under my skin. For me, he's a mouth who's proven nothing. He's ordinary. You can't go off that Morua-Torres thing. That could have just been a Torres off not. Witter was poor against Morua. I laughed my arse off at his attempt to finish him, because he was swinging wildly at the air. I really don't rate him. I don't think you're giving Hatton enough credit by the same token. I bet Hatton would have stopped Morua in 3. You really think Witter could have beaten Tszyu?

Re: Hatton will only fight big names
Hatton didn like Maussa, stormed in recklessly but still thoroughly beat n outclassed him.
Hatton REALLY doesn't like witter, again he'd storm in reckleslly and i don't think he'd pull back till he really hurt witter.
Witter is awkward and can box...and he switch hits so that gives him a kind of enigma factor but i jus don't believe he has the skills required to dissuade hatton from knocking him out.
-
Re: Hatton will only fight big names
But Maussa is'nt nowhere near as good as Witter he has no skill he's abit wild he got in a lucky punch against Harris and won a world title if Witter vs Hatton makes us the fans debate like this surely its worth seeing.
-
Re: Hatton will only fight big names
hatton beats up witter but i would still like to see it purely to shut witter up.
-
Re: Hatton will only fight big names
Oh ya id definitely watch it! An im not sayin that Witter isnt better than Maussa, its jus maussa was the last guy hatton boxed that he really didn like is all.
-
Re: Hatton will only fight big names
He fought Kostya then easy title options Maussa,Collazo and Urango now he's fighting Castillo but he could be a spent force so Witter deserves a shot at least he's lively and he's definately better than Maussa,Collazo and Urango.

He's not better than Collazo. Collazo could beat Witter for me. Also I don't think it's really that much of a debate. If it happens, I go for Hatton to shade a close 30 second first round with a KO ;D (hope my bias hasn't shown through)

Casamayor would take Hatton to school. Let see Hatton try that dirty shit with Casamayor and see who wins.

Re: Hatton will only fight big names
I don't think it would matter what type fight it was Hatton is Physically, Technically and Mentally a superior fighter to Casamayor.

Technically? Is that a joke.....
-
Re: Hatton will only fight big names
Casamayor is a better boxer than Ricky, no doubt about that. Hatton would beat him though. Of course it goes without saying that it would be daylight robbery, Casamayor, like Glenn Johnson can never actually lose a fight.
-
Re: Hatton will only fight big names
Hatton needs big fights at 147 after this. The only possibly viable option at 140 would be a Malignaggi fight but fights against Cotto,PBF and the other big guns at 147 would be much better for his legacy.

Hatton wasn't even superior to Luis Collazo. Casamayor by all rights should be undefeated

Re: Hatton will only fight big names
Jolly good show Ricky boy! Just the big names then, is Witter a big name?
I guess he will have to fight him as i believe Cotto will fight the winner of Margo V Williams come October/November. Once he finishes with Witter then it must be the winner of Cotto V Margo/Williams.
Hey Mosley isn't doing anything for the rest of the year, give him a call Fatboy!
