Theres only 1 Ricky Hatton!!!! my views on future opponents!!
hatton is now a big playa in the boxing world and here are some of my views on future opponents
Miguel Cotto
This fight would be amazing, this is the fight i think the hardcore boxing fans would love and the general boxing fans would love, i would love this fight to happen. I think this fight will be happening but not for a few fights yet, could you imagine the support of both fighters it would be like Britain vs Puerto Rico, i could see this fight beeing very close and hatton edging out a split decision, this could potentially be the best fight in the last 20 years. They both have leaky defences but this just adds more intrigue to the fight, the winner of this fight would come down to who wants it more.
Floyd Mayweather
this fight would be a cat and mouse fight, they both are extremely fit and can impose there fighting styles for the whole 12 rounds, everybody can see what mayweather will do hit Hatton with pit-patter shots and dance away, i can see Hatton taking quite a bit of punishment in this fight and maybe have a few nasty cuts which he would have to be careful of because mayweather executes his shots to pin point accuracy, Hatton would be chasing Mayweather all over the ring, and without a doubt this would be mayweathers hardest fight, i can see this fight going either way it all depends on whos judging the fight i think personally. If Mayweather wants to be recognised as the best fight ever he will have to fight Ricky Hatton.
Shane Mosley
i think Mosley would try and box and mix it up with Hatton, Mosley still has a bit of his speed but fights in spurts if he wanted to beat Hatton if we would have to up the pace he has fought at in his last few fights. Mosleys best chance of winning this fight would be in the first 4 rounds after that he is in Hattons teritory. Maybe a couple of years ago he would have had Hatton in all sorts of trouble but at this moment in time i cant see him stopping the hitman, i could see Jack Mosley pulling his son out of this fight in the later rounds.
Oscar de la Hoya
i think oscar has 1 chance of beating Hatton and that is jumping in a time machine and rewinding back 5 years and fighting him, no disrespect to The Golden boy but on a serious note he doesnt have the fitness or speed anymore to keep Hatton off him, Oscar had problems in the last few rounds with his fitness agaisnt Mayweather imagine what he would feel like after 6 rounds of roughing it up with Hatton, i beileve the first few rounds would be very intresting as oscar is the naturally bigger man but as the fight goes on hatton stops him.
Paulie Malignaggi
i think paulie is a good boxer but lacks power i can see him maybe causing hatton a few problems but because of the lack of power hatton would walk threw him and tear him up, Hatton by late stoppage
Junior Witter
I can see this guy giving fits to anyone he fights his style is very unusual and i think he would give hatton alot of trouble, but this fight will never happen because hes not a big enough name in the states and Hatton is sick of the site of this boy, as he think the only reason Witter is quite well known is because he has been calling out Hatton all his career. If this fight did happen i think Hatton would win by a KO

Some nice analysis, i agree he is defintly a big player now, and the bookies make the Cotto fight favourite.
Rickys next fight:
Cotto 3/1
Maliggani 4/1
Mosley 6/1
Mayweather 7/1
I think Hatton should of got Cotto after KT at 140, then i think he would of won, but at 147 i dont think Hatton can apply the dictating presure he does at 140( basically doing what he wants on the inside) I think Cotto might be a little strong but while it lasted it would be great imo.

Re: Theres only 1 Ricky Hatton!!!! my views on future opponents!!
Well Hatton has said he only wants to fight for another 2 to 3 years so that gives him roughly 6 fights. It looks as though he's gona have to move up to 147 to get the names he wants, so i reckon he's going to need one tune up fight at the weight, and then its got to be either Cotto or Oscar?
i wouldnt like to put any prediction on a fight with oscar but with cotto it would be fairly close but i think Hatton would edge it if he's on his game.
If he did beat cotto in his next couple of fights i think that a match up with Mayweather would have to happen, through public demand. dont think hatton would win, but his style is made to beat Mayweather so there's a chance.

What are the odds of his next opponent being Ricardo Torres? If he beats Kendell Holt then that fight is a near certainty.
I'm sure the lure of another paper belt will prove to strong for Ricky to resist.

not to sure mate these names and prices were quoted on tv teletext, but do you think Torres wins that fight? Im not to sure, id give the egde to Holt, maybe Hatton will not move up? Mayeb he will try and dominate all comers at 140 for next few years?

Yeah I agree that Holt wins that fight if it happens, Torres is garbage. But I can practically gaurantee that Hatton's next fight won't be against a big name.
How the hell can Cotto be favourite for his next bout thats the dumbest bet ever seeing as he's in a different division and is already contracted to fight the winner of Margarito Williams ::**
De La Hoya Hatton will NEVER happen, Oscar ain't coming down to 147 let alone 140 and Ricky ain't moving up.
Mayweather will NEVER happen, Floyd's biggest threats are Cotto, Mosely and Oscar again, sorry to offend Hatton fans but he just ain't in Floyd's league. It's more likely that Floyd if he comes back heads to 160 and fights Taylor then moves down to fight Hatton imo.
Shane Mosely very unlikely to happen imo Shane would far rather go after Cotto, Floyd, Oscar again or even someone like Trinidad if he comes back. And in the meantime he'll probably fight Cintron and maybe the winner of Forrest Baldimor.
Malignnagi is the natural fight for Hatton at 140 lbs. Few would doubt his postion as bona fida number 2 light welter and his exciting quick hands style and flashy persona, not to mention the fact that HBO love him would make this a natural fight.
Witter possibly will happen sometime but that's a fight with nothing to gain and everything to lose for Ricky imo. Not a good matchup for him as even in victory it could still be an ugly fight that loses him fans.
So from the ones mentioned I'd say only Malignaggi is a likely option but I doubt Ricky will rush straight into it.
He's far more likey to try and get a legitimate belt first against the likes of M'Baye, Torres or Holt. An easy win then fight Malignaggi for the title of undisputed light welter weight champ.
The other possibilites are Casamayor and Juan Diaz moving up.
But the big names at 147, no chance whatsoever oh ever happening.

Re: Theres only 1 Ricky Hatton!!!! my views on future opponents!!
yea i agree weight is a big factor but alot of them are not generally natural fighters at that weight

Re: Theres only 1 Ricky Hatton!!!! my views on future opponents!!
The guy that started this post has Hatton beating everyone, what a fucking joke so what he beat JLC everyone with a set of fukin eyes saw JLC was a shot fighter i hate stupid analysis especially when people clearly knows nothing about matchups. Cotto, Mayweather, Shane and Delahoya can easily beat this guy remember fellas he has to come up 7 lbs.

I agree we have to remember that Hatton is dominating the division only because the better fighters all moved up.

Fanatics?? You just send in the same sentence on one hand he will never go up, but then contradict yourself? Mate Hatton went to 147 after prepering for a fight with a fight at 140 in mind, lets give him a second chance.

this fight would be a cat and mouse fight, they both are extremely fit and can impose there fighting styles for the whole 12 rounds, everybody can see what mayweather will do hit Hatton with pit-patter shots and dance away, i can see Hatton taking quite a bit of punishment in this fight and maybe have a few nasty cuts which he would have to be careful of because mayweather executes his shots to pin point accuracy, Hatton would be chasing Mayweather all over the ring, and without a doubt this would be mayweathers hardest fight, i can see this fight going either way it all depends on whos judging the fight i think personally.
Did you just say Mosley couldn't stop Hatton ???
Especially at 147 ??? And Hatton beating Shane down to where his father pulls him out?
I think the hugging for Hatton has reached its limit once I read that and all because he beat Castillo ???

Re: Theres only 1 Ricky Hatton!!!! my views on future opponents!!
i think at this moment in time he does stop mosley but a few years ago it would have been a different story

Re: Theres only 1 Ricky Hatton!!!! my views on future opponents!!
Hatton couldn't handle any of the elite fighters at 147. He is not proven at that weight. And the list begins with Sugar Shane Mosley.

Re: Theres only 1 Ricky Hatton!!!! my views on future opponents!!
........and continues with Miguel Cotto.
;)

Re: Theres only 1 Ricky Hatton!!!! my views on future opponents!!
This is just ridiculous how anyone thinks Hatto could bang with Cotto at 147lb. Anyone remember how Collazo had Hatton seriously dazed and confused and Collazo isn't even known to be a heavy puncher. Now just imagine what a puncher like Cotto would do...
end of story!

Re: Theres only 1 Ricky Hatton!!!! my views on future opponents!!
if your so sure cotto beats hatton bet your house on it, this is boxing and this is why everybody loves the sport because you can never tell what is gona happen next

Re: Theres only 1 Ricky Hatton!!!! my views on future opponents!!
I'm with you Plats, Hatton impressed greatly against a top opponent and it was obvious he lifted his game against Castillo. He would give Cotto a hell of a fight and it's one that must be made.
With all this critiscism of Hatton i notice he doesn't seem to lose to anyone!
As Jesse Ventura used to say " I'm impressed and i don't impress easy"

Miguel Cotto
This fight would be amazing, this is the fight i think the hardcore boxing fans would love and the general boxing fans would love, i would love this fight to happen. I think this fight will be happening but not for a few fights yet, could you imagine the support of both fighters it would be like Britain vs Puerto Rico, i could see this fight beeing very close and hatton edging out a split decision, this could potentially be the best fight in the last 20 years. They both have leaky defences but this just adds more intrigue to the fight, the winner of this fight would come down to who wants it more.

Where are these odds, cos Cotto is already signed to fight the winner of Margarito v Williams if I'm not mistaken.

That's ridiculous....what has ever happened to Shane Mosley to make you think something stupid like that???
Shane is still a top level fighter and he can still throw and take a punch.
There are honestly very few guys at 147 Hatton would have an easy time with IMO.

Is that in response to my post??? Because if it is perhaps you need to rethink that

Re: Theres only 1 Ricky Hatton!!!! my views on future opponents!!
Forrest is as shot as they get. the Baldomir fight will show that. But hell I don't think Hatton would make an easy time of anyone that big TBH. I was just making conversation.

I thought you meant that because Forrest beat Shane that Shane would be easy for Hatton to beat...sorry

cOolclick man. Yeah I usually don't disagree with you to any large extent on boxing topics. Politics perhaps.

Re: Theres only 1 Ricky Hatton!!!! my views on future opponents!!
I believe your giving the golden boy too little respect. i think he would prove a VERY tough fight for him....bear in mind the size difference, along with Oscar is probably more sound in every department bar workrate....and im a Hatton fan btw! Mayweather would still rip hattons face into shreads, but i can see Cotto being a VERY interesting matchup!
-
Re: Theres only 1 Ricky Hatton!!!! my views on future opponents!!
I don't know...Cotto is still reaching up to his prime and he's a hungry fighter....De la Hoya is a fed fighter, he's got money he has a lot of money he may not bring his A game to a Hatton fight.....he does fight hard but maybe the PBF fight showed that he doesn't really get up for the big fights like he should.
ODH could also blast Hatton out of the water....I don't want to sound biased either way but I favor Oscar .......ALOT....I like Ricky but ODH is a big guy he wouldn't be able to bully
-
Re: Theres only 1 Ricky Hatton!!!! my views on future opponents!!
Cotto would be a HUGE fight but also a big mismatch

hatton is 5'6 and he is built like a tank for 140 but that really is his natrual weight..
the more i think about it.. i think hatton should dominate 140 and take a shot at mayweather or de la hoya if he gets a chance at 147 (they sure as he!! arnt coming down to 140 thats fact)
but overall stay at 140.. get a belt against maybe torres(wbo) then it would be cool if malignaggi(ibf) fought m'baye(wba) for unification
then malignaggi(ibf, wba) champ and hatton(then wbo, ibo) could fight
a real meaningfull unification...
then maybe face floyd, cotto, or DLH in 2009
for another super, super fight
