How much credit will you give Manny for beating MAB?
And where will he be P4P wise??
-
Re: How much credit will you give Manny for beating MAB?
It depends... I thought he shouldn't have been given that much credit for the third fights against Morrales and before it I said he would destroy MOrrales. Now I think Barrera isn't as physically worn out as Morrales at this stage of his career, but I also feel that he can't handle a fast paced opponent. It really depends on how Barrera looks for me. If he looks slow and off then I won't give Manny much credit, but if Barrera is sharp and Pacquaio still over comes him fashionably then I will give him all the credit in the world and say he deserves to be the second best fighter on the planet.

;) :D ;D I think I agree, and I also don't think it takes Manny to P4P number 1 no matter how he wins. I don't give Floyd much credit for fighting all guys coming off losses,I'm not going to be hypocritical and give Manny tonnes of credit either. I would much rather have seen Pacman fight JMM,Soto,Guzman.
-
Re: How much credit will you give Manny for beating MAB?
the only way ill give him credit is if it goes like 9 or more rounds, and barrera looks sharp and hungry as hell.
If barrera boxes superb, gets stuck out takes some htis and throws them like he used to and pac wins ill givr him credit - otherwise 1stKO or 12 round UD it will mean almost nothign to me. I honestly believe marco has no hunger, no fire inside him anymore... after all the pre talk before the JMM fight he seemed he did, the first 6 rounds sucked and he did very little... i love barrera, my all time fav fighter, wishhe would retire tho coz he dont want it anymore, seems to me hes being sacrificed to make manny a GB fighter, nothing more.

Re: How much credit will you give Manny for beating MAB?
If Pac wins by UD/SD (or draw), critics will say = "rusty Pacman"
If Pac wins by late round KO = "what the fwock took him so long?"
If Pac wins by mid-round KO = "he defeated a shot MAB"
If Pac wins by early round KO = "he defeated a wayyyyyyy shot MAB"
If Pac losses in anyway = "Pac is overrated and overhyped after all!"
You see, this is why I hate Pac-MAB rematch. I would rather see Pac against Marquez, Soto, Guzman, Valero or even anybody @ lightweight.

Most posters here are more mature and not narrow minded compare to other forums.
I guess haters are just being haters.. no matter what Pac accomplishes, they'll find ways to discredit him. And ofcourse there's nothing I can do about it coz they're always entitled to their own opinions.
Cheers...

now you see what hatton-calzaghe fans feel like every fight. :D..
this fight has alot more to do with DLH and top rank kissing each others a$$ for a business truce than the fight....
PAC has some good opponents out there no need to fight MAB
-
Re: How much credit will you give Manny for beating MAB?
Barrera had a fine showing against Juan Manuel Marquez so I see no reason to discredit Manny even if he makes short work of Barrera.
After this then any fight except JMM is S*** on a shingle*. That goes for both men.
Manny's next fight looks alot better than JMM's.
*I just want to add that sh*t on a shingle is actually a pretty good meal. It just sounds bad that's why I used it.
-
Re: How much credit will you give Manny for beating MAB?
Pacquiao would get more credit if he fought Juan Manuel Marquez.
Barrera DID give JMM all he could handle in a close close battle. It might have been Barrera's last hurrah, but we won't know until he faces Pacquiao. Respected writer, Steve Kim, told me in person that Barrera would wipe the floor with Pacquiao in a rematch, but that was about three years ago, so that was then.... now we all know Barrera has shown more of his age recently.
I want to see how Barrera will do... but I see it going much the same way... and if Pac fights as good as he did against Morales (he might not, Pac is weird) then he'll TKO Barrera into submission.

Actually there are 2 version the nuthugger version and the truth
If Pac wins by UD/SD (or draw), (nuthuggers) will say = "rusty Pacman"
If Pac wins by UD/SD (or draw),(boxing fan) PAC is over Rated could not beat an old legend. Wow maybe MAB did have valid distractions the 1st time around. What would have happened if the rematch was 3 years ago after JMM exposed PACS weaknesses.
If Pac wins by late round KO = (nuthuggers) "what the fwock took him so long?" ( Cheap socks, blood sampling, he knew he was going to win so was not motivated or excuse pending - ETA Oct 7th, 2007
If Pac wins by late round KO = (boxing fan) Wow maybe MAB did have valid distractions the 1st time around. What would have happened if the rematch was 3 years ago after JMM exposed PACS weaknesses. OK, someday call call a senior shuttle and get MAB back to the home.
If Pac wins by mid-round KO = (nuthugger) PAC for president . Oh he just whipped another Mexican.
If Pac wins by mid-round KO = (boxing fan) "he defeated a wayyyyyyy shot MAB"
If Pac losses in anyway = "Pac is overrated and was overhyped after all!"

One of the few times I agree with you. I know you worship PAC and that's cool but to expect others to see the same as you is preposterous given the route PAC has taken after the JMM fight.
2004
12-11 -- Fahsan (3K Battery) Por Thawatchai, Rizal, Philippines, TKO 4
2005
03-19 -- Erik Morales, Las Vegas, NV, L 12
09-10 -- Hector Velazquez, Los Angeles, CA, TKO 6
2006
01-21 -- Erik Morales, Las Vegas, NV, TKO 10
07-02 -- Oscar Larios, Manila, Philippines, W 12
11-18 -- Erik Morales, Las Vegas, NV, KO 3
2007
04-14 -- Jorge Solis, San Antonio, TX, KO 8
Basically as I see it PAC has not had a superior boxer as an opponent since 3-19-05 and losing to EM. I saw a slow plodding proud EM win but the body language he displayed showed me a spent boxer EM left his spirit in the ring that night and PAC helped him leave it there too. As time would have it his next few fights fully displayed what I saw that night in the ring. I think that PAC needs to silence his critics by mixing in his opponents with younger dangerous opponents in terms of ring experience and fight them in his prime before they mature and become real threats as he ages. There is no reason why he could not beat them all but the current pace has him only earning cash beating oldies working as the doorman (showing the oldies the way out) That is what keeps me from giving the gentleman his due ...The man is already faster and stronger than most his age and that is magnified fighting older boxers with diminished skills.

Re: How much credit will you give Manny for beating MAB?
People are jumping a bit on this MAB is shot thing. MAB is far from shot. He is a seventh round away from having a victory over a top 5 P4P guy. He's not the best MAB, but he's still among the best boxers in the world.
Unfortunately, I don't think the fight bodes well for him almost on styles alone. Still, MAB isn't shot, WAY shot or anything of that sort until we see otherwise. If he tires in 4 rounds, then that's fair to say but right now it's not.
Pac gets credit for beating a great fighter if he wins, but he's already done it once so...

This is definitely true. Barrera isn't shot. He's old, he's past his prime..... but he's not shot. If he was shot he wouldn't have lasted 12 rounds with Marquez.
However, despite not being shot, I don't see how he beats Pacquiao.
Manny is younger, faster, and stronger. That's a tough combination to beat. Manny dominated the first fight, and since that time, Manny has only gotten better, Barrera has only gotten older.

I agree with that post but thats Pacs side of the arguement
Barreras advantage is that he will be focused this time unlike last time. Pacs the one who is the overdog and he doesnt perform well when he is expected to win . He's fought some soft opponents recently that fold too easily but Barrera will shock him . He is more experienced, the better thinking fighter and Barrera always fights his best when people are writing him off like with Juarez , Morales the 3rd time and Nas . Plus Barrera is always better in rematches . Pacs in for a surprise and if you wana make alot of money bet on Barrera

I know that some Pacquiao fans will sad click me for saying this.
I don't think Manny is in a rush to fight JMM. After you knock a man down three times in the first round and let loose your best not to mention hardest offense.
Then he comes back to basicaly win the fight. It does not give much motivation. That does not imply that Pacquiao is afraid of JMM just that if there are other fights with pay days big enough???
Why take chances?

It depnds how he beats MAB.. a tough 12 round decision win would do more for his repect in my eyes than a quick K.O

JMM was the first to turn down a rematch. He wasn't scared, it's just that his trainer Nacho Berntein, is nuts, and wanted millions millions more.
THIS Pacquiao will give JMM a good beating. I seriously think so. The Pac attack that he gave Morales.... if that Pac shows up, then that's more than JMM could handle. Manny hasn't lost a beat in speed and gained in size, strength, and experience. On the other hand JMM has slowed just a bit, yet still maintains his technical talent.
-
Re: How much credit will you give Manny for beating MAB?
I agree Gyro. I would be cheering for JMM alllllll the way BUT he has lost a step and I don't like his more offensive minded approach which he has displayed in his last 3 or 4 fights. Manny has improved although I still don't think he can fight going backwards, something JMM could take advantage of IF he utilises his technical skills(jab, countering, footwork) rather than trying to brawl. It's an intriguing fight. Has jMM slowed down enough for Pac to catch him? Can Pac still be frustrated? Can JMM adjust to this slightly improved Pac. Man I want to see this fight!

Yeah... it's unfortunate that the powers that be won't make this fight. Rather have a MAB fight.... but then again, MAB has earned it for his last fight. Pac doesn't fight MAB until October! Damn, for being in his prime Pacquiao doesn't fight as much as he should. That's the problem. :D

Re: How much credit will you give Manny for beating MAB?
I'll have to disagree with you. I'm not too interested in an MAB-PAC fight. Sure,I'll watch it but I would be thinking about what might have been had Manny been fighting Soto,Guzman,Valero and JMM. I think Manny's inactivity this year was due to a number of factors such as his election campaign and also the cold war between the promotional companies over his services. Next year could be MASSIVE for Manny if he wins this fight. There are alot of big fights to be made and alot of $$$ to be made too.
-
Re: How much credit will you give Manny for beating MAB?
this is all about money, pac won't get much credit in beating mab again if he even gets any credit.
GDB is smart, they send their loser agains top ranks monster. So the money is there but the risk of losing their winner isn't(jmm) BASTARDS!
But for sure I'll still watch the fight, come on this is pac and mab ofcourse we are all there to tune in ;D
but seriously I would love to see pac jmm 2, or guzman soto valero against either pac or jmm.
mab as much as he has given, don't need to give us anymore. If he wins it'll be great for him ofcourse, but bad for the sport. Boxing needs pac, mab is done. But reality is pac will deystroy him which isn't a good thing for mab, but alteast he got paid big dollars for the beating ;)

I'm oldschool. heh I felt that MAB did fight a very close battle with JMM, scorewise. It's not like he's THAT much more older than JMM. ehhhhhhhhhhhh........ your right about JMM, that score needs to be settled.
oh ........... I gotta go. :) lates,
