Antonio Margarito... before you forget, he's still a VERY dangerous contender.
Dude.... The Punisher just took Tony's small flame and then exploded into the boxing scene.
All this talk of Williams this, Williams that. .... I understand. Of course. It's understandable, he defeated the TJ Tornado.
But let me remind you guys that it was still a close fight. Throughout, it was always competitive. It wasn't a humiliating loss. It was a good fight.
Williams just overmatched Margarito. And I had a feeling P-Will was going to use his movement.... I even had a post on that ;) .
But lets not forget Tony has earned a premier fight for years, while Williams just took Tony's thunder.
Damn :D... boxing is cruel.
I don't think Tony's finished... but too many fighters know he's too dangerous as a tune-up and he won't help their name since many still don't think much of him... it's all P-Will now. HBO loves him too. He fits the bill in this era.
I think Tony's going to come back (He's actually never left) to the scene by fighting a rematch with Cintron. Beat him again, then finally force someone "big" to face him.
And Tony........... someone in your corner (PLEASE!) has to tell you to BE MORE AGGRESSIVE and NOT TOO MUCH ON THE DEFENSIVE! He had Williams in trouble a couple of times, but he spent too much time trying to block.
Aside from that.... Tony, you did good as always. As consistent as it gets.

With the disgraceful way Margarito handled himself after the fight, I would not give him a rematch even if it was the biggest money fight available. You always wonder, though, with these dumbass sanctioning bodies if the WBO won't order a rematch. Hopefully, that won't happen and we'll get a Cintron-Williams unification bout (I'm assuming Mosley, Cotto, and Mayweather will duck Williams until he establishes a bigger name for himself). That has the potential to be quite a fight.

Margarito is still dangerous. If the fight comes through against Cotto then he has his chance of redemption and getting back into the mix quick. Its a tough tough calling though.
Margarito is never active enough and this will have to change if he is serious about bouncing back again.

No way I think Margarito deserves a rematch with Williams...though it was close I still think Williams gave a dominant performance.
But I wouldn't say the way Margarito handled himself after the fight was disgraceful at all. He was disappointed and thought he won. It was more that he wished he won. I did not watch the post fight but I bet margarito, after re-watching the fight would admit loss. . If he doesnt then he is deluding himself, but it's not disgraceful...it isn't like he was dissing Williams (from what I saw) just that he knows he needed to win and sometimes it's hard to immediately accept a loss like that.
He is still very dangerous because he is so tough. I cannot see him ever giving up in a fight, no matter how out matched, out boxed, or out hustled he is.
Even though I had Williams winning the fight, I was thinking that round 11 that Williams might not have what it takes to finish the fight.
For real, I think Margarito's career isn't over, but it is pretty shot. Who is going to want to fight a guy that is never gonna give up like that? He will take what you have to give, and good luck knocking him out or making him quit.
His main deal was making people HAVE to fight him. There are more skilled in his division...but no way is it going to be an easy fight...it will be a fight where you have to go all 12 to win and really test yourself cause he is always going to be there ready to hit you back.
He has got a face made of leather...not going to cut him for a stoppage, not gonna KO him...you are in for a long ass night! He's the kind of guy that even if you start to lose concentration in the later rounds, even if you are dominating him...he can make you pay.

He is not done. He has a couple of years left. He is still a threat and we all seen that against Cintron. Kermit said that was a fluke? Let him prove it and demand a rematch. I would. Styles make fights you all know the drill. Paul Williams will be tough to beat. I have a feeling Pual Williams will be avoided like Tony was avoived. I guess Paul not only took Tony's belt, he also took the torch as the man people will be avoiding in the future. This division is full of danger. I love it! I am dying to see Cotto Williams. Make it happen.

Williams.... I'm surprised he didn't say a Tony rematch. He wanted Cotto. Paul wants his limelight, and he's already got it much faster than Margarito via defeating Margarito. BUT I don't think he's afraid of Tony.... he just has to know though.... that Tony will always be a very very tough fight.

Williams won't be ducked, I can tell you that..... that's just my opinion on that. He won't be ducked, just look at all the hoopla he's caused already. He earned it all, but it gets to me he earned it off a fighter who's earned it for years but never got his shot at a name opponent.

I know we all have this "bouncing back" attitude. I have it too. It really bummed me out that he lost.
But then I said to myself......... "dude........ dude :).... he lost to a pretty good fighter and wasn't humiliated."
He lost, but he's not gone. He's still here. IMO he has the ability to beat Mosley, Cotto, Cintron, and even Williams (if he accepts his loss and realizes his inactivity).
Williams did what a challenger had to do to beat a champion
.... and at 25 he'll be able to make 147 for quite awhile.
He's not my favorite fighter, but I can't deny, he's the new scary man at 147.

I know humbleness is a great virtue. But you gotta understand the competitiveness involved, the pride that beats inside these fighters when they do what they do for a living. They lose and it's hard to accept. As for Vic Darchinyan... not accepting that he was knocked out, that's just plain ridiculous. And Zab Judah attacking referee Jay Nady for stopping the fight because Zab did the chicken dance and fell twice, that was unacceptable. But all Tony just did is say to Larry Merchant that he thought he was robbed. No big deal IMO. It's his loss if he feels that way. I think he can learn to deal with it. But lets not ask too much JUST after a fight that has to do with their lifetime careers man.

I've made no secret of the fact that I think Margarito is the 2nd most overhyped guy in boxing today (following Anthony Mundine). I really don't like the guy because I couldn't stand listening to his fans with the whole "Floyd is ducking me" bollocks. Also though, I find him a boring fighter. I really didn't enjoy that fight on Saturday at all.
However, while I'm a critic, he is a decent fighter with an amazing chin, but I think he's a league below the premier league fighters in this division. He should be fighting Cintron again next. Cintron has massively improved since then.
I also wasn't overly impressed with Williams. Don't get me wrong, he's a good fighter...but I felt at times he was too easily mauled around by Tony, and I think he'd cave under the pressure of Miguel Cotto. I'd pick Tony in a rematch as I think he'd learn from previous mistakes.

This will be the real test of how good he is,will he bounce back,beat some guys like Zab,rematch Cintron or PW or will he mope around like an ass,moan about the decision for a year then fight next year? Or just fade into oblivion? It's all up to HIM. He needs to get more active,fight 3-4 times a year. It'll be interesting to see where he goes from here.

He came back after every loss he's had, so why think different El Gamo? Don't listen to these fools about Tony moping around, he just has too much pride. No big deal. Remember, Tony's used to getting the bad end of the stick.

I think he can beat Williams. He took his best punches and had Williams gasping in the 11th. He just has to gut it out and not try to block the punches as much IMO. "The best defense is a great offense" mentality. But to do THAT he has to admit to himself, not to the public, that he lost and where to improve from there.

Williams.... I'm surprised he didn't say a Tony rematch. He wanted Cotto. Paul wants his limelight, and he's already got it much faster than Margarito via defeating Margarito. BUT I don't think he's afraid of Tony.... he just has to know though.... that Tony will always be a very very tough fight.
That's not really surprising to you, is it? How many fights have you seen where (though close) one guy clearly wins and then says the fight he wants most is a rematch against the guy he just beat (well, I guess Mayweather did that; but Oscar's his own thing). Fights against Cotto, Mayweather, and Mosley would all be bigger than a rematch against Margarito, so it's pretty unsurprising that those are the fights Williams said he wants. It would have been very strange for him to just call out Margarito again. I'd like to see Cotto-Williams. I think Cotto wins, because I still see him as a level up from Margarito and Williams. Margarito-Cintron is the rematch that should happen.

But I wouldn't say the way Margarito handled himself after the fight was disgraceful at all. He was disappointed and thought he won. It was more that he wished he won. For real, I think Margarito's career isn't over, but it is pretty shot. Who is going to want to fight a guy that is never gonna give up like that? He will take what you have to give, and good luck knocking him out or making him quit.
His main deal was making people HAVE to fight him. There are more skilled in his division...but no way is it going to be an easy fight...it will be a fight where you have to go all 12 to win and really test yourself cause he is always going to be there ready to hit you back.
He has got a face made of leather...not going to cut him for a stoppage, not gonna KO him...you are in for a long a** night! He's the kind of guy that even if you start to lose concentration in the later rounds, even if you are dominating him...he can make you pay.

Williams wants to move to bigger and better things..... but you gotta have respect for the champ you just beat.... especially if he never had his claim to fame... and you took it from him in a close fight... and he gave you a shot when he didn't have to (could have faced Cotto as Arum wanted). Remember, P-Will is a new player. He's 25 and he's known.... Margarito is just barely getting known. I believe in showing respect on the overall picture. Get me?

If you think Mosley will fight Williams,you are dreaming. Golden Boy would not put SSM with him,trust me. Arum already said after the fight that he does not want Cotto fighting PW. He didn't think PW won,there is a link somewhere if you'd like me to find it. That leaves Cintron,Margarito and Clottey.
I'd just like to add that Lampley is an idiot. After every round his analysis would be PW throws over 100 punches yet if you look at punch stats,they land near enough simlar % with Margarito certainly landing the harder shots. The scoring for this fight reminds me of Ponce V Penelosa. Ponce threw hundreds of punches every round but never once hurt Gerry. Gerry landed and threw less but made much more of an impact.
I've altered my opinion having seen the fight numerous times,I want to see a rematch. If Margarito can go to court against his own promotional company to get the fight with PW,I'm sure PW can return the favour.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!! I forget about that court thing. I knew it was a big deal for Tony. But yeah.... the court!
P-Will better return the favor. It was a competitive fight, even if The Punisher won.
Margarito's small comments are NOTHING compared to the disrespect Williams will show if he doesn't want a rematch... that's what I think at least.
