Joe Calzaghe could fight antonio Tarver if his unification clash against Mikkel Kessler hits the rocks. American TV giant HBO is reluctant to cough yp the danes £2.5 million purse. Now IBO lght-Heavy weight chanp Tarver, 38, who appeared in Rocky VI tops the list of likely replacements.

Calzaghe and Kessler need to sign the freaking contract and put an end to all this BS.

Calzaghe versus Traver may have peaked some interest if Tarver did not get (for a lack of a better word) Owned by Bernard Hopkin's. Any momentum he had gained as a top fighter in the world after the Roy Jones wins and Rematch win over Glen Johnson went out the window. Tarver is now back to being an over rated fighter who can beat the B-Tier with ease
I don't think Kessler vs Calzaghe was ever close to being made and sad thing is it probably will never happen.
I really hope calzaghe doesn't fight tarver, he's a name but he looked awful against Muriqi, Calzaghe would easily beat him at this stage of the game.
yep it is sad. Palle said that He has an agreement with Warren, its not signed yet and that they are waiting for HBO. It seems that Warren want HBO to pay 5mil $, since he have the TV right, Palle is not involved in the negotiations.
I have no idea if this is a fair amount or if Warren is pushing it to the limit. But since HBO is located in US and the boxers are from Europe maybe it is to much.
Anybody had dealings with Palle knows its hard work.
Tarver is just an old name now he's had his day can't believe were in july Calzaghe last fought at begining of april and he's no closer to getting a fight made and Manfredo has fought twice since.I know Calzaghe hurt his hand but still this is abit bad good job he did'nt keep his july date or he would have been very lonely it that ring with nobody in opposite corner.
This really needs to be a wind up, cause the only one I'm really interested in seeing is Calzaghe v Kessler, and anything else that gets produced will be a disappointment. A couple of years ago when Tarver was at the top of the game, maybe, but now this fight has very little interest for me.
We should consolidate these in to a thread titled "Calzaghe To Fight Antonio Jones Taylor Kessler Jr In Bulgaria" and then we can all be shocked when he fights Berrio in Wales ;D
Berrio would be better than Tarver i know he has about 4 losses all stoppages i think but i think he has 26 wins 25 by KO this would be better than Calzaghe vs Tarver Tarver is just a name or even try and get Froch.

I wouldn't be surprise to see Calzaghe and Warren turn to Tarver as an opponent. He's in his late 30's and has looked bad recently. That pretty much makes him perfect for Calzaghe to fight. Why face a young fighter in his prime like Kessler when he can face an older fighter (Tarver) who's less of a threat? It's been the same pattern through out Calzaghe's career.

they are two of my fav fighters.. but if they dont get this deal done they wont be for long....
but again i think both of them know how important it is for them to make this fight and i say the fight will happen...
people keep acting like kessler or calzaghe is pulling out or its there problem for some reason... and if the fight does happen those same people i'm sure wont give kessler, calzaghe any credit for doing what it takes to get the fight....

And Calzaghe still struggled with him. So that makes 2 live threats in over 40 fights for Calzaghe. How can you, who claims to be a boxing fan, find that acceptable?
