Boxing is getting to soft
I wish they would change boxing back to the days when it was 15 rounds and boxers were so tired they could barley move and would need the will to win it and show how good they really were and go back to the days when they didn't stop fights so fast and see if the other guy could make it back instead of stopping it to soon I think boxing is to soft now compared to the old days.
-
Re: Boxing is getting to soft
Yeah it's more of a sport now rewarding technical skill over courage, stamina and will.
I'd love to see the return of 15 round wars with lighter gloves but it's never going to happen unfortunately.

Re: Boxing is getting to soft
If a 12 round match saves more lifes i couldnt care a less what people think about the sport
-
Re: Boxing is getting to soft
hey people can die now in the ring a few rounds i don't think would effect them much more.

I'd rather an extra death or two a year to bring the sport back to its glory days. Makes it more exciting.

Not sure I'd go quite that far...
but I would like to see the 15 round fight return, at least for championship matches. They can keep the heavier gloves.

that's a really pitiful post Bilbo.....I know you try to push some buttons and irk a few (most) on this site I never expected to see you advocating "Blood sport".....1 death in boxing or any sport is too much....the glory days are gone because boxing left it's fanbase.....PPV destroyed boxing...sure some super ultra mega fights might warrant a PPV but not 90% of the fights that are on it today....when boxing left national telivision it started to decline.....

Re: Boxing is getting to soft
This post is ridiculous. Anyone who gets in with another top boxer is not soft. Its easy to sit on your fat ass and call pro boxers soft, get pummeled by cotto, hopkins, hatton for 12 rounds and see if its still soft....

15 is to many... maybe for jr middles and under but for the big men too many...
well if you like seeing them battles.... them great warriors would be like Ali not hopkins when they are 42+yrs. with 15 rounds...
it would dramtically decrease the primes (especially for the great fighters)
but maybe it would be nice if they selected one bout a year out of all the fights..... of course i think you all are forgetting a 15 round Taylor-Spinks could kill boxing ;D
a ruiz-briggs 15 rounder might kill people but it aint gonna be in the ring O0

Who would want to do it? As personal who was athletic enough to play other sports even football there is a feeling of security knowing that even if you look bad you won't get absolutely destroyed.

Re: Boxing is getting to soft
Did any of you see Katsidis v Amonsot and Larios V linares on the BHop V winky card last week???????? That was not soft!
We don't need 15 rounds. All we will get is 3 more rounds of BHop and winky making love instead of fighting.

I sad click you for such stupidity....You either have no real knowledge of what it takes out of you to get in the ring and fight or you just do not care about the well being of the guys who put it on the line...
Either way the SC is well deserved.....
An extra 3 rounds is not going to make the fight any better if it was a dull boring bout up until the 12th it is just going to be 3 more BORING ROUNDS!!!!!
If the fight was a war up until the 12th round then there is not reason to push the limits until one guy goes past the point his body will allow and someone ends up hurt PERMENATLY!!!!
Go tell Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti they needed another 5 rounds...Tell Bowe and Holyfield you think they are soft and there fights needed more rounds....

Re: Boxing is getting to soft
15 rounds should be the preserve of champions. Remember without them there would be no Rocky Marciano undefeated champion, or Leonard beating Hearns. Also they may have provided a clear winner in the close contest such as Bhop v Taylor 1.

Re: Boxing is getting to soft
i disagree. i think this is one of the best years boxing has had since the rise of MMA. finally, the top boxers are wanting to fight the top boxers. we've seen so many great matches in the past year. boxing is NOT getting soft IMO.
-
Re: Boxing is getting to soft
if not for all fights just champships is what i think 15 rounds would be good and yea i know what boxer go through but if they could do it in the old days i am sure they could do it now and for a championship fight i am sure 15 rounds should be out of the question
-
Re: Boxing is getting to soft
I don't think there is a need for 15 rounders, but I do think that fighters at the championship level
should fight more often.
4 times a year should be good.
that's enough time to train get in great shape and still have off time for friends and family.

I see no issues with 15 rounds. We've had a lot of very close top level fights this year. They would have been decided over 15.

see that one reason that a 15 rounder would be a good thing for close fights good point miles

Nothing better then watching your hero's years later shaking like a leaf
Try having a conversation with Joe Frazier,or Ali

Name a fighter from the 15 round era(not Foreman his fights almost never went that long) that speaks clearly
They all could back then
Norton was so well spoken he had a minor acting career, now he sounds like he's got marbles in his mouth
Holmes
Frazier
Norton
Quarry
Ali
Chuvallo
They all sound like hell
These are people, not simian cockfighters for your amusement

:goodpost: Monkey. 36 minutes/12 rounds of fighting is enough time to do what u have to do. Boxing, like anything that stay arond for an extended period will/has evolved. I wouldn't like to see the x-tra punishment.
Someone posted that they want to see guys not being able to stand after fights. 12 rounds is a long time & a guy that wants to leave it all in the ring after goin 12 can do so. If u want to burn urself out running 2 miles balls out, u can do that. If u want to jog 4 miles at a slow pace, u may not even be tired.
Hey guys, maybe fighters should wear 6 oz. gloves & dip them into glue & glass before matches. :Sarcasm:
Whoever beleives that 12 rounds makes boxing "soft" is off IMO. I would venture to say that they have never swapped shots for many if any rounds with another.
The severity/accelerated rate of Ali's parkinson's has been linked to his days of boxing on more than one occasion that I can remember.
