Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
Alright my people's...here we go again!
HBO's got one hell of a tripleheader planned for us in the welterweight division this weekend! The matches consist of Kermit Cintron vs Walter Matthysse, Arturo Gatti vs Alfonso Gomez, & Antonio Margarito vs Paul Williams.
Ofcourse out of all of these fights to be seen Saturday, July 14th...Williams vs Margarito is the high light for me. Starting at 9:00 p.m. at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ & Home Depot's Center in Carson, CA...Wacko's Drunken Round by Round & HBO will be couchside/ringside for all three matches of this live tripleheader!!!
If I aint mistaken...we start off in Atlantic City & then end up in Los Angeles. Hell of a way to jet set & it should be one fine card for purists & casuals alike.
The starting bout is a battle of welterweight contenders & future hopefuls as they slug it out for bragging rights over 147lbs. Kermit Cintron (27-1, 25 ko's) faces off against Walter Matthysse (26-1, 25 ko's) in a scheduled 12 round welterweight title bout. Cintron's shooting to unify the welterweight division but he's got to get past the very skilled & dangerous Matthysse...this will prove no easy task as both fighters are known for their hellacious knockout power. Should be a scorcher.
Next up on the card? Oh brother. Once again...after two consecutive losses (one to Baldo the other to Floyd), in his 21st appearance on HBO, here comes Arturo Gatti (40-8, 31 ko's) the fighter known as the blood & guts warrior or "the Human highlight reel from Jersey City"! Gatti will be fighting for redemption as he takes on Alfonso Gomez (16-3-2, 7 ko's) in a scheduled 10 rounder of the welterweight division.
Now I know that Gatti's a fan favorite & great for the sport...but really...does anyone really want to see Gatti get beaten again? I mean, is it a sure thing that he'll win Saturday night? I'd have to say that's a big "NO" to both questions...but once again...even though a loss is a possibility...we'll be watching.
The last battle on the card flips from the east coast to a live feed on the west coast of Antonio Margarito (34-4, 24 ko's) finally giving the fans what they want & stepping up to the undefeated Paul Williams (32-0, 24 ko's) in a highly anticipated 12 round 147 pound title fight.
I can't say enough about this fight other than...somebody's gettin spanked & knocked the fwock out!
There's no poll for this DRBR due to all the matches...so just post your picks. Here's mine
Gatti by TKO
Cintron by SD
Margarito by TKO
So cross your fingers dear friends & break out the chips & salsa...pour up the liquor & crack some tops on the brew...it's fight night!
Cheers...& koneecheewah bitches.

Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
CC wacko.
i hope Gatti puts on a good performance and i think he will to be honest, Gomzez aint the best of fighters!
I think if Margarito uses his experience and weathers the storm he can surely stop williams but he will have to be on top form for it.
no idea on the cintron one because i havent seen him before.

Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
Once more into the (alcohol-filled) breach dear Wacko...this is an absolute doozy of a boxing Saturday night. I'll probably be tired from all the British boxing beforehand, but I'll be sticking around to watch this one. How can they push all this live boxing on TV into one weekend, I'm going to have to Sky+ the Duddy fight cause that's in the middle of everything somewhere as well.
CC bro. And make sure you protect those fingers this week....we don't need any unnecessary injuries there now.
-
Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
huge weekend for boxing cannot wait is some one doing the rbr for the Duddy fight?

Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
Hey guys, I'm going to attend the Margarito-Williams fight on sat. Do you guys know if there is any chance they'll show the Gatti-Gomez fight on a big screen or something?
-
Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
It's going to be a great night of boxing.
Gatti is always fun to watch, though I begin to worry that he might sustain perminant damage if he keeps going on like this.
Cintron and Matthysse is guaranteed fireworks.
Margarito - Williams same as above but with higher stakes getting us one step closer to an undisputed champ at WW.
My picks are:
Gatti doing just enough to win his farewell fight by UD (Might be wishfull thinking here but...)
Cintron KO
Margarito UD
-
Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
Gatti might be shot but can a former world title holder really become so shot that he can't even beat a journeyman? I just don't see it. Gatti has to be able to win this fight. I'm saying by ko since it doesn't seem that improbable.
-
Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
Cintron TKO
Gatti TKO
Margarito UD
(Wacks, I believe Gatti actually beat that terrible Danish guy between the PBF and Baldo fights, so technically he's just coming off one loss--not two consecutive; that said, I definitely agree that he's shot and should not be in the ring; but I also picked him to win since Gomez is a C fighter at best, whereas Gatti is probably a B-).

Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
I got the Don Julio ready. ;D Im picking Gomez stoppage...yeah I know I'm askin for sad clicks ....The Cintron Matthysse fight is a coin flip for me... but I'll pick Cintron just because he has had the better opposition. I've been awaiting this last fight since it was signed, Im picking William by UD with maybe a few knockdowns sprinkled in.
CC once again Wacko, I dont know how you type so much and its pretty on time too. Ill be watching first then commenting after the fights, I dont want to miss a single punch.

:coolclick: Miles. Ah mate I am so pleased you've gone for Gatti! I've got a sig bet with Punisher that Gomez will beat Gatti and to be honest since making it I've been a little jittery and uncertain. But now I see your backing 'Thunder' I can sit back and enjoy the fight knowing the result is assured and the next day Punisher will have to write that I'm his daddy :)
Oh and I'm stoked about you picking Williams too. Margarito by decision is what I went for in the prediction contest so I should score well this weekend. 8)

Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
Margarito, TKO 11th round.
Soon after Tony's 15th birthday he fought in the ring. That experience and toughness goes a long way in those ropes.
This is the fight I want to see. I don't care about the Gatti fight. That's the first time I typed his name in months! I think HBO has to break up with him slowly. Cintron fight is interesting, considering Kermit's chin and I know nothing about Cintron's opponent other than his brassy record and KO rating.

It's perfectly possible we could have three wars on this card alone! I'm excited. :)

Tony wins in devastating fashion.

Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
On the final press conference both guys predicted a 7th round KO. So I'm guessing the fight will end in the 7th. hehe

He's too durable to be finished. Those first 4 rounds will be scary for me though.
Margarito will get another shot in a crossroads fight.
He just has to win though. If he wins, he gives us fans Cotto Margarito!!!!!!!
Great Sig, eh Gamo? Inspired by Antonio's 50's toughness and willingness to fight them all.

cc back!
Tony has oldschool written all over him. Funny how few people, like you and me... I think even James Toney, can see that.
Yeah I made it. heh I just had to, this upcoming fight makes me realize how much I'm a fan of Tony.
He reminds me of Erik, just takes on everybody, even if they have the stature and style to give him fits.

Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
I love Paul Williams.
He's young, powerful, flawed, exciting, & good for boxing...but another time.
Margarito will be to savy for him.
