SRL Hagler (i know i know)
i know this has been done to death but being as though i had never seen this fight i never put my two cents in to it. now that i have finaly seen this fight i must say that i disagree with my father and say that SRL won that fight 115 to 113. i know the popular thing to say amoung boxing fans is that hagler won but i wanna know who you guys think won the fight.
for those of you younger than me who have never seen the fight i advise you to do a search on the file sharing board. there is a very good copy of the fight that you can download.

I seen it multiple times i think Leonard won it by 1 round Hagler gave away first 4 rounds trying to box with Leonard and that imo is what just edged it in Leonards way it was big lead to start off with and Leonard just edged it although Hagler comeback strong in middle rounds.
Re: SRL Hagler (i know i know)
get very annoyed when people claim Hagler was 'robbed'. IMO SRL won the fight but JUST....and a robbery suggests that Hagler CLEARLY won the fight, which he simply didnt. Would have been a worse robbery is Hagler was awarded the fight IMO.

Totally agree.
Re: SRL Hagler (i know i know)
i think that Hagler won, but not by much, Leonard was overwhelming early, and won his rounds clearly, then Hagler started to outwork him and take over, i had Hagler winning by like 2 rounds if i remember correctly, but either way i think a draw would have been an ok decision, and was a robbery by no means
Re: SRL Hagler (i know i know)
I gave alot of the closer round to Hagler for aggression, Leonard's showboating would steal all of Haglers thunder. I am a little biased towards Hagler tho....It was extremely close, thats why its hard to argue the outcome...any way it turned out.Callling it a robbery is a bit harsh, would have loved to see a rematch.
Re: SRL Hagler (i know i know)
it was definetly in no way a robbery.
Re: SRL Hagler (i know i know)
I thought that SRL won but can see how people may think the other way. A draw would even have been fair.
Re: SRL Hagler (i know i know)
I say SRL, but Hagler lost it because of the first three rounds, and its his own fault for trying to box a better boxer. I had him winning the rest of the fight by one or two rounds so he ended up losing by one or two points.
Re: SRL Hagler (i know i know)
My impression is the same as most. SRL by 1, maybe 2. Hagler just gave up too many rounds at the beginning. I think somebody forgot to tell him that it was a 12 round fight. If it had been a 15 round fight Hagler would have won. He defenately had the momentum.
Re: SRL Hagler (i know i know)
for the life of me, i cannot believe people think SRL won that fight.

Well i could say the same to you fir thinking Hagler won it was razor thin fight could of gone either way i would of been happy with a draw personally but even if you think Leonard won or lost he hadn't fought in 3 years and went way above his natural weight and fought Middleweight king and beat him thats some achievement.
Re: SRL Hagler (i know i know)
It's not so much that Leonard won. But the main fact that Hagler lost. He only has himself to blame giving away the early rounds if he'd been competitive in at least 2 of those rounds he wouldnt have lost, but he gave them away and thats his fault. The only person who robbed Marvin Hagler was Marvin Hagler
Re: SRL Hagler (i know i know)
i thought srl won
cause hagler had a weak start

I second that!
Re: SRL Hagler (i know i know)
Hagler clearly won the fight. All Leonard did was run and try to win the last 30 seconds of each round. It was a smoke and mirror job and the judges fell for it.

thats bull shit man. leonard clearly won 115-113.
hagler gave the first 4 rd away to SRL and that haglers fault. if hagler took it more serious in the beginning....hagler would have won,but he didnt.
and it was great win for SRL who was stepping way up in wieght class and a 3-4 yr lay off!
sugar ray all the way baby 8)
Re: SRL Hagler (i know i know)
One of the big turns in that fight I'll state another point. Hagler in that fight, fought to "defend" his title and Hagler was always known for fighting as if he was taking his title back. But in this fight for the first time in a very very long time maybe even the first time he fought to defend his title instead of take it back and it cost him.

yeah i know SRL did flurry at the end of some rounds but most times he was already winning the round. the flurry at the last 30 seconds would only seal deal.
Re: SRL Hagler (i know i know)
i thought leonard won on ringmanship. he was able to control the pace of the fight, forcing hagler to fight on his terms. his defense was extraordinary, making hagler miss by wide margins at times, sometimes while he was standing right in front of him.
offensively, he landed in brilliant flurries that always bought the crowd to their feet. while it is true that he never hurt hagler, the reverse is almost as true. leonard never went down (obviously), was never wobbled, and was subjected to only one prolonged attack (round 9)...one that he punched his way out of, backing hagler up while continuing to flurry in the middle of the ring.
hagler simply did not connect with enough hard punches to overcome Leonard's flurries, defense, and ringmanship.
Re: SRL Hagler (i know i know)
round 9 was a good round for both fighters IMO. at first i had it a draw but went back and gave it to two hagler.
