Your most overrated British boxers?
Whi are your most overrated but popular British boxers of recent years?
I'll start by saying Nasheem Hamed (only fought one world class boxer and was destroyed, Lloyd Hoenyghan (1 good fight does not make a good career), Paul Ryan (please), Audley Harrison (again erm), Herbie Hide (Herbie who), Pele Reid (hahah), Paul Hodgkinson, Kirkland Lang, Crawford Ashley (oh not the body), Johnny Armour, Takaloo, Adrian Dodson and who could forget Gary Jacobs!

Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
Easily Naz the Spaz.
Made an utter kunt out of himself against Barrera and it serves the arrogant little dickhead right.
Still hate the prick to this day ;D

Lol! As I can see you're a Hamed fan lol Yea he was destroyed, and 29 out of 31 boxing *so-called* pundits tipped Hamed for the KO, can you believe that?

Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
Knew he'd lose that as soon as it was announced.
Barrera made him look like a little boy ;)

He just built himself up so much that he fell harder.

Quality then the ref takes away points and Barrera is like i don't give a S*** :lolhaha:

Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
Is this thread a joke or what? Seriously, Paul Ryan? Pele Reid? Takafuckingloo?
What the fuck is wrong with some people.
-
Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
Steve Spartacus has gotta be in with a shout.
I think the thing with Naz is mate that he put himself on such a high horse that he became a joke after Barrera who basically beat the fighter out of him just like Lewis did to Tyson. ;)
-
Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
Funny about Paul Ryan 22 and 0 and changes trainer bad move
-
Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
Was he ever not going to get found out though Scrap ;D He fought like a mad man, saw him aim a kick or two on the sly at some Euro import that buzzed him a bit, funny as.
-
Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
Never Naz. Naz was quality. He just lost his edge. He went into the Barrera fight as a dick. If he hadn't let his brothers rule him, then maybe he'd have won. Stupid dickhead in the end though.
I'd go with Junior fucking Witter. Hate that little chump so much.
I bet ten years ago if this thread had been posted, alot of americans would have said Lennox Lewis.
-
Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
yep Naz built himself up for the big fall - the invincibility aura he built left him now way back with the ego he had
MAB was only fighter he ever fought who was at the top of his game - I predicted that MAB would KO him in the later rounds
Can't help thinking Amir Khan may go same way. The guy has talent yes but is getting a bit cocky just like Naz. Wait till someone with a punch connects with his chin - might actually do him good to be knocked down to be honest
Saw the flash git driving round Leeds city centre couple of weeks ago in a Lamborghini (not sure it ws his) posing and letting everyone know he was in town.
Can't blame him I guess but he's getting it all before he's proved anything (remember AForce ! ;))
You need the hunger don't you agree ???
-
Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
Its interesting isnt it, he rattled on for agaes about how he wouldnt be like Naz. The next thing you know he's showboating in the ring and running people over in a flash motor ;D
I hope Amir does go the same way. He will do well to win as much as Hamed ;)

Yeah! I know the score on that... :)
-
Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
Robin Reid...
He scored well with the left hook against Calzagie but other than that is just a pretty well chiseled body!
Pele Reid ...just a kickboxer
Herbie Hide...Would have made a great cruserweight! Was fast but couldnt take a shot! He may still dent the cruserweights one day!
The little Irish guy...the pocket rocket. Cant think of his name and, ok, he' s not British but he was so dull! Tough but I dont think he ever troubled people with his punches.
Was never too sure of Colin McMillan towards the end of his career. He had a few good fights I guess.

Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
To all those who said Naseem Hamed grow up WBC,IBF,WBO world champ beat featherweight number 1 Johnson beat WBA champ aswell 15 title defences.
-
Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
If you want overrated Calzaghe and Hatton read it a weep boys ;D
-
Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
See this is where it gets grey for me. I knew it wouldnt be long before Joe and Ricks names were being mentioned.
TYSONBRUNO how do you think people rate Hatton and Calzaghe? Do you think people see them as the greatest fighters the world has ever seen or juts really good at what they do?
I think general popularity gets misconstrude as overating to be honest.
-
Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
They are both good but great no not yet anyway ,Naz did more than Joe and Ricky upto yet in my eyes

TYSON,
it's easy to stack up figures and make a fighter like hes the greatest.
If I told you of a fighter with the following statistics what would you think about him just from reading the statisctics?
- 3 time IBF Feather title holder with 5 defenses
- WBC Feather title
- WBO Feather title
- IBF Super Feather title
- IBC Super Feather title

Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
So as long as people see them as really good and not great they are being rated just right?
Ricks achieved more than Hamed, no doubt about that IMO.

You didn't answer my question.
It doesn't matter who it is we are just looking at statistics here not a name.
Whats in a name anyway?

You can't be serious? I'm still waiting for Hatton to achieved some thing worth while besides the Tszyu fight. As much as I enjoyed Hamed's downfall, I don't regard him as a complete bust.

How has he?
Because he has probably collected as many baubles as Hamed did but over two weight classes and he won his most important fight, Hamed didnt.

Oh! I'm not even talking about Hatton.
I'm just pointing out that you listed Nazs accomplishments like if they were a glorious monument of things. When in reality if you look into it you can make just about anyone look like they have a illustrious career.

Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
But he's not exactly overrated is he
-
Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
The problem with Naz is that he did show the kind of form and results that suggested he could have been a lot more than he was. When it all went tits up there were a lot of people saying he coulda, shoulda, woulda, Im one of them. Others who maybe didnt get to see him at his best or just dont want to or maybe dont like his style are thinking are you mad?
Still, gotta love him, if he wasnt around this board would be about 50,000,000 threads lighter ;)

Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
I can tell you the most overrated irish boxer. Barry McGuigan. Yeah he lost to Stevie Cruz in hot temperatures, but he never came back and proved what he had. To me he was overrated a bit. Good fighter but overrated.
-
Re: Your most overrated British boxers?
For the ones who say calzaghe think about this...
Untill he beat lacy much of the boxing world didn't give a damn about him called him 'crap' - even in england very few give a damn so how can someone whom most of the boxing world would fail to aknowlage because he was a dubbed a home town kept fighter be overrated? someone who has only realy just broken into the p4p list...
If calzaghe had been in the ring p4p list for the last 8 years you could have a case...
Naz without doubt is the most ovverated boxer to come out of the UK, you could also make a case for Frank Bruno and Sir henry cooper, a good guy but famous for being the first guy to put ali down... there were other 'british' boxers at the time better than him but never got the same fame or awe, Joe bugna springs to mind!
