Poll: Gatti and Gomez. who wins and how.
-
Re: Poll: Gatti and Gomez. who wins and how.
If Gatti doesn't beat Gomez silly he needs to get out of the game, Gomez is at best a 3rd tier fighter...
-
Re: Poll: Gatti and Gomez. who wins and how.
I voted Gatti by the cards, which shows how far he's slipped cause a few years back he would've KO'd Gomez in 2. I think Gomez in gonna come ready to brawl and go to war while Arturo comes to box (which is what he's been saying). As I said, I think Arturo is just gonna out box and out class Gomez, but this fight will show us how much Gatti has left.
That being said, I wouldn't be surprised at all in Gomez won this fight; he's not all that good from what I've seen, but he's not that bad either... though Jesse Feleciano rocked him repeatedly and got robbed (in my opinion) in their last fight. Beating a then unbeaten Manfredo 2 weight classes above his natural weight is a decent accomplishment though if nothing else.
-
Re: Poll: Gatti and Gomez. who wins and how.
I think Gatti is gonna stop him. Thomas Daamgaard was a better fighter than Gomez IMO.
-
Re: Poll: Gatti and Gomez. who wins and how.
I think Gatti stops him in the first round. Brutally. Gomez is nothing more than a club fighter.
-
Re: Poll: Gatti and Gomez. who wins and how.
Gatti by ko mid-late.
I think its funny that no one who has voted for gomez has voiced their logic yet. ;D

Well I voted for Gomez. Gatti is done and even at his best was never much better than Gomez anyhow.
Gomez is naturally bigger and has never been stopped whilst fighting the likes of Ishe Smith, Manfredo twice, Jesse Brinkley and Feliciano three times.
Feliciano to my mind represents a bigger threat right now than Gatti does especially considering how he knocked out that hot prospect undefeated fighter a few months back.
Gomez can take a punch whilst Getti cannot.
Gomez ends it in the late rounds.
-
Re: Poll: Gatti and Gomez. who wins and how.
Gatti by way of stoppage! He will then fight Julio Cesar Chaves Jr and we will see his undeafted reign end :)
-
Re: Poll: Gatti and Gomez. who wins and how.
I love polls. It feels good to cast a vote. I will vote on anything...
Gomez on points.

The fact that Gomez has life and death fights with Feliciano pretty much tell you how mediocre Gomez really is. Gomez is in way over his head.

What has Ishe, Peter, or either jesse done in their career thus far? Better yet have they even won a paper title in this day of many titles that could be held by anyone? I'll take a shot has been over a never will be anyday.

I agree I don't think Gomez is world class but neither is Gatti. Gatti hasn't beaten a name opponent in 4 years. Gomez is 2 inches taller, has fought as high as 160 lbs and has never been stopped. He's also in the prime of his career.
Of his opponents I'd favour Manfredo, Ishe Smith, Felciano, Brinkley and even Ahmed Kuddour to do a number on Arturo Gatti.
Gatti is completely and utterly shot. This will be entertaing for a few rounds. Gatti will probably go down at least twice and probably three times, before being saved by the ref in round 10.

Gatti is shot. He's been shot for awhile. But even a shot Gatti destroys Gomez. Gomez has little to no power. And his defense is just as bad as Gatti's. If not worse. Gomez corner better be paying attention. Cuz Gomez could get hurt badly in this fight.

Re: Poll: Gatti and Gomez. who wins and how.
I've gone with Gomez. Changed my mind. I don't think Gatti can do it anymore. I hope I'm wrong, because I want Chavez Jr. to be the one to beat him.

Re: Poll: Gatti and Gomez. who wins and how.
gatti scores a tko, ref jumps in and saves gomez from a brutal beatdown
-
Re: Poll: Gatti and Gomez. who wins and how.
Take away gomez's last 2 fights against fellow bums and you have a 14-3-2 record fighter with 5 ko's (a slightly better than 33% ko ratio is gonna ko gatti? ::** ). He has no business fighting even a washed up world level fighter. If he wasn't on a tv show where he beat a then undefeated manfredo (who turned out to be an even more overrated fighter) you would be sitting here today bilbo and calling him a bum just like everyone else.

Baldimors ko percentage isn't much higher and he annihilated Gatti. Gomez is too big. To my knowledge Gatti has only ever beaten a single 147 lb fighter and that was Damgaard. Gomez has held his own as high as 160 lb, is several years younger and has not been in the wars Gatti has.
I'm not saying that Gomez is a better fighter than Gatti any more than I'm saying Zahir Ramheem is a better fghter than Morales.
Still Gatti is done, is fighting someone too big and will get his ass handed to him yet again.

Baldimor proved you don't need power to beat Gatti, just be naturally bigger and pressure him. Gomez can do that.
-
Re: Poll: Gatti and Gomez. who wins and how.
Gatti wins on the cards. Gomez will be outclassed as all the Contender fighters have been and will be as they step up. Baldimor is much better than Gomez (handed Zab his azz) . You cant compare the two. You know Zab would destroy Gomez.

Who did he fight near 160 pounds? Season 1 contender bums, thats it. As shot as gatti maybe be, we're taking about gomez. We ain't even talking about a good fighter, fighters that gatti has beaten already thruout his career, we're talking about gomez. ;D Gotta love A.I.
I've accepted your sig bet bilbo.

Ok I'll accept your sig bet also. We can plan what we want the others to say nearer the time.
There are no impressive wins on Gatti's record unless you count Mickey Ward or Jesse James Leija, he's basically lost to every decent fighter he's ever faced.
Gomez ain't much I'll give you that but truth be told you don't need to be much to beat Gatti. Any world class fighter from 140 - 147 would beat Gatti's ass right now and a decent journyman fighter like Gomez should be able to beat him fairly comfortably also.
Gatti's only chance is to stay on the outside and box, but Gomez's boxing skills ain't too bad, remember he was boxing Felcianco's head off for the first 5 rounds in their last fight and he outboxed Manfredo who whether you rate him or not was still ranked number 3 in the world by the WBO when they fought.
Has Gatti ever even defeated a world ranked fighter? ???
I'm presuming he must have in order to have won two titles but he's certainly not done it in the past 5 or 6 years.

I dont no, it would be close i suppose. But i just think Gatti is just too good for him at this stage of his carrer. I think it would be Gattis last fight and that would give him a good acentive to win!

Re: Poll: Gatti and Gomez. who wins and how.
Gatti still has all his power. the only problem was baldomire could take it, I'll bet my last dollar Gomez cant
Gatti Ko
Not only that Gatti will give Chavez a few problems

Gomez has a good chin based on what? The man was wobbling from shots he took from Feliciano. Gatti going to hurt the boy similar to the way he hurt Joey Gamache.

I agree but it did'nt say Gomez by KO it said by stunning upset KO so thats what i had to pick but i will admit i favoured Miranda to beat Pavlik by KO

Yeah I know I said it because Wacko's poll had the same option Pavlik by stunning KO and I was like 'Why would this be stunning? I'm confident he'll spark out Miranda?'
Same thing here, Gatti getting knocked out at this stage in his career should really come as a suprise to nobody.

If Gatti comes in the same shape he did when he fought Baldomir, he should KO Gomez imo. To compare Baldomir and Gomez on the basis that neither has great power or by whatever means is stupid. Baldomir is several levels above Gomez and has proven it many times against much better opposition than Gomez has fought. Gatti is well shot, but he still boxed fairly well and landing a lot of hard punches on Carlos, like someone said Baldomir just has an anvil for a head and outlasted him. I don't think Gomez will take Gatti's punches, and he certainly doesn't have the better skills, no matter how faded Arturo really is. I also don't think Gomez lasting 5 rounds on an edited TV show against Ishe smith is any sort of accolade.

Actually Baldimor has only a single impressive name on his record, and that was the woefully inconsistent, ill prepared and undertrained Zab Judah. He should have lost to Joshua Clottey and apart from Gatti I couldn't even name any of his other opponents.
And Gomex didn't fight Ishe Smith on the Contender, he fought him in his second professional fight at 2 days notice.
He's handled much bigger guys like Manfredo and Brinkley both whom are now campaigning at super middleweight.
Whether you rate Manfredo or not the fact remains he was still top 10 world ranked before the Contender show and ranked high enough afterwards to get a world title shot against Calzaghe.
I've got great faith in Alfonso and reckon he has enough to beat a faded Gatti down the stretch.

Lest we forget that Gatti is at best a 2nd Tier fighter. I think Gomez beats Gatti because he is BIGGER and because Gatti is as old as JL Castillo, and we will see it in this fight. He should have retired after Mayweather beat him up. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy for his years of blood and guts, but we are about to see the coronation of the new 'Blood and Guts' fighter.
