Re: King Katsidis ready for Vegas
I totally agree, Katsidis is a talent. A fight between him and Diaz will be a barn stormer, and I'm happy that both fighters have shown the kind of guts that has seen them bypass everyone else and get in the ring with each other. I like Katsidis alot, but Diaz is among my favourites, so I'm gunna keep the faith with him.
-
Re: King Katsidis ready for Vegas
Personally I think Diaz will absolutely murder him. He will get blown away in 6 rounds or less, should be fun whilst it lasts though.
-
Re: King Katsidis ready for Vegas
Why do you guys think Diaz will win. What's he got that Katsidis hasn't - except top-class experience.

Talent wise, there is little to chose between them. I just think Diaz can take a punch a little better and experience will be a factor. If Kats pulls something out, I wouldn't be surprised. What would surprise me is if this fight went the distance.

Defence, but I'd never rule Katsidis out cos he has huge 1 punch power.

Re: King Katsidis ready for Vegas
Katsidis is a very exciting fighter, from his entrance getup to his shoulder to shoulder style, there isn't much not to love about him.
However, he is facing a guy in Juan Diaz who is smart beyond his years with a very similar to Michael Katsidis. It should be shoulder to shoulder, with Katsidis being the bigger man but I'm not so sure the bigger man wins out here. Diaz is absolutely relentless, well paced, and now that Castillo has moved up, fights better on the inside then anyone in the division right now.
Katsidis makes for the interesting prospect of Diaz being pushed backwards for the first time since we've seen him, but I still see Diaz as the better here. I can not wait for this one as a big fan of Juan, and while I've only seen the Earl fight on Youtube, I like Katsidis too.
Love that this is being made, not only does it unify two titles, but there is no way there is a dull moment in this one.

I'm amazed how much credit you are giving him. He's just taylor made to get taken apart by Diaz. I'd still fancy former 120 lber Guzman to step up in weight and beat him.
He's all offense but he has no defense at all.
If they fight Diaz will kill him.

Guzman would have tore him apart no doubt in my mind. That's not to much of a knock though as I think Guzman can take anyone in 129 to 135. He's a special talent who hasn't had his showcase yet.
As for Katsidis. I mean I'm trying not to be so harsh on the guy especially since I like his style. I'm not going to say he's not talented because he obviously is, he picked apart Earl with the exception of pretty much one punch and he did it beautifully with speed and power. Punch placement was also nice there, so he has talent.
But Diaz is better then him right now and that's pretty much what I said in the post. Plus I'm a sucker for anyone named Rocky.

Re: King Katsidis ready for Vegas
You know back in the day in 2005 OumaFan and I used to go back and forth about 'Baby Bull' Diaz and what he was and what he could become. I didn't belive in him I was never impressed with him their was just something about him and their still is. I think anyone with slickness like Casamayor will dance circles around him. Yet hes proven me wrong not that I've picked against him cause I haven't but he shows heart and determantion on every outing.....
Kats on the other hand whoa! this kids explode onto the scene and is a crowd pleaser at times tooo reckless.
But you gotta love the kid he gives it his all and has proved he belongs in the ring...
Regardless of who you think will win one things for damn sure this match up has FOTY written allover it. 8)

I agree it would be a great fight but I don't see Katsidis posing a serious threat to Diaz at all, it will be just Pavlik Miranda.
In fact I don't even see Katsidis getting as far as Diaz. I know nothing about his next opponent from the Philippines but if he can box at all he's got to have a good chane against Katsidis.
Maybe I just havn't seen enough of him but his style is akin to a gambler at the greyhounds going 'everything I've got, all in on Trap 6 on the nose!'
Sure if he wins he will win BIG but keep risking your money like that and you are heading for a massive bankrupting fall and fast.....
Katsidis is going to get owned in a big way as soon as he steps up.

Re: King Katsidis ready for Vegas
Katsidis has to beat Czar Amonsot first on the Winky-Hopkins undercard...I wouldnt overlook Czar hes a little better than Earl, and is southpaw. This is the first southpaw since his first fight I think. Katsidis should take him out tho it may be harder than he expects.

I've never heard of him or seen him fight but if he has a decent chin and can box I'd fancy him to dismantle Katsidis.
To me he's heading for a beating.

Re: King Katsidis ready for Vegas
Yes you've already said that a number of times now. Sounds as though you want him to get a beating for some reason. I think Rocky is a great prospect and will hopefully do well. Haven't had a chance to see too much of him though so it will be good to see how he goes in his next fight, and maybe then can form an opinion of him.

Amonsot has glass chin. I've seen him against Butar-butar, the Indonisean dude who quit against Jimrex Jaca.

Yes you are correct I don't really rate him. As such I personally don't care whether he wins or loses. He's entertaining to watch but hardly a practitioner of the sweet science and I'll take a skilled boxer over an unskilled brawler any day.
Sorry if I've been harping on but as the seeming lone dissenter I'm keeping the thread going if nothing else.
And besides if he goes on to kick Juan Diaz's ass you'll all be glad you've got someone on here that you can do a big :fyou: to and tell me how you told me he was the best.
Without the voice of dispute all forum threads would be pointless so don't express your disaproval for me having a different point of view to yourself ;)

Re: King Katsidis ready for Vegas
Yeah that Butar-Butar guy has his number, I noticed he came in overweight in the second fight and still got KTFO in the first. I just think the southpaw aspect is the main obstacle. This looks like a good warm-up southpaw.

Its not a problem and i'd never give you the finger for saying one guy will win over another - it's just opinion and besides i dont know much about Katsidis anyway. I think he sounds like a good prospect from what i've heard and wouldn't say he's the best if he wins this next fight and even beats Diaz. I hope he wins of course b/c i'm from Oz so it would be nice for us here. I wouldn't know if he's a brawler or a boxer or both. I look forward to finding out though. CC from me though b/c i like it when someone posts anm informed opinion which seemingly is against the hype that can be present at times. So there was no disaproval of your opinion. :)

Well I'm glad we can agree to disagree. I guess it's unoriginality that turns me off him. Coming in to a Russell Crowe voiceover and the theme from Gladiator just makes me want to :puke:
Against Earl he was just so wide open and any decent solid boxer with ringcraft would have slaughtered him that night.
But he is a talking point. It will be interesting to see how he does when he steps up. Few of us expected Edwin Valero to do a number on Mosquera beforehand figuring his reckless style, inexperience and never having gone beyond the second round would prove his undoing but he aced the test and has knocked out both his subsequent opponents also.
Looks like Valero is the real deal. Katsidis may yet prove to be of the same mould but I really have my doubts.
Still he's an exciting prospect and a talking point nonetheless.
cc returned :)

Yeah he seems to generate some talk and excitement. Someone -( was it you?) mentioned that Earl knocked him down? So I guess he must have an open attacking style. He may have learned from that though.
However i was not aware of the ring entrace with the Russel Crowe thing. O dear that's a bit tragic - maybe he does need to have some sense knocked into him ;).

Re: King Katsidis ready for Vegas
I hope Kats goes well in his career. He is an old style brawler and really great to watch. I have a feeling a great defensive boxer would give him fits tho. He seems keen to take on whoever he can which is good also. Always turns up fit as can be and has a high kop ratio.

Actually I just checked my copy of the fight, it wasn't Gladiator it was a Brad Pitt voiceover and he came in as Achilles with the theme from Troy. :puke:

Cheers Big Jack it is indeed a great little forum here. 50 years is a long time to be a fight fan, that must make you almost as old as Scrap.
Always impresses me when someone who went to school before paper was invented and whose mathematics skill was learned on the abacus manages to somehow figure out how to operate a computer :P
Have a :coolclick: and I hope you continue to enjoy your time on the boards. :)

Kats is exciting as hell and looks like he has sledgehammers for fists and if you look at his record closly he has fought some good fighters, i think he is going on nicely and will probably win a version of the world title.

Re: King Katsidis ready for Vegas
He seems like a decent fighter, very strong, good combinations and power but 3 things:
He has yet to fight anyone of note.
His chin has not really been tested
His intro sucks balls. ;D

Yeah, Diaz is already unified champion. He has the WBA & WBO titles. I think he's fighting Katsidis to get the mandatory interim out of the way quickly.
