OK folks, so I was wondering after all this debate that we have had about the Kessler v Calzaghe fight, and there are plenty of varying opinons on how good he is, and whether he's a hometown fighter, over hyped or many other permutations, so I think a straw poll of Saddos members, from across the globe, and Britain of course, on how good you all think he is.
He is a world class fighter who has wasted his talent. The fact that Sven Ottke was considered better than him would have made me slit my throat. Galzaghe would have beaten him with one hand tied behind his back. He has two major wins, Eubanks and Lacy the rest are ex-champs. He should have been as famous and rich as Naz and Lennox, he was in that class but he has been a let down. Even if his last 3 fights are with Kessler, Wright/Hopkins, Taylor it would still be a waste of a career. A shame.
hes world class but in that division . with those oponants he is never an all time great , sorry Joe fans but its the truth :)

i'm not a huge fan of Calzaghe but not because of his boxing ability
He's been seriously let down imo by Warren
completly agree with u master he should have been rich and famous but he isn't
it has been a waste
and u have to ask if now it's too late
with his hand breaking during most fights now how long can he realistically carry on ???
he deserved more as a fighter and didnt get it
the onli reason im not a fan is the showboating during the Lacy fight :-\

in a way i guess he had a right to act in that manner but it just ruins things for me personally
although i realise that isnt everybodys opinion
world class at the moment. If he beats Kessler next and then either winkyt or b-hop he'd have to be regarded as an all time great as well.
He unfortunately came through at the wrong time. Think of the class he could of mixed with only a few years earlier...

The thing about opposition is.........who did B-HOP or RJJ really fight that was in their prime?
You can pick holes in any record - but admitedly Warren has not always done a grat job for him (apart from Lacy & Kessler fights)
I'd make him favourite against any of the "great" supermiddleweights... barring Roy.
When he turns Kessler into the Euro-Lacy in a few months time it wont change the knockers view that he's a hometown fighter that obviously ducked Hopkins, Winky, Jones etc...and don't nobody dare compare a protected hometown Eurobum to those great Americans.
Now that the Kessler fight is about to jump off I no longer think Calzaghe a coward. No matter if he wins or gets KTFO I am proud of him now and will no longer hate on him.
My personal view is that Joe Calzaghe is at present rated as a world class fighter, who needs to grab a couple of high profile wins if he wants to earn a place among the all-timers. He hasn't really littered his record with big names that you would see on other records of all-time great fighters, but we shall see what the future holds for him.

That's how my vote went down...good but not great....he has had 20 plus opportunities to unite the division and he hasn't. He had the opportunity to rise up after the Lacy fight and he didn't....finally years later he calls out the likes of RJJ and BHOP...at the obvious end of their HOF careers...now he goes against Kessler...can he go from good to great.....he's got to win first...Quote:

I think he is World Class Fighter but has fought in bad era he has mostly beat washed up former champions or prospect he didn't have Benn Eubank Watson Gerald in his era which is a shame these match ups would of been interesting and exciting its not his fault the division has been weak but it has been weak and it has to be said he has dominated it though props to him for doing it i think he has to take a bit of blame for not taking the big fights but if he beats Kessler you will hear no complaining by me.
I remember him as an Amatuer winning 3 ABA titles at different weights on the trot. You could see he was a bit special even then beating good fighters on the way. Joes got it all a natural, unfortunatly hes got bad hands which in the end will be his demise. That I suppose is why he has altered his style over the years and lived with the problem. Hes better than good fighting with the problem he has, as anybody whose Boxed will tell you, Great Fighter
i went with all time p4p contender.. now i dont mean he is pushing for the top 10 of all time... but hes an all time great and the kessler win will comfirm it...

I think a win over Kessler will help his all time ranking alot. I also think getting away from the WBO would help. Some people think getting away from Warren would help more.

its funny how people make out joe should of fought like 10 guys but didn't... there are only 2, hopkins and roy jones... both of whom are to of the hardest guys in the world to make fights for.... im not gunna waste my time telling u coz most dismiss it now...
search it your self... look into why calzaghe never fought hopkins or jones... other than that he fought everyone worth fighting out there, it sonly the kessler saga that has been dragged out and i think warren, palle joe and kessler all are to blame for this taking such time...
other than the kessler fight being dragged out, i see no reason to get on warrens back about joes career anymore..., what should of joe done that warren stopped ihm doing or didn't make happen?
