Casamayor targets Hatton!
http://www.fightnews.com/fightnews_2...pzamnoSez.html
WBC interim lightweight champion Joel Casamayor, whom many including Fightnews.com rank as the world's #1 135-pounder, announced today he is willing to move up in weight and challenge IBO 140-pound champion Ricky Hatton or Floyd Mayweather. "I have waited patiently for all these so-called lightweight 'champions' to fight me," says Casamayor. "I challenged Juan Diaz at the Freitas fight, but he is hiding behind his promoter's skirt. I'm running out of patience waiting for this boy to grow into a man. Ricky Hatton says he wants big fights. I'll give up the weight and fight him. Floyd Mayweather says he wants big fights. I'll give up the weight and fight him – at any weight.""I respect Hatton, I respect Mayweather," says Casamayor. "I believe they are men, that they will fight. These other boys, these phony champions, they hide behind their managers and promoters and duck me. Since when does a true world champion have to chase his challengers? These other lightweights who have belts, they should be ashamed to call themselves champions." Casamayor is currently mandated to fight the winner of the Aug. 4 Erik Morales-David Diaz match. Casamayor says he will fight either man, but added there is no guarantee that the winner will simply duck him, as others have since his October win over Corrales. "I will fight anyone," emphasized Casamayor. "I gave up five pounds and beat Corrales. I'll do the same with Hatton. I'll give up any weight for Mayweather – let him name it. I am not going to go away. I'm a real fighter – a real champion – and I know someone will accept this challenge."

Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
hm.. might be interested in this one,
More than Paulie vs Hatton anyway
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
This could be Hattons best option in he's not moving up to WW.
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
could be interesting, but cas is getting on in yars aint u?
Would of thought this type of fight at the higher weight could be tomuch for him at thisstage of his career.
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
casamayor can target everyone, but he dont make money so the fights will not happen
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
Casamayor beat Chico Corrales 2 of 3 times and he's a good southpaw....it would make for a good fight.
As would Hatton-Diaz or Hatton-Freitas (I'd love to see Popo get KTFO after his last piss poor performance)
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
Casa can match Hattons strength and speed. And Casa is naturally bigger.
Slight advantage for Casa.
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
Lol..Casamayor is a great fighter..Good fighter..
But he talks crap..How has hatton ducked him..When casamayor was never an option to fight before..This is the only mention of wanting to fight hatton..
Let hatton fight him..Hatton wont loose

Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
Joels age could be a factor,he did not impress v a totally weight drained Corrales and he is too inactive. It would be a good fight,I'd favour Hatton but if Casamayor was able to hit top form,it would be really close. How much would the weight affect Joel's speed? How would Hatton handle a slick southpaw boxer>?

Good question.

Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
hold on.. people are saying Casamayor is a good fight and he would be moving up from 135 against Hatton who would bully him all night, Casamayor who is 36 and is not in his prime, not young, and didn't look too impressive in that third Corrales fight and people are saying this is a great fight for Hatton and a great step up, but Malignaggi calls out Hatton and people say Hatton has bigger fish to fry and that Malignaggi would be desimated when he is young a natural 140 pounder and won the title but they think a 36 year old moving up in weight casamayor is a bigger challenge or harder fight for Hatton ???
The bias here against Malignaggi is unbelievable
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
Casamayor has SOME power princess.....Paulie has nothing and he's easier to find than Joel
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
Wowsers! this would be a great fight but id lean towards Ricky at this point

Casa is B-hop of lower weight division. Don't under estimate Casa. Yeah is old but not worn-out yet.
He's a slick dirty fighter. He's got good head and lateral movements. He's a hard target.

He never said hatton ducked him, he was talking about the ABC wanna-be's at lightweight.
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
I never thought of this, that ould be great. I think Casamayor would beat Ricky, Hatton struggles with Southpaws and Casamayor has a good jab to stop Hattons body assault, he can bang (at lightweight) and has displayed his heart and bravery in the past. I'd still rather see Malignaggi-Hatton
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
I think what really needs to happen is Juan Diaz step up and fight Casamayor, like he should have done instead of fighting Popo. When we're talking about Hatton fighting (a) Cotto's leftovers (Malinaggi), (b) B-minus local fighters (Junior Witter), or guys who fight in lower divisions (Casa), I think it's time Hatton needs to get his ass up to 147. If an old Casamayor's willing to move up to fight Hatton, Hatton ought to be willing to do it to fight Mosley, Cotto or Mayweather. Unfortunately, my bet is that Witter is Hatton's next fight. And that Diaz's next fight is not Casamayor.

He hasn't been a hard target since the second corrales fight.

My mistake ;)
I skipped a line when i read it..It read something along the lines of..They are men..And have ducked me.. I put the bad english down to him being brazilian..Lol But no..i skipped an entire line..Lol

Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
If Hatton tried to hold too much he'd get a sure elbow to the face. I bet there would be at least two point deductions in the fight.
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
Nope this fight shouldnt happen.... If Hatton wins he gets NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO credit from the critics just like now after beating JLC, if he loses than the criticism would be like a plague of Locust... this would be the highest risk lowest to no reward fight he could take at this point in his career...
Let him and Mayweather exchange unpleasentries for the next few months until the fight is signed after colossal build up ;)
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
I'm not sure if this fight would be in Hatton's best interests either. His only options, imo, are Floyd,Paulie and Cotto,in that order.
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
This would be a bad fight for Hatton. Cuz he wouldn't win it.
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
You really shouldnt put a curse on Casamayor like that ;D

NICE!! Sig JT!!
Im no Big floyd fan ;)
But i do appreciate a bit of bling!
All them Wbc's is pretty to say the least :) :P

Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
Would rather see this fight than Hatton V Malignaggi.
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
I think Hatton will target Malignaggi, but I'd love to see him face Joel. That's the Jr Welterweight champion vs the Lightweight champion. Doesn't get much better than that! I'd pick Casamayor to win. But in saying that I also picked Castillo to win, so what do I know?
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
I've said before I wanted this one, but I thought it'd be a case of Casamayor not wanting to move up. If he is, Hatton should take it. It'd be another world class fight, and he can fight at 140lbs. It'd be interesting to watch the southpaw test, could be a tough one but it'd be a great one.
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
I saw this coming from a mile away, it's a pretty tough fight for Hatton and it's a very credible opponent, and another name on his record. I think Hatton would win very easily though so it'd be an ideal fight for the homecoming, Castillo beat Casamayor in a pretty close fight, but that was back when they were both in their primes, Imagaine what Hatton would do to him in September with his confidence what it is at the minute.

Looks like we might be getting it all signed up soon, I just hope Floyd lives up to all this talk cos Hatton will fight him, and beat his ass too.

Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
I'd just add this: Casamayor is getting up in age, and did not look terribly impressive against a completely shot Chico in his last fight. Yes, that fight was for the championship, and yes, Casamayor does not have the brawler-type style of Chico or JLC that makes guys get old overnight, but this fight would just set up more "so what, hatton beat a shot fighter who was in his prime nearly ten years ago" commentary. Let Casamayor get Juan Diaz in the ring--he deserves that fight as LW champ. And let Hatton fight a younger guy in his prime, like Paulie or the winner of Torres/Holt.

Dam man, thats 3 times I've said this in 2 days:excellent post. I agree,I think it is a lose lose situation for Ricky and I HIGHLY doubt he would take this fight. Although I think it would be an excellent clash of styles,as you stated,Hatton would not get any credit for winning. He is better off fighting Paulie at 40,Floyd/Cotto at 147.
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
Casamayor is a total waste of time.
The money's gonna be in Cotto & Floyd & Hatton will have to move up & give away some of his natural advantages.
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
I've always had huge respect for Joel Casamayor but Hatton is the wrong fight at the wrong time.
-
Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
the fight i wanna see is him and juan diaz
i personally think hatton dominate

Not quite sure how Casamayor is naturally bigger or can match Hatton's strength
Anyway, was anybody that impressed by Casa in the last Chico fight, Chico looked like a zombie. Casamayor did well enough to get the win but it wasn't that impressive to me. At this point in time I don't see how he would be able to match up with Hatton's strength and workrate. A better fight would be Juan Diaz.

Re: Casamayor targets Hatton!
Everybody wants a piece of Floyd's azz, wonder why dat is ??? Casamayor can be the scape path and still a good payday for Hatton! Ricky should think it over and don't commit suicide into the 147 lbs division, he has time to adjust and must outsmart Floyd's provocation and deadlines or else he's done - only Roberto Duran slugged his way in against a slick flashy better boxer in Ray Leonard in the Brawl in Montreal, Ricky can't do it and his career will be tarnished with no way back to the spotlight, take on Casamayor for now, Ricky!
