Re: News Flash: Calzaghe planning 168lb farewell!!
Joe Calzaghe says his unification bout with Mikkel Kessler on 3 November will be his last at super middleweight.
The 35-year-old WBO title holder says beating Kessler, the Danish WBA and WBC champion, would leave the Welshman without further challenges at 168lbs.
"This will be my last fight at super middleweight," Calzaghe told BBC Wales.
"Win against Kessler and I'd have all the belts and I'd have beaten the best fighter out there, so what else could I achieve at super middleweight?"

Re: News Flash: Calzaghe planning 168lb farewell!!
Good for him, that is a totally legit thing for him to do.
I am interested to see how he does at 175, Although I don't think by the time he gets there, there will be any outstanding competition for him there either.

Re: News Flash: Calzaghe planning 168lb farewell!!
He needs to beat Kess first but if he does,I'd be glad for him to move up. Perfect scenario would be for B Hop to beat Winky and JC B Hop to fight at 175. :D :D :D :D

I think fighting the lankster would be a mistake. He would best served to whoop up on Hopkins.

Re: News Flash: Calzaghe planning 168lb farewell!!
Like to see him give Tarver a fat lip (sorry he's already got one).
-
Re: News Flash: Calzaghe planning 168lb farewell!!
This is gonna be about the tenth time he's having his last fight at 168
If he goes after the Kessler fight it's obvious he's dodging Froch..and Taylor/Pavlik..and Mundine..and the Lacy rematch.

:coolclick: for the info.
:appl: to Joe.
Dominate your division, unify & take out the #2 man...just like you did a year or so back...get no respect...which is total TOTAL bullshit....& then move up.

Re: News Flash: Calzaghe planning 168lb farewell!!
Hats off to him if he does,,,,But I hear so much about what Joe is going to do I take no stock in it until it happens....I still will not believe the Kessler fight will happen until the first punch is thrown....
It is a shame really that there is so much BS politics in the sport you can not count on anything untill it happens...Not just with Calzaghe but all the big names....
What ever happened to fighting thwe top 10 guys all the time once you are the champion?

Exactly 8) let's see mate.

Re: News Flash: Calzaghe planning 168lb farewell!!
It would be somewhat better on Calzaghes body to go up 7 pounds more. He has had difficulties making the weight. Calzaghe's stamina in fights is an enigma considering the strains upon the body!

What your saying is then he should never leave SMW the top 10 list consits of him and 9 other people he has beaten?
And since most times when a fighter gets beat (especialy ones ranked like 10, 9 or 8) they get removed from the list and a new face happens... How can a fighter ever retire?
Also, what list... who do you count? Saddos? fightnews? The Rings? Your ABC organisaiton? What heppens when you have two or three belts? if you only got one you will never unifiy will you?

why on earth should Lacy get a rematch I really doubt he is looking for one unless he is stupid :P .
Froch I would still say is a fighter the needs to prove he is up there to get a shot.
Taylor/Pavlik well they are not at 168 yet so dodging them nah I don't think so.
Mundine hahahhahahahaha ( sorry , I rank him the 3 challenger but the devision looks kind of weak except Calzaghe-Kessler)
I hope that Kessler also would consider moving up after he has presented calzaghe with a TKO in round 10 ::**.

NOOO What I am saying is I will believe it when I see it.......Then I stated it is not just Calzaghe I don't believe what he says until it happens it is all big name fighters.....
The part about fighters fighting only top 10 guys has nothing to do with him moving weight classes.....
Was just a general statement......If all champions only fought the top 10 all fights in their perspective divisions would be had and then they could move on with nothing left to prove....I heard the Calzaghe is moving up in weight thing a year ago but was waiting for the Kessler fight......
If the fight would of happened then and there was not all the BS on why it could not happen from both camps Joe would have been a LH long ago

Re: News Flash: Calzaghe planning 168lb farewell!!
Big deal. He was suppose to move up to Light Heavyweight years ago.

thats cool daxx, i prolly missred what u meant..
but this is the first time Joe has ever stated he will move up... he has said numerous times how he does struggle to make 168 (and he trains like crazy...)
I'm 99.9% certain he has never said i will move to LHW after this fight...
People hate on Joe, but i have never, ever seen him go back on his word...

Re: News Flash: Calzaghe planning 168lb farewell!!
I think this would be the right move for him if he beats Mikkel Kessler, because the other competition is Mundine, who is really nowhere near the level of Calzaghe and Kessler, whatever chum112 would like to think.
As for Taylor v Pavlik, that is a long way down the line, and the winner would not necassarily want to risk it all with a fight against a bigger guy. Anyhow, plenty of time for this to sort itself out.

Taylor or pavilk would ne pointless for him anyhow...
right now people want to defend taylor coz he still aint 'lost' and beat hopkins, if he beats kelly and gets his ass whooped by joe (which he will if he fights him) every former fan will just remind us how taylor luckily beat an old hopkins, jsut beat a LMW wright, and honestly lost to a former WW spinks...
joe's future after he beats kessler is LHW

No Worries.... I should not have made the last sentence without explination my fault...Calzaghe has talked of moving up before though
