Is there a fighter you disslike but want to like?
been meaning to post this for a while...
Ok Cotto, this guy has it all for any fan to love...
Fights with his heart on his sleave, is a massive puncher, can fight 12 rounds in a war - has a suspect chin so there is always going to be twists and turns and an action packt fight when ever he is in the ring - there is no reaosn for you not to like him unless he badly beat a guy you love!
buthere is the thing!
I don'tlike cotto, i don't know why... every time is ee him fight i think to my self "why don't you like this guy?" he has almose everything anyone could ask for a boxer to love, this is a guy when you hear he is fighting you can't wait to see it... but i just can't take to him but i want to coz i know being a fan of this guy would make his fights even more exciting!
Anyone else have a boxer they disslike but wish they did?

Re: Is there a fighter you disslike but want to like?
cc for the thread. good topic
Pacquiao.
I was his biggest supporter for over three years, probably longer.
Then, when he beat Barrera, he was on his way to becoming my next favorite.
Until he destroyed my fighter in Erik Morales. :'(
Now I can't but help hate him, even though I support his number one p4p status, talent, and utter dominance.
Ignorant fans think I hate on Mayweather, but deep deep down, I hate Pacquiao.
I'm just man enough, or smart enough, to admit Manny is the best.

Re: Is there a fighter you disslike but want to like?
Floyd Mayweather. I really dont like him but he is a good boxer, maybe great. Im not a fan but he has undeniable skills, so yeah i guess i want to like him but never will.
Also, I used to dislive Roy Jones but lately I like him more and more cause even though he was cocky I think he was really convinced he was the best and thats why he made it so far.

Re: Is there a fighter you disslike but want to like?
This is going to sound crazy but i want to like Judah but he makes it impossible to do so.
Also Vic drives me nuts, i should like him coming from OZ but that style of his annoys the crap out of me.
Mayweather won me over after the Oscar fight and Mundine is allright until he starts talking, now there is a guy suffering verbal diahorrea!

I like the topic but HATE IS A PRETTY STRONG WORD.
Anyways, Gyrokai... sounds to me you're a big Morales fan. I'm a big fan of his too. I cheered for him against Barrera. In my opinion, I think Barrera won the 1st fight and Morales won the 2nd and 3rd. Yes, I totally 180'd it. But that's the way I saw their trilogy.
And hey, EM beat Pac! That's why most pinoys love and respect him so much. Did you know Erik took a couple of vacations in the P.I. in less than 6 months after his trilogy with Pac?
I dislike Barrera coz he is a DIRTY fighter. But it's not too late for him to redeem himself. He's one of my favorite blood and guts warrior.
Here's more:
Edwin Valero and Humberto Soto, because they're the only ones that are threat to Pac (they're humble fighters too). But if they beat Pac, then my hat off to both of them for receiving Pac's torch.
Cheerio...

Interesting thread.
When I first saw Cotto, I said shiet this guy is ugly.
A friend actualy told me to take a look at him.
I am Mexican and when I learned he was Puerto Rican, I said there is no way I can like this guy. I then started watching him fight and I just enjoyed his consistency. He always showed me something new. I guess I appreciated how humble he was. After watching all of his pro fights, I was hooked. I got hooked pretty quick. One of the best body punchers in the game. I also enjoy seeing what a fighter looks like before he enters the ring with Cotto and what they look like after the fight is over. He really does a number on his opponents. There is a lot I like about this kid. The best is yet to come.
The person I would like to appreciate is PBF but I just can't for the fact that he has a big mouth. If he kept his mouth shut, he would be larger than life in more peoples eyes. Saying things like "I am better than Ali, Robbinson, Ray Leonard etc.. Is just a total turn off especialy when you have not had the wars these fighters had. Sure Floyd has his little legacy going up and fighting in 5 weight classes but he has not had the Leonards, Haglers, Duran's, Hearns of his career. He fought a lot of old dudes before retiring and it just leaves something to be desired. Where are his FOTY's? There are more reasons why I don't like this guy but I guess because he never fought the tough opposition before going out just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. He is not exciting above 147. He needs to un-retire and move back down to a weight where he has more pep to his pop and fight some young lions for a change.

Re: Is there a fighter you disslike but want to like?
It's gotta me JMM for me, he's a fantastic fighter and great to watch but I just cannot get behind him because of the Barrera fight, apart from Barrios who I think is completly washed up, I'll be behind his next opponent, be it Soto, Pacman, Guzman, Barrera II, like I said a great fighter but the injustice to one of my heroes Barrera will stick with me, and I can't help but dislike Marquez for that.

I really hate Oscar but a lot of times when I see his inteviews and such... He seems like a good person. So I guess his punk ass.

Re: Is there a fighter you disslike but want to like?
No one. The fighters I dislike. I dislike. I don't want to all of sudden start liking them. For what? If I wanted to like them, than I would of the from the beginning. No need to change things. Plus, I have a lot more fun disliking certain fighters, than if I were to like them.

You know yoits... I can relate to you...
I hated the crap out of SSM for years I couldn't stand him (for the ODLH fights) now I can't help it but respect him and appreciate his career more and see how talented he was in his prime. :)

Re: Is there a fighter you disslike but want to like?
For me its Arturo Gatti, for some reason I just don't like the guy and I'm probably the only boxing fan in the world who doesn't. I have no idea why, but I just plain don't like him.

Shit man,I can totally relate! I respect him and love some of his wars but I think he's become more and more of a punching bag! I just cannot relate.
MAB-I totally respect his skills but I just don't like him. I guess its because I'm more of an Erik Morales fan and usually,it's one or the other??
PBF-I'm a big fan of his talent but his stupidity is P4P number 1. Some of the comments that he makes are so fwocking stupid, they are embaressing. I don't like the fake gangster image. Calling himself GOAT is stupid too but like I said, his skills make me a semi-fan.

Re: Is there a fighter you disslike but want to like?

Great fighter, Pationate guy really came to fight, good image nice style..
But i could never be a consistant fan and route for him all the time because he is far too arrogant and egotistical

DannyG, you're Mexican? With you being such an avid Cotto fan, I would've never guessed. But I can totally relate to your statement that I highlighted. I'm Puerto Rican, and ever since I can remember the most fiery of rivalries have been between Puerto Rican and Mexican fighters. And this goes way back.
And the same way you're a Cotto fan, I've always been a big fan of fighters like Ricardo "El Finito" Lopez, and of Marco Antonio Barrera. I see these as completely classy fighters, who have done most of their talking with their fists, not their mouths. Matter of fact, I became an instant fan of MAB when he destroyed Naseem Hamed several years back. And although Lopez beat some highly regarded Puerto Rican fighters, such as Alex "El Nene" Sanchez, I can't help but be a fan of such a professional character.

Re: Is there a fighter you disslike but want to like?
Old school was Sugar Ray Leonard for me. Nowadays, its Jermain Taylor.

Re: Is there a fighter you disslike but want to like?
....it's getting close to being Jermain Taylor.
He hasn't been impressive in his last couple fights and he hasn't listened or learned anything from Manny

Yeah thats getting to the point with me too,he looked like he was going to tear through the middleweight division, now every fight looks like a safe attempt to win on points

Re: Is there a fighter you disslike but want to like?
He tries to hard to land the big shot....he just needs to let his hands go more...he had a great hook and he never uses it anymore
