Punch stats for Castillio fight say Hatton has chance against Mayweather.
Against Castillio Hatton threw 220 punches and landed 81 over 4 rounds and won by KO.
Against Mayweather ODLH threw 587 punches and landed 122 over 12 rounds and lost a split decision.
In his last fight Mayweather came very close to lossing and in some peoples eyes he did lose.
Hatton is a much better pressure fighter than ODLH is and throwes a lot more punches and works the body much better.
A lot of peole have said that Hatton would struggle with Mayweathers movement but I dont think it would be as much of a problem as some think.
Hatton wont have to look to make room for his punches as Mayweather will keep it at a distance. When Mayweather goes to the rope as he has done in his last few fights I think Hatton could do more damage than ODLH and Baldmire did put togther. He wont let Mayweather have his little rests as he normoly does on the ropes. If he goes to the ropes Hatton will make him pay for it.
Also watch for Mayweather bitching and complaining like a girl about being roughed up on the inside.
I am not saying that I think Hatton will definitaly win but I think he has a very good chance.

Re: Punch stats for Castillio fight say Hatton has chance against Mayweather.
Mayweather certainly isn't going to knock Hatton out. He's in for it.
-
Re: Punch stats for Castillio fight say Hatton has chance against Mayweather.
I think it basically comes down to the referee.....if it's jay Nady, hatton may aswell not bother showing up......if it's Joe Cortez, he has a decent shot.

I just watched ODLH-Mayweather this morning and it wasn't even a close fight. Also ODLH is a lot better than Hatton.

You make some good points

Re: Punch stats for Castillio fight say Hatton has chance against Mayweather.
The De La Hoya fight was close but ODLH are different fighters

Agreed. PBF/Oscar was a split decision because it was Oscar, period. Neither Hatton nor anyone else is gifted rounds like that. I don't see any way this fight would end as anything other than a very wide UD for Floyd (though I guess a KO is not totally out of the question, since Ricky's actually in Floyd's natural weight class). Oscar De La Hoya's punchstats certainly provide no reason to think otherwise.
-
Re: Punch stats for Castillio fight say Hatton has chance against Mayweather.
Also things you forgot to mention Pork. Dela Hoya was only landing 21% of his punches, and he has much faster hands than Hatton, but not only that but Hatton threw 220 in almost four rounds when Oscar was throwing about 200 every 4 rounds against MAyweather, this is important for three reasons
1. Castillo is much easier to get a high punch count against than against Mayweather who moves
2. Hatton lately tends to throw less as the fight progresses.
3. He wasn't getting hit by heavy rights that made even the iron chined ODLH and Baldomir think twice before just walking in on Mayweather.

1) This argument makes no sense.. Who do you think is harder to hit...an inside fighter (castillo) or an elusive defensive fighter (floyd)? Comparing someones ability to hit castillo means nothing on their ability to hit mayweather.
If anything you could make an argument that hatton would connect 50-75% less if fighting mayweather then what he connected on castillo.
2) Floyd won the dlh fight by a landslide...did you even watch it?
3) Who do you think hits harder, Oscar or Hatton?
4) If a fight goes the distance hatton's punch output would decrease sharply in the mid-later rounds.

I agree that the referee would play a huge part in the fight, but I still see mayweather winning no matter what. Some refs would allow hatton to have more success then others.
** Well Taeth I see you beat me to my points, I spent too long typing mine:

I'm not sure what these punchstats prove, other than the fact that Mayweather is a great defensive fighter, and Castillo isn't.
-
Re: Punch stats for Castillio fight say Hatton has chance against Mayweather.
I don't think you can look at the punchstat numbers and equate that to Hatton having a chance. This comes down to style, and as much as I dislike Floyd, he is way too technically sound for Hatton. He'd give Ricky a boxing clinic and it wouldn't be close.

Quite a lot when it SUITS. They showed how Castillo beat Floyd the first time round didnt they?

Re: Punch stats for Castillio fight say Hatton has chance against Mayweather.
Punchstats mean fwock all.
-
Re: Punch stats for Castillio fight say Hatton has chance against Mayweather.
It was one of the first things Floyd said in his interview after the ODLH fight. Like I said, when it suits.

I think you're misreading my post.... I agree punchstats can prove some things, but I don't see how these stats prove that Hatton has a chance against Floyd, which is the title of this thread.
-
Re: Punch stats for Castillio fight say Hatton has chance against Mayweather.
But you said "I'm not sure what these punch stats prove" now you say "I agree punchstats can prove some things"
Do you see?
-
Re: Punch stats for Castillio fight say Hatton has chance against Mayweather.
If your not sure what they can prove, how can you be sure they prove anything?

This is exactly what I meant when I said you're misreading my post.
I said those stats don't prove anything OTHER than the fact that Mayweather is a great defensive fighter and Castillo isn't. The stats do seem to prove that, because stats can show certain things.
But I don't see where the listed stats do anything to support the opinion of the thread starter, that Hatton has a chance against Floyd. How do those posted punchstats do anything to support Hatton's chances against Floyd?

Don't worry about the thread starter we went off topic and I still dont understand your posts.
"I'm not sure what these punch stats prove" now you say "I agree punchstats can prove some things"How is that misreading? Your saying two completely different things.

The post you were thoroughly confused by was one where I was directly responding to words typed by the thread starter. Nothing was off-topic.

I was not confused, your just playing with words. You totally said two completely different things and now your bringing up the initial post for backup to defend your contradictory posts. Go ahead

If Hatton walked through Koysta shots I dont think he will be to botherd by mayweathers.

Are you using your brain? He said that punches stats can be used to prove things, but in this context they are invalid because its two different set of fighters in two tactically different fights.
