Can Jeff Lacy be the man he was against Reid again???
I'm sure that the Calzaghe demolishing has took everything out of Lacy and it showed in his return match against Vitali Tsypko with a narrow Majority decision which I thought he was VERY lucky to get the win.
I'm just concerned with the lack of fights and no news on Lacy whether he can be the same fighter like he was against Reid, Pemberton etc or has the Calzaghe defeat taken it all out of him.

Re: Can Jeff Lacy be the man he was against Reid again???
His last poor showing was entirely down to the shoulder injury...I certainly hope that lacy becomes a force again. Despite his representation in the media before the Calzaghe fight i think Jeff is a genuinely nice guy and could potentially be great for the sport of boxing.

Re: Can Jeff Lacy be the man he was against Reid again???
I dont think he was that good before Calzaghe if anything he could get better he's still young enough to turn it all around

Re: Can Jeff Lacy be the man he was against Reid again???
He's walking around at 195 tho?!!!! Perhaps at a higher weight?

Lacy just needs ref Raúl Caíz and another shot fighter like Reid, then he will do just well. Do not put him against any top 25 smw, then he will look very limited as he is....

Nobody was saying Lacy ahem "wasnt all that good" prior to the fight.
Revisionism ???

When i made this comment it was'nt a dig at Calzaghe i was just saying he was'nt that good before he fought Calzaghe look how he struggled with Sheika if he was that good he would have wiped floor with him.Not everything i say about Calzaghe is negative and should'nt be taken negative.

Re: Can Jeff Lacy be the man he was against Reid again???
oh i think he can. after that shoulder injury he should be back to the old jeff
-
Re: Can Jeff Lacy be the man he was against Reid again???
Lacy definately needs to work on his defense.
Calzaghe exploited that like a wolverine in heat.
His last fight it's understandable that his shoulder was hurt,
but look at his past fights and tell me he isn't wide open
for shots.
I am by no stretch of the imagination trying to say he isn't
a great boxer, nor do I have any intention of degrading the
Calzaghe win over him, but let's be realistic he is a guy that
relies on his power and not his defense, against the top guys
in the division, he will have a hard time.

I never thought he was as great as people made out i see him struggle with Sheika and few others it was big win for Calzaghe but with hindsight i don't see why we can't say he wasn't as good as people thought but i never thought he was great anyway he was decent fighter with good power and thats all i see in him and im not trying to take anything away from Calzaghe or Lacy but it is pretty true if you think about it.

Re: Can Jeff Lacy be the man he was against Reid again???
I hope he can come again, he looked dominant until the shoulder went, that ucked him up more than just physically, he was like a little boy lost after that.
Other than Calzaghe Kessler I would still make him 50/50 with most SMW.
-
Re: Can Jeff Lacy be the man he was against Reid again???
The only way he can be the same man he was against reid would be if he fought reid again.
Simple as that.....reid was shot to pieces, did no sparring, had a duff ref to deal with and got cuffed to defeat.
Lacy was one big hype machine
You know how bad the hype was? People at my work...just regular sports fans were saying things like 'calzaghe is going to get knocked out' and i simply asked 'how many jeff lacy fights have you seen?'
Guess what the answer was?
Zero
I respect lacy for his heart and especially the determination he showed that night.....but the guy is a pretty average, one-dimensional fighter. Gary Shaw is one deluded man.
-
Re: Can Jeff Lacy be the man he was against Reid again???
They were saying that because they were paying attention to the many 'experts' who said Lacy would flatten him.
Theres nothing wrong with being one dimensional, as long as it works for you. Up until Calzaghe it was working for Lacy, so much so that the majority of people picked him to win.
For evey person that said Joe would win, there were ten saying the opposite, sure your friends at work got it wrong, but so did the people in the know who they were listening to or reading.

Yeh i know, the point i was trying to make is how quickly hype gathers momentum and i honestly think a lot of so called experts are desperate to find a new mike tyson.....that's what led to the lacy situation.

Re: Can Jeff Lacy be the man he was against Reid again???
Lacy will be back, and hopefully will be fighting Manfredo Jr., whom he will KO. Far as the Reid fight goes, it was impressive win for Lacy I remember, but I was impressed with Reid's toughness too. He kept gettin knocked down and beaten up and on about th 2nd or third knockdown, he was down on one knee, looked over at his corner, smiled, winked, and got up for more. Thats a tough dude, when your world is crashin down around you and you're takin a hell of an ass whippin to be cool about it, that tough. Ya gotta admire that shat. 8)

You can't say that Foreman was much harder hitter than Cooper yet Cooper was the one who decked Ali.
Tyson was much harder hitter than Bert Cooper yet Tyson couldn't floor Holyfield or really budge him yet Cooper had Holyfield all over the place and down.
Styles make fights.

Re: Can Jeff Lacy be the man he was against Reid again???
Lacy is as good as he is going to get. And it's not very good
