Even the most classy show acts of desperation
I was compiling my Barrera compilation for a short video when i was reminded of how dirty and desperate he'd become when he was being beaten by Pacman...
first the intentional headbutt, then hard right hand on the break in round 9...man marco was really beaten phyically and mentally....i hated watching that because i love to watch marco, but then again i love watching pacman too..

Duran overated? I'd have understood if you'd have said Roy Jones Jnr post 168 days.

Re: Even the most classy show acts of desperation
Marco was a rough tough gun slinger of a fighter before he was a savvy boxer. Sometimes the origins of a fighter show up in his most desperate moments. In a way what Marco did draws admiration because he showed a will to win, whereas other fighters in moments of desperation will lay down or fake or exagerate fouls.
Oh Ya!!!! Thats a Classic HitmanDonny post right ther...Praisin Barrera and dissin Zab Judah. I love it!

I can attest to that. My cousin Frankie fought Barrera whe he was more of a rough bralwer and he made it a whopping 2 rounds. Barrera deserves all the praise he receives, and is FAR from overrated.

Re: Even the most classy show acts of desperation
Yes Marco was over rated..........................................if over rated in your language mean GREAT FIGHTER ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
youll be saying next Mayweather has class when interviewed ;D ;D ;D ;D
or Joe Calzaghe has fought all the best fighters for years ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
or perhaps Ricky hatton is a tanned greek god ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yeah because Roy JOnes Jr. didn't unify the LHW division, and is considered in the top 5 in that division ever then go up to heavyweight and beat a guy 30 pounds heavier than him. I think to say Duran is overrated is also stupid, but maybe your making a point :alcoholic:

Oh god, add another to the list of Naz excuses. Naz got beat by Barrera because Barrera's the better fighter.
The only one I haven't heard yet is that Naz was drugged.

Duran is an absolute 1000000000000000% legend. barrera is an average overhyped boxer.

I know he is that's why he only beat one great fighter(srl)...but i guess that qualifies rahman, mccall, tarver, montell griffith, ruiz, and the list goes on.....
Duran padded his record then moved up and lost that doesn't make him great..just makes him tough...and no one said he wasn't one of the toughest fighters ever...
but if barrera is overrated, then Duran is the most overrated ever next to tyson....

DURAN beat a peak leonard. beat an unbeaten moore to win his third title and outpointed a big middleweight in barkley to win his fourth title. Hardly padding his record.

Ok, that proves my point. Out of all the thousands of fighters in history, there were only 13 people who you could think of right away that were 3 division champs. Duran, Leonard, Whitaker, Jones, Hearns, Mayweather..... that's pretty exclusive company if you ask me. I'd say all those guys were better than "average."
I'm not even a Barrera fan, but he is a great fighter and a no-doubt Hall Of Famer.
-
Re: Even the most classy show acts of desperation
even barkley won titles in three divisions and he won a version of the heavyweight title.
-
Re: Even the most classy show acts of desperation
Seriously SEANIE - if you think all this about Barera you must be more clueless than LAWHOOPS ;)

I know it's not like he named "nobody's" that virtual who's who of boxing..and to be in that company is great in itself..
and i'll add mosley and trinidad..and mention that i believe the greatest fighter ever only won in two divisions....

No! but Norton did arguabley 3 times!!! All gr8 fighters have a Nemesis, styles make fights and all that!
PAC was simply the better fighter on the night - but would love to have seen that fight before MAB's wars with Morales ( neither MAB or Morales were the same after those fights)
Weigh up his achievements against his very few ' bad nights' the guy as just about as good as it gets imo

i just don't see how barrera is overrated, but duran isn't..but then again maybe one can't see why i think duran is overrated and barrera isn't....
my point about duran is, he was ATG but top 10 p4p is ridiculous..
I get your point he did lose to the great manny pacquioa and lost to a good junior jones.
the only way for him to be considered great he would have had to beat juarez, tapia, morrales, ayala, kelley, hamed, mckinney..wait, he did beat them....with those fights alone his record would be
9-3 against fighters from the unanimous "*non-bum" category...which makes his winning percentage 75% against absolutely unquestionable opponents..which is more than i can say for Duran...
*"non-bum" - means everyone would vote 100% that this fighter isn't a bum and is at least a good fighter...

He beat some decent opponents, but that dont make him a legend. tapia was finished and barrera could only beat him on points.

First Barrera was only average, now you're saying his opponents were decent!! Erik Morales says hello.
