He looked slick against Rivera but age is not on his side. Still 154 lb is hardly a stacked division so he has to be counted as one of the best junior middles in the world.
I voted "Another overrated champion."
I'm not sure if he is overrated. I don't hear folks clamoring on about him.
In my eyes Simms is someone who may or may not hang on to the belt depending on whom he fights rather than his skill set.
I'm guessing you haven't seen him fight Gorilla?

HE fough a great fight against Rivera he did kick his ass
Fair enough. He doesn't do anything overly special, but he has above average power, good speed, and very good technique(especially defense/counter punching) also to boot he is a southpaw.Quote:

I think he's good, not great but definitely solid.
He might get into some trouble if he fights a guy that stays back and makes him press the fight, but he's very tough when you come forward, and let him counter.
Simms is a rare talent but he's waited until the age of 36 to make noise, if he wants to do something big he needs to do it now
He is a sleeper champion. Not a lot of attention in the press. But a quality fighter worthy of holding a title
Ill tell you after the Alcine fight ;) Rivera is a good fighter and a great guy but Alcine is hungry and undefeated against some good fighters, good but not great, but Simms hasnt beaten any great fighters either and you cant compare Alcine to Rivera because they are completely different sylistically.
Who's left for Simms to fight at 154?
Spinks, this would be a competitive fight. Spinks is faster, but Simms is no slouch in the speed department
and has more power. SPINKS SD
ODLH, no chance the Golden Boy comes back for a fight that has this risk without the financial incentive
NEVER HAPPENS
Sechew Powell, As long as Simms avoids Powell's wild swinging opening rounds, he could skate to a comfortable decision
Simms UD
Sergiy Dzinziruk, He's in the same boat as Simms in the prior competition category, hard to say, honestly haven't seen
him fight, can't make a decision.
IF I was Simms I would gun for unification, Dzindiruk or Spinks win or lose it would be right there on top of the division.
I agree with the statement that Simms has to act NOW, he needs to stay very busy
I'd love to see Simms Spinks but as I now NOTHING about Alcine,so may be that is looking too far ahead. Simms is a sound fighter,he looked awesome v Rivera but he had the style to beat him. Other than that fight,I've only seen 1 other fight of his and again,he does not seem spectacular in any area but very good in almost every area.
Mayweather is the only one I would feel confident beating Simms, and thats because of his speed and he does what Simms does better. I like Simms against ODLH, SPinks would be close, POwell, haven't seen Dzinziruk.
Simms is a really good technical fighter with a good physical arsenal to boot. He reminds a lot of TOney who wasn't just technically proficient, but also a good athlete.
Take out Mayweather & Simms is easily the best fighter @ 154. I'd love to see him fight Spinks or Karmarzin next as age isn't on his side so he needs to make the big fights!
I was REAL impressed with Simms victory over Jose Antonio Rivera, he looked untouchable in that fight. He reminds me of Verno Phillips or Winky Wright, somewhere inbetween those two as far as skills, defense, talent. He's very good and fresh for his age, I'd love to see him fight either Phillips or Winky sometime, or even Karmazin. Fuk Spinks, yeah he's still got the belt at 154, but I don't want to see anyone give him another pay day by fighting him, he's crap. I'll tell ya what though, if Simms wins his fight tomorrow, which he should, I say he should fight the winner of Forrest vs. Baldomir, I figure he'd whip either of them, pretty badly too. 8)
What would you guys think of his chances against DLH? Not that it would happen, but just in theory. That may sound like a stretch, but I dont think Oscar is out of his league. Watch his fights he is clearly an elite talent. I think it would be a hell of a fight!
Realistically he should fight Ouma, Karmazin, Spinks, Mosley, the winner of Baldomir/Forrest. He needs to get in some fights, like 4 per year if he wants to unify all the belts before its too late!
Simms definitely star ability due to one punch knockout ability but he will hit a roadblock tonight in that path. Alcine is title material and brings too much hand speed i think for Simms, not to mention he is very physicaly strong for weight class. He does have pop himself with 18 knockout in 28 although more so from combination of punches. Simms chance is if he catches him early with a bomb but if it goes to decision, which i anticipate its Alcine all the way.
maybe people are overdoing it on Simms off of just the Rivera fight?
Not that I don't think he's good, but Rivera was pretty much the right type of fighter for Simms.
And this is why I voted with Superstar.Quote:

This Alcine fight should show it, Alcine is a very good boxer and has fought some decent opposition.
If Simms can fight the same fight he fought against Rivera where he paced himself and brought on the pain at the right time I think he will stop Alcine in the second half of the fight.
simms gonna KTFO this unbeaten jobber ;)
fight could be short...2 weeks ago in training with another fighter Jean Pascal of Montreal Alcine got knocked out by him..but i still think if it goes past early stages Alcine too good of boxer to lose and he's not a jobber don't worry.
He is so slick he is boring!

I think Rivera was just a perfect style for Simms. Absolutely could not have been more perfect.Quote:

I think Simms was outclassed...remember they both lost pts for late shots.. he may get a rematch but doubt he'd win it
Outclassed is a little farther than I'd go but Simms stunk it up. He could look good again if matched right and I wouldn't totally count him out if there was a rematch although I'm not sure why there would be one. Is there a demand for it? I wouldn't watch it.
Simms wants it and not sure what name Alcine can draw since he is just building his name now, and doubt he'd want to do first defense against a real young hungry up and comer.
Man, that was a disapointment. Simms was off, no doubt about it. Alcine didn't look all that good either, but he did outwork Simms late in the fight, still I didn't think he did enuff to take Simm's belt. That knockdown was crap, technically I guess it may have been legit, but it didn't hurt Simms a bit. Weird, boring, bad fight. Tough break for Simms, he could bounce back from this, just needs another chance against a big name opponent.
Honestly it will be tough to do at his age....Quote:

That's too bad, I really liked Simms style, big time let down.....
I think he just blew his last opportunity.
yep not seeing rematch anymore...Alcine wants to fight sometime in November if possible and theirs also suggestion of Spinks in picture
How disappointing for Simms. The commentators had Simms ahead, just, so the final scores were a bit of a surprise to them. I had it close too, only 3 points either way, but the 3rd judges card had Alcine miles ahead. Sorry I can't remember who or how much, hang on i'll see if boxrec has it...................................."Judge: Glenn Feldman 110-115 | Judge: Tom Kaczmarek 109-116 | Judge: George DeGabriel 111-114 ~" Ok so it was the second judge here but i think they read it out last at the fight. I actually found the fight quite interesting to watch. It was a little awkward at times due to the southpaw thing but it was a good technical fight IMO. Did you see Alcine Stepping on Simms right foot? He was warned once but kept trying it like N'Dou v Malignaggi, but it obviously worked for Alcine better. What's Simms to do now at 36 years of age? I presume there is a rematch clause?Quote:

Simms is probably going to end up headlining a FNF card against Verno Phillips or Richard Guittarrez or someone like that. Which isn't a bad thing, I'd love to see him fight either, but he'd better win or he's done.
So disappointed with Simms' performance. At his age there aren't many opportunities available! He needs to take any big name fight offered to him & win if he wants to salvage what's left of his career!
He looked so good against Rivera, now he looks like he took fight advice from John Ruiz.
Travis talked too much way too soon, "tremendous" bad timing to claim P 4 P status, that's what I think about it! :-\
i was at this fight simms definatly disapointed me he didnt fight his fight he should have attacked alcine but instead he kept holding him it was sad to see because simms was the better fighter he just got out of his rythm and alcine took advantage of that.
