Mayweather to take Hatton bait
http://www.itv-boxing.com/News/Story...449823,00.html
Ricky Hatton's taunts may have had the desired effect and tempted Floyd Mayweather out of retirement.
After Hatton's stunning fourth-round stoppage of Jose Luis Castillo at the weekend, the IBO light welterweight champion challenged Mayweather to a multi-million-pound super-fight.
Both fighters are unbeaten, but Mayweather had previously insisted last month's victory over Oscar de la Hoya would be his final bout.
Now, Mayweather's adviser Leonard Ellerbe claims Hatton's jibes have paid off.
"He got Floyd's attention. Now we're calling his bluff," Ellerbe told the New York Daily News.
"All he has to do is make a deal and he'll have his chance to back up all that talk. All that's standing between him and Floyd is air and opportunity.
"We can make the deal this week. He's very, very disrespectful. He's trying to promote himself off Floyd's name.
"When we make the deal, we'll show the world why he's the most overrated fighter of this decade.
"Floyd has never taken any fight personally. But he's taking this personally. Floyd is going to kick his butt."
Ellerbe revealed Mayweather was far from impressed by Hatton's performance against Castillo at the Thomas and Mack Center, Las Vegas.
He said: "He said he only wants to fight the best - then sign the contract. Floyd's going to show all his fans in Britain just what a phoney he is."
I swear, if this happens, I may just shit my pants with excitement. Plus, I'd go out on a limb and pick Hatton for the win. I know it's against the odds, but I really believe in him. No point being a fan if you can't keep the faith.

Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
Any fight that keeps floyd in the ring is a good one. It's gonna be interesting to see if it really happens tho.
-
Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
It might still be a long way off, but if it does come off then Hatton wins this fight, he's got all the tools to break Floyd into pieces.
-
Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
I'm shoutin for Ricky as always.

he took the bait indeed... everyone knows hatton is a respectfull man and thinks highly of mayweather and thats indeed why he wants to fight him..
glad mayweather dont know that... or maybe he does, mayweather is great at selling fights... and i will always be a fan of his now since he wanted a fight w/ DLH again and DLH turned him down.. that would be a VERY DANGEROUS rematch for PBF that he didnt have to take but he is the one that challenged... major props to mayweather
hattons pressure will affect PBF more than what people think...
i hope hatton floors him w/ a body shot to finally shut the haters up..

Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
if Mayweather is the very best p4p then Hatton should fight him , and even if he looses badly wots the shame in that ???
Hatton has nothing to loose at all , and if he could win then wow name your price :)
-
Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
Hatton feel's this is a winnable fight, he has wanted this fight for a while now regardless of what people believe. If he prepared that hard for Castillo, i cant wait to see him prepare for mayweather.
-
Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
If you're a hatton fan you gotta belive in your boy..and you'll have tons of people with you. Most people are fans of whoever pbf fights cause they don't care if hatton, cotto whoever wins they just want pbf to loose so bad !! I give the current flavor of the month cotto a better chance than hatton but i don't see either of them winning...but the one good thing about boxing is anybody that get's in there has a chance....well sorta.
-
Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
So many people feel its a winnable fight... until they get in the ring. I can't believe Hatton said his fight with Castillo was more exciting than Mayweather's whole career... he's turning into a douche.

I don't think he meant that for anything else than to coax Floyd onto the mat.
He knows that a handful of good fights don't top him over Floyd...Floyd is just the man to beat & he needs to get into the ring with him to acquire greatness...I aint ever seen Floyd's wife/gal friend...but if I wanted to fight Floyd...I'd say I stooped the bride if that's what it took to get him to sign a contract. ;D

Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
I wont this to happen desperately
-
Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
:o i thought this moment had passed! Will be VERY VERY excited if it comes off tho....Mayweather will outbox Ricky though!
-
Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
I can almost guarantee that once this fight is made, Hatton will show nothing but respect for Mayweather. The fact is, he had to do something to get him in the ring, and if the odd sly remark helped him to do so, then I'm sure he did it as a means to an end as opposed to actually believing it. Hatton is undeniably a class act and apart from Witter, I don't believe he really dislikes anybody tbh.

I've stocked up on toilet paper myself!!

Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
What weight would it be at? I give Hatton a chance at 140, but 147 or even 154, not a shot in hell.

Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
Mayweather would have his way with Hatton. Hatton would as competitive as Jesus Chavez or as non-competitive as Arturo Gatti. Either way he ain't winning it.
-
Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
Hatton may show respect when the contract signed but Floyd will completely assault Hatton verbally you can guarantee it. Floyd is far too skillful boxing wise for Hatton is a bit one dimensional as he just come forward throws a few shots and holds. He will try that shit all night and Floyd ll counter him. The big difference in this fight aint speed, strength or stamina, its skill and intelligence. If Floyds in trouble he will just change it up and try something new whereas Hatton has plan A and if that dont work hes screwed.
Mayweather will win by UD and wont get any credit like usual but hell at least he gets to expose a guy who thinks hes a lot better than he is.

Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
Even if Hatton did get spanked by Mayweather, he'd still gain more fans than Floyd in the process. The only reason people turn on a mayweather fight is because his opponents are worth cheering for. The dude is boring. He beat the pants off Gatti and Gatti still has more respect. Floyd is a great boxer, no doubt about it, but he'll never be a RJJ, Chavez, Ali, Tyson, Foreman, etc...

Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
IS Floyd Mayweather going to be on the Cover of EA sport Fight Night Round 4? ;D I hope so!!

Sure Gatti may have more respect as a person, but as a fighter? No matter how PBF acts outta the ring u cannot disrespect his boxing ability! If Hatton got spanked he wouldnt gain fans, what a ridiculous comment, heaps of people would jump off the bandwagon.
-
Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
yea hopefully fight night rd 4 will have Mayweather in the game rd 3 kinda sucked as it had a lack of the top tier fighters for whatever reason. How can you call Mayweather boring Entragian? What he does is technically superb, if you were a true fan of boxing you would respect Floyd for the level of skill he display s, any fool with a good chin can go toe to toe but not every fighter can slip shots, put up a water tight defense and throw counter like Floyd can. A lot of people criticise Floyd for his negativity but when you go up in weight so much you aint gonna stand and trade with the bigger man especially when you can get the win in a much easier way when risk getting K.Oed when you can completely outclass your opponent and use your advantages in the most effective and efficient way?

I've read some silly stuff during my days here in the joint...but trust me...that was just a REALLY REALLY SILLY statement. ;D

Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
how the hell can a guy who plays the role of human punch bag to the elite fighters have more respect that Mayweather? Sure Gatti has been in some wars and come out on top but when he's been up against the best hes looked way out of his depth. Gatti may have a lot more fans than Floyd but respect not on your life

Re: Mayweather to take Hatton bait
IMO, this fight wouldn't even be competitive. Let's not forget how Hatton was rocked by Collazo at 147lb whereas Collazo isn't known as a hard puncher. I'm not saying Mayweather is known as a hard puncher but he would brutally punish Hatton...it won't even be close. The next fight for Mayweather should be the winner of Cotta vs Margarito/Williams as these fighters are LEGITMATE 147lbs'ers...Hatton has no business at 147lbs, especially against a fighter like Mayweather.

Mayweather knows what he is doing. Hatton is a good fighter but Mayweather knows that Hatton is in the news now and he is smaller and Mayweather's style would beat him. It is a good opponent for Mayweather and for Hatton. Even if Hatton is outboxed so what. Alot of guys get outboxed by Mayweather. It is a win win for both at this point.

Another stupid comment. How the hell can you judge Hatton's whole 147lbs future on a fight he was ill-prepared for against a fucking southpaw?

I know you all probably hate me by now but i've been sitting here trying to get hyped up for a possible hatton pbf showdown and i just can't.....i don't see how people can justify a guy beating basically only kosta tszyu and a tired looking castillio as the next big thing...last week it was cotto now all of suddon hatton..is it just whoever wins the current week that qualifies....don't get me wrong i'm not trying to be and asshole i really just don't see what everyone else here see's, if all this talk was about mosely i could understand a little bit better but these guys i just don't see the excitment of another gatti type fight based more on hype than the actuall opponet.....help me belive !!!

Gatti and Hatton are similar, except Hatton is better in almost every single way. Tszyu was not shot before their fight and was high in the P4P list when Hatton STOPPED him. Castillo was not anywhere near his best, but based on his performance against him, could Hatton beat him if he was at his best? Given the 4th round knockout I'd say undoubtedly yes.

DO you see Mayweather ever show up poorly? He is way smaller than Hatton naturally and he has foughten at higher weights than Hatton has ever foughten at. Collazo isn't as fast, skilled, or hit as hard as Mayweather.

first, i am not agreeing w/ the statement but...
i think malignaggi gained a little respect/popularity in the cotto fight
i can see where he is coming from to a point, but his extreme bias towards certian fighters and against mayweather makes his statement irrelevant

if collazo would have been 140 it would have largely been the same fight.. collazo is a slick south paw that style makes most look bad ..
collazo fought good; hatton fought bad... it as simple as that...
hatton might not beat floyd, but people are acting like because hatton and collazo fought at 147lbs is the biggest reason for hatton not having a good fight
hattons's problems w/ collazo has nothing, or little, to do with weight..
i think if anything that fight shows hatton has problems with good slick fighters (which against mayweather is a big problem) not 147lb fighters
