I think this is pretty messed up JL Castillo was really counting on this payday. I hope it doesn't have a negative affect\

Update: Castillo be paid!
Although a Nevada Federal Judge granted an attachment in favor of Gary Shaw Productions and Diego Corrales’s Estate of up to $1,200,000 of any monies to be paid to Jose Luis Castillo, also required was that a bond of equal monies be collected from Gary Shaw Productions and Diego Corrales’s Estate. The bond was not received and as a result Castillo will be paid.

Gotta feel bad for JLC damn! thats figthing for free in other words. :(

They should stop a percentage not all of it thats like working for nothing this could be a bad thing he could lose all heart in the game and not put up much of a fight or it could be a good thing with his anger he mite fight his heart out get the win and a few more big paydays.Thats got to be Castillo's aim be number 1 and get back in the money more than anything surely their should be a law to stopping somebodys money like that thats like me not getting any money for working people still have to live this is madness.

this is messed up, castillo has a family to feed. its bad enought that he fights for a living, but to withhold his purse is cruel. Castillo should file a lawsuit, this is completely wrong.

I'm not sure why everyone feels so bad for Castillo.

His purse is being held because of lawsuits that are the result of Castillo's prior unprofessionalism. It's not like he's being scammed here.

Where will the money come from to pay for his preparation and team?

Sure Castillo has to pay what he owes, we all do, but let him do it sensibly. Castillo is staring down the barrel of a further two fights with no pay, he's likely to jack it all in and then what?

This will effect him mentally (no question) and could fire him up even more.

Yeah but Coralles is dead so he doesn't exactly need it. This money will just go to line the pocket of Gary Shaw. I know he paid for Corrales' funeral so I expect he'll keep this money as payment for that.

It would be nice if Coralles wife and kids got the money but I somehow doubt it

Did gary shaw have a written contract with corrales? cos i read somewhere that he never had signed contracts with any of his fighters. if shaw took the money instead of giving it to corrales family then i think that would alienate him from a lot of people in boxing

I agree if he's found guilty in court he should have to pay, but to take his whole purse when he's already behind the 8 ball is just wrong. He's pretty much broke right now as it is. And you can't say he made no attempt to make the weight. Look how he was at the weight in, he look completely drained. His body just couldn't make the weight anymore.

Yeah, I don't see how some people dont feel bad for Castillo. It's true his actions put him in this position, but talk about kicking someone when they are down.

It will be hard to fight knowing that you won't see any money from it.

I feel bad cause he's already been in so many wars and the only way he can't ever get out of debt, much less have enough to retire is to put his body through a lot more abuse...it doesnt seem right.

I agree castillio and his camp did this to themselves...unfortunatly this will affect the fight for both him and his camp...it will either be a huge distraction or piss him off and what better way to take out anger than on hatton. I belive the first will be true...he's not getting paid and neither is anyone else in his camp

why bring this up right before the fight, couldnt this have been announced until after the fight. I wonder if the pregnant wife can have a say in all this, maybe saying that Castillo should just keep his purse since Corrales is dead.

BUT, the guy that sued him is now dead..............
IMO I think this will motivate Castillo more, as his only option going forward is
to get more big name fights, and hence more money, he has got to be the lowest
paid fighter of his caliber.

it's a fifth of his purse that is being taken and held aside until the outcome of the lawsuit

Corrales is dead but his family arent.........
I understand that Castillo had a huge fine and lost his licence for 6months losing him even more money.the preperation for the fight cost both fighters money and neither got the purse for the cancelled fight but it wasnt Correles fault that Castillo didnt make the weight.

i hope it does motivate him he's a gr8 boxer

and i wanna see a good fight
but IMO with this coming out so close to the fight its gonna have bad mental effects

How in the world is he going to be motivated to get into the ring with a guy fully content to knock him out knowing that at the end of the night he will be receiving less than any of hattons sparring partners?

end of the day what castillo done in the or what should of been the third corales fight was bad, no excuse...

but when he gets in the ring in 24 hours times he is putting his health and life on the line, and there for should get eveyr single fucking $ that was coming to him.
