British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Tonight's RBR action comes from the Robin Park Centre in Wigan, after a few weeks respite from the British boxing scene, but this is the start of a busy boxing schedule over the next few weeks in Britain, with big bills all over the shop.
There are two main event bouts tonight, and both have short notice fighters coming in looking for a belt. First up is the headliner, with Jason Booth up against late call-up Ian Napa, for the dropped out Martin Power. The other fight is for the WBC International light middleweight belt, with South African Vincent Vuma challenging up-and-comer Mark Thompson, who stepped in for Jamie Moore.
Will post some previews when I get a minute later. ;) Start time is 10pm UK and 5pm EST.

Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
CC Rhun, i was going to be going to that fight but it was bloody too expensive :(. It should be good and ive heard Gomez is on the card as well so that should be a good one.
-
Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Nice one rhun ;)
cc mate
Booth has beaten him before in 2001 so has the mental edge but has been inactive for a couple of years with Napa looking good of recent.
Booth has battled Booze addiction so which Booth turns up is anyones guess.
I'm still gonna go for him by UD as i feel mentally he's already won the battle but can he win the war?
Should be a belter imo. 8)

Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Cheers folks and thanks for the sticky.....on this thread ;). Anyhow, here's the tale of the tape as I call it:
First up is Jason Booth v Ian Napa for the vacant British Bantamweight title.
Although Booth, (27-4, 10KOs), has fought at lower weights, Ian Napa has also campaigned below Bantamweight, so I don't think size will be an issue for Booth. At 29 Booth has plenty of experience to draw on, even if much of it has seen him walking away the defeated fighter, and he has been campaigning at championship level for eight years, since his first challenge for the European Flyweight belt in 1999. Booth is a slick boxer and has better power than his 10KOs suggest, and although his last real challenge was back in 2004 when he lost his IBO Flyweight belt to Damaen Kelly, his two opponents since returning at the end of last year have been tune ups and nothing more.
Ian Napa is (13-6) has generally been referred to by almost everyone as a 'nearly man' since he stepped in to take this fight, and has four defeats in the biggest title fights of his career, but the short man from Hackney is always game, but tends to suffer from his lack of power and the usual height advantage of opponents, with Booth standing three inches taller than him. Napa lost his previous challenge for this belt against Martin Power in 2005, but the important history here is Booth's victory over Napa for British and Commonwealth Flyweight belts back in 2000. Napa is also skilful and evasive, but can be overpowered as Maludrottu proved, and Booth will go in the heavy favourite.
The second fight of the evening is Mark Thompson v Vincent Vuma for the WBC International Light Middleweight belt, and this will be a huge opportunity for Mark Thompson to prove himself.
Thompson, (11-0, 6 KOs), is a come forward fighter who has impressed with his entertaining style so far, but tonight's bout will by far be the biggest fight of his career, as he gets his first title bout. He's spoken well since being told of his chance to fight for the vacant belt, and will be looking to continue his undefeated record.
Vuma (22-2, 13KOs) is a complete unknown to me, with this being only his second fight outside of South Africa, and the only recognised name on his record being Reda Zam Zam whom he lost to on points in Denmark. Boxrec offers little help, with 13 KOs unreliable in telling whether he has power or not, but if he were as good as Tshifiwa Munyai, he'd have been fighting in Europe long before now.
Peace out fellas, and see you in two and a half hours or so.

Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Me,the bro in law and the missus are well on it beerwise ;D
Got a good feeling about this one,i predict a UD for Booth as he's done Nappa 6 years ago and has that mental edge but he's been naughty with the booze an largley inactive for a few years whereas Nappa has looked mustard recently.
Should be a good little tear-up. 8)

Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Napa looks the buisness coming in, until you see the size of the security guys standing to the next 5'1" tall fighter. Napa looking cool and confident when, in the coridor outside, Booth is looking nervous, but looking physically fit though. Nice camo shorts for Booth as well. Tale of the tape has Booth three inches taller, and weighed in two pounds later than Napa.
OK, eyes down, look in, and let's get some proper action between these two little men.
-
Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 1:
They both look to throw shots from distance early doors, with booth with a good right, and although gets caught with a short hook, lands two more body shots to Napa's ribs. Napa keeping his awkward guard present, almost leading forward with the left elbow. Booth putting together more left hands to the body. Napa returns a body shot, and another. Booth catches Napa with a glancing hook. Two jabs from Booth, but Napa digs in two right hook to the ribs close in. NApa looking to duck under the guard, but a flurry of body shots from booth. Napa with two short hooks coming out of the clinch.
Booth looking the better in the first round for me.
10-9
-
Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 2:
Booth looking to double up on the jab. As they get in close Booth looses 5 or 6 hooks to the body, whilst Napa pings in two uppercuts. They clinch again and do the same thing. Lots of clinching and close punching from both fighters. Booth falls short with two jabs, and Napa pings in some body shots. Napa llosing to the body again. Booth letting Napa come in, but throws two accurate jabs. They trade body shots as they crouch low. Huge right hook from Napa, and Booth is really rattled. Another right hook from Napa catches Booth well. Good round for Napa.
19-19 with Napa doing well in this one.
-
Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 3:
Long way to go, but entertaining fare from both fighters. Booth pops in two body shots. Another left to the body. Uppercut from Napa partially blocked by Booth. Good short right hook from Booth, as Napa's returns find gloves. Booth looking to come in with jabs again. Big left hook from Booth. Body shots from Booth too, and Napa is covering up in the corner. Napa clinches and swivels out of the corner, poking out a jab as he does it. Napa with some body shots, but Booth with a hook of his own. Good right from Booth grazes Napa's head. Body shots from Napa, but Booth returns a hook. Booth body shot, and a short left on the bell.
Booth's round.
29-28 Booth

Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
This is piss poor so far imo
Get involved >:mad

Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 4:
Booth looking to start quickly again, leading with the jab, then lots of short hooks on the inside. Napa countering, but ?Booth returns and uppercut. Big right again from Napa as Booth ducks in, he''ll have to watch that one. Napa moving well, and ducks and dodges a hook to land some body shots. They both want to get inside and work the body. Napa's jabs are getting through well, and Booth looks to be tiring more as the round progresses. Two weak body shots from Booth. Uppercut from Booth as Napa misses two hooks. Body shots from Booth, Napa hooks get through. Body shots and a hook from NApa, with and overhand right from booth to end the round.
Tied round, very close stuff.
39-38

Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 5:
It must be just me Smash, cause I am not finding this too bad, but maybe it's the lack of British boxing over recent weeks. Napa with the counter, as Booth is trying to get in. Booth with a body shot, but Napa with a nice short left hook. They clinch and trade body shots. Napa's body shots are doing well. Napa dodges well, then pings out the jab. Two body shots from Booth as they wrestle, then they trade jabs. Booth looks to be tiring, as Napa pings short jabs and hooks that are getting Booth. Nice left from Napa, but Booth lands a right and a left hook. Napa with a body shot.
Napa's round for me.
48-48
-
Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 6:
Booth's landed 48 to Napa's 40. They both block jabs. Booth still following Napa around the ring, and finds a decent body shot. Right hnad blocked, and Napa returns some body shots. Lots of good movement from them both, but Napa's right goes into Booth's face. Then a left. Body shot and a hook from Booth. Two nice body shots from Booth. Napa does a jogging motion as he dodges another booth straight right. Booth lands to the body, then another. They clinch, and a short left from Booth as they come out. Booth lands one of three jabs. Hook from Bapa lands, and a left from Booth. Two Booth left hooks as he pins Napa in the corner.
Booth edges this one.
58-57

Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 7:
Booth comes through a Nape jab to land a body shot and a hard hook. Booth coming forward, and Napa on the counter. Good body shots from Booth, and napa lands a counter hook. It's scrappy on the inside again, as they both hold tight guards and look for the short shots. Booth getting caught by Napa hooks, and another good right as they com out of the clinch. Booth dangling out his lead like Fraudley does...don't do that son, and while he lands a body shot, Napa returns a hook up top with interest. They trade body shots again. Nice hook on the bell from Booth.
I can't call that round, sorry, so tied.
68-67
-
Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 8:
Booth leads off with three or four decent jab, and a left hook as Napa looks to counter. Napa with some to the body, but Booth looks busier with jabs and body shots. Now Napa is walking Booht down. They clinch, but Booth pings in an uppercut. Napa looking with the body shots, and Booth comes back with venom. Napa with two nice hooks up top, as Booth covers up andplods forward. Booth loking to throw some body shots, but Napa is returning more, and booth looks worried. Napa with two hooks, but booth gets one in of his own. THey trade big hooks. Body shot from Booth, and a big hook. Good finish from Booth, but Napa's round.
77-77

Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 9:
Frank Maloney reckons its the person who wants it most will win it. That's why he's the money man. Two hooks from Napa as Booth comes forward, then they clinch and trade body shots. Body shot and a hook from Booth. Booth jabs as Napa digs a right to the body. Good overhand right pushes Napa back. Body shot and glancing right from Booth. Napa misses a hook, and ooth lands a short left hook. Booth works hard with a burst of short aimless hooks. Napa with a nice right. Body shot from booth, but Napa's arms take a lot of the damage. Napa with body shots, but Booth returns one.
Tight, but Booth is looking to throw until he's burnt out, and lands enough to get the round.
87-86

Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
'Round 10:
Booth looking exhausted in the corner. Napa starts well with a few good shot body shots, and a hook. Napa doing well with more body shots, and Booth now countering. Jim Watt has Napa two rounds up. Booth with a few body shots, but covers up as Napa comes forward with body shots, and a hook upstairs. Booth jabs, and gets a hook out of the clinch. Two nice rights from Booth, even though he was swinging with his eyes to the floor. Napa with some cute counters, and body shots to the body. Great left from Napa as Booth misses. Napa works the body, and booth hooks upstairs. Napa jabs, and gets a pari of body hooks from Booth. Napa leans on again, and misses with a counter. They touch gloves.
Napa probably seeing Booth's shots missing too often, and countering well.

Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 11:
I return from the beer fridge to find them both head to head and trading body shots. Booth with a decent hook, and another. They clinch, and some booth body shots connect, then an uppercut. Booth with a nice left, but Napa is throwing body shots, and they trade hooks. Napa with a nice body shot then hook up top combo. They trtade to the body yet again, and Booth is throwing slightly more. Nice uppercut from Napa, then a hook as Booth lunges in. They swap hooks. Body shots from Napa. Right hook from Booth. Nice short left from Booth. Napa with a good right hook though.
I think /Booth edged it, but who knows with this tight action.
106-105 Booth.

Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 12:
Booth slow getting up from the corner. Watty has Napa by 2 rounds. Napa hooks to the body. Booth returns. Napa with a hook and a jab. Booth looking for a way in, and Napa jabs then another body shot. Booth returns it in kind. Napa with a decent hook. They wrestle a bit. Napa with the jabs, and as he comes in a good right from Booth. They trade short hooks again, and a Napa body shot. Napa again. Booth wants the bell, and Napa wants to work the body. Booth with some body shots, then covers up as Napa throws. Right hook from Booth, and a decent left, but Napa keeps coming forward with the body shots. Napa with a body shot and two hooks to the head, then Booth comes back with two hooks of his own.
Napa's round. Tied fight on my card, but cagey all round.
115-115

Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
As they count up the cards, I just realise i cut my finger on a bottle top on the last beer run, and have been bleeding on the keyboard. It's taking a while.
Scores are:
Booth landed 114 to Napa's 123. Booth threw a lot more punches though.
117-113, 115-113, 116-113 to Ian Napa.
Napa goes crazy, and Booth looked like he knew that was coming. Props to him, and to the guys who had Napa ahead, cause he's taken it by UD. Next up is Thompson v Vuma.
-
Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Thompson v Vuma round 1:
Cagey opening, but as Vuma comes in Thompson throws a nice left hook. Vuma looks the bigger more muscular man. A good right for Thompson, and he comes forward with more. Vuma looks like he's wearing a long pair of boxers. Good jab from Vuma. Body shot and right hook up top from Thompson. Body shots from Thompson. Hope sky don't skip rounds in this one, that really annoys me. Vuma stands back and pops the jab. Two body shots and a left up top from Thompson. Vuma is only landing occasional jabs, and misses wildly with ahook as Thompson comes forward.
Thompson
10-9 good start lad.
-
Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 2:
Cagey start to round 2, and gave me a chance to see how ridiculous those tats of Thompson's are... not that i'd tell him to his face mind. Nice jab from Thompson, and a right, left from Vuma. Body shot from VBuma, and misses with a hook letting Thompson popin a few of his own. A couple of body shots too, but Vuma grins back at him. Wild lunge from Vuma, and Thompson throws a left hook in of his own. It's punches in bunches for him, as he doesn't want to burn out. Body shot and a jab from Thompson, and Vuma is looking lethargic.
Thompson again.
20-18
-
Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 3:
Nice right hand from Vuma, and he pops in two good jabs, and Vuma moving more now. More good jabs. Vuma watned for leading with the head. Thompson closes him with a big left hook, though his follow up right is blocked. Vuma switches off a bit again, as his jabs fall short. They swap jabs at range, then a pair of hooks from Thompson pushing Vuma back, before he regains himself. Good jab hook combo from Vuma. Body shot from Vuma, and Thompson returns a body shot. Good right from Thompson, but two big lefts from Viuma, and Thompson is rattled. Bid right from Thompson rattles Vuma, and thompson slips to a knee. Great end to the round, which saw Thompson do the work. Fiver says it don't go 12 after that trade.
30-27
-
Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 4:
Cagey opening again, as they both remember their shakes from the last round. Hook from Thompson. Vuma lands to the body. Good jab from Vuma. And again. Again.Get your guard up. Thompson not doing too much irst half of the round. A jab of his lands to cheers from the crowd. Vuma landing a few body shots, but cagey round. Good left hook from Thompson. They swap jabs. Good right from Thompson as Vuma throws short jabs and straights. Good hook, and a left from Vuma. Thompson gets an 8 count.
38-37 Thompson. He needs to get his head back in this one.
-
Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 5:
Vuma leading in with good jabs, and a big right from Vuma, and he's swarming now, with bog left hooks, and body shots from Vuma. Thompson comes back with hooks of his own. Good dodging from Thompsn, and he puts in a right hook. Right again shakes Vuma. Vuma is flailing, and Thompson with the jabs. Vuma goes down the middle with two jabs, but a big left from Thompson, and Vuma is on the run. Big right from Thompson, and he's got Vuma reeling. Big right to the body, and a left from Thompson, what character, what grit, what balls. Vuma had hhis number last round. Good right from Vuma, but Thompson with a biug right back at him. Body shot, then Vuma takes a knee.
What a round of boxing. Amazing stuff.
48-45 Thompson.
-
Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 6:
The replay of that body shot shows its a sickenedr. They're both going for broke now, as they rade hooks and forget about the guard and the jab. Thompson comes forward with a nice hook. They calm a little, and Vuma with a jab. Jab from Thompson, then wild swings. Big right from Thompson after a clinch. Vuma not throwing too much. Thompson jab, but a big body shot from Vuma. Good right hook from Thompson as Vuma lunges and misses. Vuma's jabing, and Thompson looks tired. Thompson comes in, and ets caught by Vuma, three big hooks from Vuma, and Thompson looks done in again, they're trading, big rights from Vuma, and the ref wants to step in. Vuma gets four unanswered hooks, and the bell saves him.
Vuma's round.
57-55
-
Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 7:
Vuma leads with the jab as he wants to finish it. Thompson counterin now as he looks to recover. Vuma's jabs are getting through, and two body shots. Thompson might need a bum's rush to win thus un. Vuma's jab kncokning that head back. Body shots an a hook from Vuma. Big right from Thompson, as Vuma gets rattled, and another left right combo. Vuma comes back with two jabs, but a hook so wild i worried for the ref getting hit. Thompson pushing out hooks and jabs, but Vuma is coming back with some of his own. Body shots and a hook up top from Thompson. Vuma returns a hook. Good left for Thompson, and two hooks, and Vuma looks to cover and run.
Thompson's round. UI can't believe I'm typing those words after the first minute.
67-64
-
Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Round 8:
Vuma's jabs are accurate. But some hooks from Thompson pushes BVuma backwards. Two jabs from Thompson. Vuma lands a big hook. Two body shots as Thompson is on the ropes, and a third puts Thompson to his knee. 1.30 to go. Big shots from Vuma, as he throws hard body shots and two hooks upstairs before the ref steps in.
Vuma looked the more resilient, but Thompson has showed that he has got loads of potential, heart and balls to want it, and he can entertain a bit too. Vuma was too experienced for him, but fantastic fight.

Re: British Bantamweight Title - Booth v Napa - RBR
Ah bollocks two British losers ruin my entrance into the prediction competition.
I'm pleased for Napa though. At 5 ft 1 he's small by small girl standards so winning a British title is an impressive feat for him.
Booth needs to hang em up, if he can't beat England's own Gary Coleman then he shouldn't be fighting.

After my thread on the British title, and I really couldn't call that fight, Napa's emotion and desire to be the british champion is what the British belt is all about, and he must be revelling in it tonight, after all the efforts he's gone to, and taking the fight at a fortnight's notice and all.
