Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
These three guys were arguably the top dogs in their divisions in the late nineties early 2000s. Which one, if they returned now would still have an impact.
Im saying Tito at 160?
Kostya at 147?
Lewis at HW?
My bet is Lewis would make the biggest impact and probably beat everyone but the Klitschkos.
What u guys think?
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
Well I think the biggest return of those 3 would be Kostya as 147 is a deep division and there would be some interesting matchups.
Lennox Lewis wouldn't be a big return as he's been away for a long time.
Tito has already tried a comeback and it didn't go too well

Yeah u have good points. Tito didnt exactly take on an easy opponent in Wright tho. I think he beats the majority of former 147 fighters by the same margin. I think Lewis could still have the skills to be a top 5 HW. Tszyu may be a little small for 147 at the moment, if he could manage 140 (which is near impossible) i think he beats everyone there but Hatton.
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
Lewis can still punch and tie up....but he won't be as fast on the draw as he used to.
Zab Judah can get back in the game by getting a rematch with KT at 147 so it would be beneficial to Zab especially since he showed so much heart fighting Cotto......speaking of which a Cotto-Tszyu fight would be BRUTAL!!!
Trinidad is too big for 154 now and I think he COULD do something at 160 but he's planning on fighting RJJ, he'll be like a Puerto Rican James Toney at that weight(168-175)!!!
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
Definately Lewis if he was serious about it and in shape. I think that all these guys could come back and make noise but Tito looked bad against Winky, he would have to improve on that performance for sure. Tszyus condition is the biggest question in his because we dont know what he will look like after all the wars and coming off a hard loss.

I think everyone is being a bit harsh on tito here. He was fighting a great bigger guy firing on all cylinders in Wright and got beaten easily. But there aren't too many guys out there who are as good as winky.
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
Not harsh at all look at the numbers of punches landed for Tito in that fight...thats what he normally gets in a few rounds.
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
Well it would be good for Tszyu to fight a guy like Gatti or Gomez or whoever and then fight a guy like Shane Mosley or Zab Judah for big bucks....it's a long shot but I'd like to see it

Sorry im not being critical. I mean he landed lots of ounches against guys who aren't nearly as good as wright. Everyones punch stats are down agaonst winky. But you are right Tito didnt look great.
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
I think head hunters just can't do very well vs Wright....you have to work the body and if it means hitting him on the arms you have to do it.
Trinidad-Margarito....I would have loved to see that back in the day
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
Tszyu has recently asked on his fan forum who he should fight in a comeback.
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
I think Winky has a small torso or something because his arms arent all that long by measurments but it looks like his elbows go to his knees.Theres too many fights to pick from for a Tszyu comeback at welter, I would love to see a rematch with Hatton, or Judah. Maybe start by knocking out old Vince Phillips for the upset of the year revenge. He's still boxing I think.
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
i think lewis would have the biggest impact if he cameback. only because he was a big name in boxing and the heavyweight division is wide open.
tito has already came back once and one boxing lesson sent him right back into retirement. he would definetly bring the fans but i can't see him doing anything meanful. a tito DLH fight would be good but thats it. PBF would jump right up to 160 to give him another boxing lesson and send him back into retirement.
kostya didn't really seem to be making that much of an impact in the years before his retirement so i doubt he would make a big impact if he came back. he has the potential but i just don't see it happing.

Yeah Vince is still fighting. Lost his last 3 fights to no names tho so i dont think Kt will be fighting him. I'd like Tszyu v Malignaggi as battle of the hardest names to spell right....
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
KT would be of most interest but he is 38 in October and folks that means he is past it!!
At 147 the only fight that may interest him if it happened this year is Mosley, he is 35 and doesn't have to many more options either.
It would be great to see those two go at it in 2007!
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
In theory Lewis retired on top of his game, whereas the other 2 retired as beaten and apparantly shot fighters , so I think Lewis would make the biggest impact in a comeback, it is the most unlikely of the 3 though.
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
I would have to go for Lewis without a doubt...
There was a mini media circus when rumors a few months ago of lewis coming back... whilst Tito and Tszyu wouldget the attention of thier fans i doubt many out of thier cricle would care to much, its nice to see thier names back - most agree they were forced into retirment then, why now after this time off would they be any better? Tito was never a middleweight at his prime, so why now when he is shot be any better?
whislt tszyu can do a lil better, there is no big name out thee he beats who isnt shot imo - tszu best hope of a coming back would be agasint judah...
Now lennox could not just win a fight, but clean up his devision... hes big enough, known enough and pulls the money in for his fights... i mean if lennox came back the whole world would be buzzing about him v Klit II after that every champ would be wanting a shot at him hoping he is past it enough for them to makethier name...
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
right now I do not believe any of the three really have that much to offer. They are getting old and Lewis has been away a lon long time.
If any were to come back in prime condition though ::**
Lennox would clean out the heavyweight division quick...
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
No doubt about it, Lennox Lewis would be HUGE comeback. In a time when the HW division is in desperate need of a big name and meaningful match ups a Lewis comeback would be the end all be all of posibilities. Don't think he will return though.
I have not heard anything on a KT comeback. Has anybody? It might be interesting to see him thrown into the WW melting pot.
Tito is most likely to return. I just hope he can make 160, anything over that would be a waist of time.
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
Lewis would make the biggest impact simply due to the poor state of the HW division. Tito would be too small at 160 and above and WW is full of guys that could beat Tszyu.

I agree that Lewis would make the biggest impact. Not only is the HW division in poor shape right now and ready for the picking, but also, fans are hungry for good heavyweight action once again.
I don't know whether to agree about Tito being too small at 160, however. He did fail miserably against BHop and Winky. But he KO'd a highly regarded William Joppy in impressive fashion. It'd be interesting to see how Tito would fare agaisnt the likes of Jermaine, Pavlik, Miranda, etc.
And about Tszyu, yeah... I agree with your statement. Tszyu has gotten older, and the division has moved on. Tszyu's time has clearly passed.
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
I say lewis he can make ssome noise in the hw plus everone else wanna comebck
tszyu if he goes to 147 uhh he probaly cause ther more fights for him

Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
Lennox Lewis coming back would be the biggest and best possible news in the world for boxing right now. The health and success of boxing has always been tied up in the health of the heavyweight division and a Lewis comeback would be huge.
Kosta won't come back, there's nothing for him out there. If he tried to make a go of it at 147 he would be swallowed.
Tito coming back? Who cares? :cwm33:
If Lewis came back there would be massive interest. A potential future showdown with either Klitschko brother for the undisputed heavyweight title could well rival Oscar and Floyd in the PPV stakes and would be a massive shot in the arm for boxing.
Tito would just bring further embarrassment to himself if he came back. Same for Kosta.

Felix “Tito” Trinidad is planning a comeback or so rumor has it. This is the time for comebacks. Live Free or Die Hard, Rocky Balboa, and Rambo IV all have made the comeback and I have even heard that they are bringing Steven Seagal back as the cook in Under Siege III. It makes sense that he’s the cook. I know a lot of people made a big deal out of him being too fat to be a real fighter, but I know a lot of fat guys that can really fight. So, Seagal’s all right.
Trinidad apparently is looking for a shot at Roy Jones, JR., in a Super Fight? Is that a super fight? On paper, it sounds great, but these are two names more than fighters really going at it, if they ever do, which I HIGHLY doubt. This is probably just more fluff that is thrown out there just to keep their names in the headlines just in case they decide to return. I cannot see Trinidad doing anything more with the sport or Roy either as a matter of fact. I cannot see spending 50 dollars to watch it on Pay Per View if it does happen. I would rather watch a fat cook throw down.

Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
Lennox is the biggest name in boxing now even when he's retired so yes he'd have the biggest impact.
What else does boxing have? That coward Gayweather! Floyd won't fight Hatton or Cotto or Margaritto but he will fight oldman Oscar and nobody Baldomir lol
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
So everybody and their brother is entitled to make a comeback, even old fogies coming out of their retirement homes...... but Tito announces that he's thinking of coming back, and the haters have a field day with it.
Ho-hum....
Some things never change.
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
biggest impact would be lennox cuz he is a HW and most people know who he is
FUCK KOSTYA TSZYU
if he comes back it better be to fight judah

Yeah but how many comebacks can one guy have?
If he did comeback again the only calibre fighters he would have a chance at beating would be the winner of Vargas Mayorga.
I don't care to see Trinidad vs Mayorga 2....do you? ???

How many comebacks did Sugar Ray Leonard have? For that matter, boxing is the "sport of comebacks", is it not? Then what sets Tito apart? And no...... I see no point in Trinidad-Mayorga II. But there's other fish to fry at 160. Tito lost to BHop and Winky. He beat Joppy, Mayorga and Cherifi. IMO, he handled 160 better than say... Oscar. Who else can he beat at 160? I don't know. Maybe Taylor... maybe Miranda... maybe Pavlik. Who's to know?

Yes but I would be more than happy to see Oscar hang up his gloves and become a man of the cloth spreading the Good News about Himself ;)
In fact I would postively rejoice that he was gone although his imminent Canonisation would doubtless make me :puke:
But seriously Tito still has the right to come back and make some money. He may be a decent name for an up and comer like John Duddy but I personally won't be getting excited one way or the other. I'm sure there are many fighters that could come back who you wouldn't care to see either,

Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
The biggest impact should depend on the opponent also. If Lenox returns to fight Wladimir or may be if Vitali returns for a rematch, will have a great impact. But, may not be the same if he comes back to fight some other HW. In the case of Tszyu a rematch with Hatton does not cause me a lot of excitement because I think Hatton will dominate even easier an older Tszyu. However, a come back to fight Judah may be more interesting.
In the case of Tito, the biggest impact may be fighting De La Hoya, but the difficulty I see is to have King and De La Hoya agree $$$. Tito may have some other options such as Mosley or Taylor, even rematches with Hopkins or Wright. But, the fight I think he should not take, but probably will sell well, is RJJ. I have to admit that RJJ will be too heavy for Tito, and have all the advantage in this fight (and this is hard for me to admit). The best chances I see for Tito is, if RJJ accept to go to 168.
-
Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
I don't think any of them would have much impact. The exception would be Lewis if he really got in shape and decided to fight three fights minimum per year for a couple of years. Just to come back for a fight or two would just make a momentary splash. I don't think either Tito or Kostya could do more than have a few entertaining fights; neither would dominate long enough (if at all) to redefine a weight class. Lewis, however, might be able to do that.

Gayweather? thats very mature of you. Floyd went upto 154 he started at Featherweight, alot of people thought we would and did get beat, that was a very dangerous fight.

Re: Biggest impact on return? Lewis, Tszyu or Tito?
Lennox Lewis coming back would be the biggest comeback in history . Moreso than a Tyson comeback .
Lewis returning would be news around the world . The other two ( Tszyu / Tito ) arent that big .
