OK Experts...Training Part Deux
So i'm back and i'm fit. I'm superbly confident now every time i step into the ring and have just a few glitches to work out before september.
However, my issue is one of far less importance. I'm skinny as hell and i wanna be ripped dammit!
Can any of u guys advise me a good all round workout to use in co-ordination with my boxing to make me look the shit? CC's to all helpful replies

Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
Check out the basic plan that I drew up for Abbadon. Basically the diet is to prevent your body from having surges of the hormone insulin, what this means in plain English is that you're eating more food at a particular time and your body can't use all of it for energy, therefore it turns into the chubbles that you've come to live with. This is a big problem if you're used to the 3 square meals a day plan. Expand this to 5-6 meals a day and you'll be on your day to getting ripped. Also check out the advice I made in Abbadon's thread, the same can apply to you.
Basically what this boils down to is eat right, eat at the right times during the day, and gradually reduce excess calories from your daily intake. "Gradually" is the word that you want to keep in mind. Say for instance you start cutting calories and working hard day in and day out you'll probably lose weight and it will be muscle. That's why you gotta listen to your body and take things slow.
Another thing that I had mentioned in Abbadon's thread is the hormone Leptin, basically he's the guy that tells your body that it's not starving. If he's not satisfied you'll be packing on fat and burning muscle instead. If you are cutting calories you don't want your body to confuse this with starvation so to fix this once during the week you increase the amount of carbs that you can eat for just that one day. This will maintain your Leptin levels therefore your body won't go into starvation mode.
As for exercise you still gotta take this one step at a time. The kind of exercise you do can determine how high your metabolism is going to be for the day. I'll keep referring back to Abbadon's thread for you, you're going to have to find out what things that you're doing throughout the day and think of how you can improve them. You can improve your morning roadwork so your metabolism will be higher. Interval training is a good way to go. And besides working in intervals of intensity to burn off fat, you can work in intervals to improve your boxing. Say for instance you're working on the bags, you can try a different tactics/moves for each different round, this can apply to anything you can think of.
It only works if you keep doing it.

You probably have too much salt in your diet, this causes your body to hold on to more water. If I was doing any hard labor jobs during this summer I'd either take a salt pill or eat a high sodium diet so I don't sweat myself dry. Look at the lables on cans and packages you might find that many of them are loaded with salt.

Ahhh crunches are a series that target specific areas of your abs
http://www.ast-ss.com/training/exerc...asp?bp=Ab&pn=8
Since Im being lazy about describing, this was the best link I could find
-
Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
Sit-ups are a good exercise but there's more you can do. You can do crunches if you want to hit the top abs, or lay on your back and lift your legs up which will hit your bottem abs. If you are really feeling froggy you can get a pull-up bar and do straight leg raises from there. It's killer, you'd have to work up to it. You can also work your obliques (sides) by twisting when you do situps, or by doing side bends.
You can also make your situps harder by using an incline bench, and by contracting your abs harder and the whole time that you're doing them. It's crazy how much the abs have to do with. If you cough, sneeze, poop, or punch your abs are always involved. They also protect the spine.

Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
Good luck regardless
When Holmes went up to the Poconos to spar with Ali for the first time, the champ caught him.Holmes refused any treatment for it,and it made a hell of a shiner,he wanted to be able to go back to Easton and say "Ali did that"

Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
Wow! That was an eye opener....I really enjoyed it, its a great way of keepin active in the off season and i think il do it some more....But really wow! I was in the ring with a decent pro and i did well....And although neither of us were going flat out or anything i looked better. He whipped my ass the first minute but then i jus jabbed the remaining rounds and it kept connecting....Wow....I'm a lil dizzy hehe Actually i'm a lot dizzy hehe
-
Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
That's awesome. Imagine What it would be like if you were his regular sparring partner.
-
Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
He'd probably be a lot more aggresive. They asked me back...anytime i like. He'll be training every day so anytime i like for sparring. I'm being very hesitant with my punches, not throwing in combination but i reckon i was just intimadated a little. I loosened up in the last round.
I'v got a million miles to go before i turn pro.

Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
If you want to become better improve your level of competition. That's what's sparring is supposed to do for you, not just getting used to fighting the same gym rat over and over, but fighting different fighters, and better sparring partners. Just don't come out the ring feeling like you've been hit by a truck.

:) You did good. How was the pocket money?
-
Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
Pocket money? ;D €40 for 5 rounds.....thats about 50 us dollars i think. I'm goin again this evenin!! :D I owe u a CC trainerMonkey. Here ya go.
It was so cool, the guy i'm sparrin has only like 8 pro fights, but i walked into my normal little gym and there were all these guys around FOR him. To do anythin his coach wanted.
And as for the ring work, he was doin stuff i haven't even been told about yet!

Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
That's awesome mate. Don't be afraid to share your experiences.

Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
I wouldn't worry too much about looking ripped, look at CAlzaghe , he hasn't got any fat on him but his muscles just don't show that much,
People don't realise how much genetics plays a role in how you will look even if you work out, some people just don't and can't get that ripped up 6 pac look , im one of them.
So basically you might be near your optimum shape already, it's just genetics preventing you aesthetically looking how you want

Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
donny, did you you spar him again?
-
Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
Are you able to make a vid of it next time? Or are they worried about opponents seeing it?
Sounds like it'd be good to watch :)

Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
Hey, sorry havent replied sooner! To Chris ya i spar him regularly now, yesterday was a really tough session! He's very slick, makes u think he's throwing, makes u react and THEN throws. He's good thats for sure.
POOM: The frustrating thing is that i have an excellent physique, its just impossible to retain. 2 weeks training and i look the part, but i can lose it overnight!!!! It really is amazing!
I'll try video some sparring tonight Sharla, Theres a few other pros training with us now too, They'll all be Boxing on the John Duddy undercard July 23rd/24th in Dublin.
I personally am really happy with my fitness, im really on a high!
My trainer, who's a brutally honest kinda guy, was even remarking on my condition! I'm one happy Hitman ;D

Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
hey up love
i asked my fella about his one
him being a boxer and trainer
and ripped really well(i hardly notice it anymore though lol so there's a helpful hint for u )
he said it really does have a lot to do with genetics
he's had his since secondary school and hardley does sit ups etc.....
he just has minimal body fat etc...
you cant make the abdo muscles so huge that they show through anything water body fat all play a part
i'll send you a pic through email hitman
-
Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
sounds like pure water retention as most have said then,
google for some herbal things to reduce that if it realy bothers you , but not that much you can do , some just retain water more than others, it sucks

This must be a big step up in sparring than what you're used to. That's great. Besides it keeping you alert there's a lot that you can learn. Will you also be sparring with the other pros there?
-
Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
cc Chris i haven't bin on in a while n i reckon i owe u a few. No il just be sparring with him, It's not a pro gym it's a training camp before this big pro show next month. All the other pros there are heavies. The sparring is just a totaaly different expieience, my defense which has been a weak point in the past has been pretty easily exposed and is coming on in leaps and bounds. My hands are always held up correctly now. On the attack, which has always been my great strong point. I have to work a lot harder to hit him and quickly have to return to defense. It really is a complete schooling. Yesterday was a fantastic session, Again i failed to get video but i will next day i promise
-
Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
cc Back. That's nice,You'll get better once you have a feel and good idea of what he does. If you're not too busy working out, it's also a good idea to watch the other pros sparring sessions. You can then ask yourself whym, what, and how they're fighting a particular way. You can observe how they are thowing their jab, how they're moving, how do they defend, etc. Besides learning from watching fights on TV you can learn a lot from watching fights anytime you get the opportunity to do so.
Anyways I'm sure it's tough, but this is a great learning experience for you. I'd like to check out some video of your sparring if you can manage.

Re: OK Experts...Training Part Deux
I will get some no doubt.
I watch a lot of boxing, not just fight at present iv gotta a pretty large collection of amateur and pro fights and i try to adopt little bits that i like.
I will record a bit of the sparring the next night not only so u can see me, but theres also this heavyweight pro 8-0 with 6 ko's getting OWNED by a amateur superheavy thats jus spectacular to watch every time they spar.

A vid will be good to see - you've got me curious with the written commentary. :)
I know what you mean about the brutally honest trainer thing - one of the coaches in my gym is like that - he entertains himself by coming up with as many comical insults as possible and practically never smiles.
Funny thing is he's more committed to us than everyone else in the gym put together and I know he's secretly a big softie underneath who loves us all to death. I've even seen the odd tear well up which he tries to hide.
I know that on the rare occasion he's happy with me I've done something good :) He's the type of person I really want to try hard for (aswell as myself) - not because of the insults but the care factor that's behind them. :)
