Tony still stands by saying he was robbed. (Quotes taken from the post fight)
I just finished watching the post fight press interview.
Tony is bitter. Tony said he was robbed.
Comments by Tony:
"I think some one told Paul Williams that all he had to do was go the distance with me and you will become the new champion."
"Goosen must have a lot power in this business."
He really said some very negative things about Goosen.
More..
"You people saw the fight, he was not landing every shot. I blocked a lot of those punches. Look at my face and look at his. All those lies he said that occured in the gym, never happend. Look at his face. Who is the one that got cut?"
Margarito said he would like a rematch but not under Dan Goosen promotions.
Paul Williams had nothing but nice things to say about Margarito.

That's ridiculous. Goosen is a fine promoter and while I still haven't seen it, all indications are that Tony lost. Tony's fans accepted it now it's time for Tony to man the fuck up and not underhand Williams and the event. It was a great card by all accounts, a great show and for him to say that is bullshit.
I hope Arum gets on his ass for that. Arum and Goosen work well with each other all the time.

I have not watched the fight in a larger format other than the SopCast so I would never honestly try and judge a fight by simply watching it on such a poor resolution but from what I saw, Paul was out hustling Tony. Paul is like a giant Kassim Ouma. I will have to watch the fight later on tonight but, again from what I saw, Tony was not active enough in the early rounds and just gave them away. Different judges look for different things.
We assume most follow this:
Ring generalship
Clean punching
Effective aggressiveness
Defense
Clearly, the ring generalship goes to Paul he dictated the pace of the fight (IMO)
The Cleaner punches came from Tony.
Who was the aggressor? I don't know. (I will get back to you on that) What do you say? Does throwing a lot of punches make Paul the aggressor? Who was moving forwards more? Like I said I have to watch the fight in a better format.
Defense? Judging from all the punches that Paul threw, and then looking at Tony's face, you would have to think Tony was more defensive. Agian, we also have to take into consideration, power shots and body shots.
The one thing that does stick to the back of mind is that Paul basicly took Tony out of his personal punches in bunches routine. What were that punch stats for Tony? I know they were lower than usual. I am sure someone will post the numbers here for us to debate this even further.
PS. Remember that anything I said is based on a poor resolution of a fight so anything I said might change after I watch the fight on a better format. ;D

Well at the end of this all, Tony continued to bash Goosen and Arum did put a stop to it. He said that Tony was not being fair and that his comments were un-called for. So yes, Arum did step in.

Re: Tony still stands by saying he was robbed. (Quotes taken from the post fight)
Guys, please leave it aside, it seems you don't know how it works! Tony tryin to get that rematch alleging he was robbed because he lost the opportunity to make big dough with Top Rank's other Champ Miguel Cotto and Paul is tryin to get in his shoes and make that fight Williams-Cotto happen... As simple as that, Williams won fair and square, it was tough though and Tony still is a force at 147 pounds but no longer a titlist - I don't think we have a rat in the kitchen in Williams as well as I never thought Margarito to be a boogie man or an underrated welter constantly ducked by the name fighters. Paul Williams-Tony Margarito II would only emphasize more that Williams is a real force to be reckoned with in the days to come and at 147!

Re: Tony still stands by saying he was robbed. (Quotes taken from the post fight)
Tony should man up and take his loss like a true warrior. Sorry Tony, but this decision wasn't even controversial, EVERYONE knows that Paul William won. Not even the biggest die hard Margarito supporters are debating the decision (from what I have seen).
He can say he landed the cleaner punches or that he cut Williams, but all it comes down to is who won more rounds. Margarito had a few good rounds but Paul Williams won the vast majority of the rounds, anyone can see that.

Re: Tony still stands by saying he was robbed. (Quotes taken from the post fight
Its fights like these that really make me wish we still had 15 round championship bouts...I had Williams 7 rounds to 5 and I think I was more generous to Tony than most...I think alot of finesse/boxers can stay on their toes and out work a grinder like Margarito over 12 rounds, but if they had to go 15 would run out of gas...If you go back and look at 70s-80s title fights there were a number that were won from 12-15...SRL over Hearns comes to mind as a good example

Re: Tony still stands by saying he was robbed. (Quotes taken from the post fight)
I miss those 15 rounders at times as well...but it may or may not have helped tony on sat. I don't feel anything has to change a lot of guys reguardless find a way to win and tony should have also. He came on a little more midway through the fight which gave him plenty of time to turn things around and still didn't and didn't have enough in him to at least win the 12th and make it closer and didn't. Him waiting 20 rounds for williams to tire or whatever was going through his mind just plain didn't work but please don't start with the i was robbed, poisioned, molested as a child stuff. He had 12 rounds to do what he needed to do and didn't. He needs to man up and face that.

Re: Tony still stands by saying he was robbed. (Quotes taken from the post fight)
What a piece of shit sore loser he is, as much as i wanted to see Margarito/Cotto, Paul did beat him convincingly enough. I beleive Cotto will beat Paul Williams easy while Margarito would be alot tougher for Cotto to beat.

Let's hope you never become a judge.....maybe you are and that's why we've been getting some bad scores? :-\
No way a draw, no way a robbery. I agree with him that plenty of shots did not land clean on him but plenty did, more than he landed on Williams.

Re: Tony still stands by saying he was robbed. (Quotes taken from the post fight)
If it would have been 15 rounds it would have been even worse for Tony; I mean the 12 th round he didn't do jack-squat in. I thought he would have come out blazing in the 12th, but that was his least active round. He looked fatigued to me so I doubt 15 would have helped him. He should have done more early, simple as that.

Well thats what I had it but Ill go back and watch it. Im a fan of Williams style but Im not really a big fan of either guy so i watched it without bias. Like I said though it wasnt a robbert and I can see how it went Williams way.

Re: Tony still stands by saying he was robbed. (Quotes taken from the post fight)
It's kind of sad that he's so adamant about being robbed because that was about as far from a robbery as you can get. I scored it 7-5 with at least one or two rounds that I gave to Margarito on benefit of the doubt that could have EASILY been Williams rounds and most likely were. He had his chance in the 12th to get a gift draw, but couldn't come through. He needs to man up and go back to the drawing board.

Re: Tony still stands by saying he was robbed. (Quotes taken from the post fight)
I lost $$$ on the fight (bet on Tony) :(. I thought that there would be a good chance that the untested Williams would be dragged into deepwaters & drowned by the gritty Margarito. Hey, that's the chance u take if ur gonna bet.
But the truth is he (Tony) was outhustled in the fight. He had a few good rounds & did some good body work. But Williams won more that 6 of the 12 rounds IMO. That's winning the fight.
He's got a bad taste in his mouth because he lost alot of $$$ with the Cotto fight goin down the tubes.
I also bet on Gomez (@+170) so the night wasn't lost for me. ;)

I also scored it 7 - 5 in favor of Williams. There is no doubt Williams did his part but I also saw that Williams did a while lot of punching and holding as well. Half way through the fight the referee finally decided to address to holding situation and the climate of the fight changed in Margarito's favor. I just wonder had he done this in the 3rd round if things might have been different since Williams tired down the stretch? He kept warning Williams that he was going to deduct a point but never did for close o 6 rounds. In my opinion the referee had no control of the fight and that greatly benefited Williams. Kudos to Williams for sticking tom his hit and hold strategy ..... a new John Ruiz is born.Which brings me back to a prior post if excessive holding is cheating ? ( I guess not if the referee ignores it ) But Margarito was not robbed he just never envisioned the challenger getting the fight climate tilted in his favor. It was nice to see a boxing match and not have announcers influencing my view with their comments..
How many warning does a boxer get after a deduction warning ?

Margarito is proving himself to be a whiner like Winky Wright at the Taylor fight (which I felt the draw was well deserved and if not, leaned towards Taylor winning it). Paul Williams put it on him and won the first 8 or 9 rounds easy. Margarito did win a couple after that but he clearly needed a knockout to win and wasnt gonna get it. He got his ass kicked, plain and simple; yet he thinks he was robbed? What a complainer. You should sac up and admit it when you lose a fight, especially one that he so obviously lost. This made me like A.Margarito less, unfortunately.

BOO HOO TONY, U LOST GET OVER IT. Take Zab for an example, he got KO'd and he's already back to his trash talking self!!

Re: Tony still stands by saying he was robbed. (Quotes taken from the post fight)
There is no way he can compare to Wright after the Taylor fight. Most people actually feel that Wright won that. And if they don't, almost no one thinks that Taylor won.
Margarito might feel he did more damage to Williams. He might feel he hurt Williams more but the fight went to the cards and when it goes to the cards it is a matter of rounds won versus rounds lost and there is no feasable way that Margarito won. At the very most, he won 5 rounds. He lost 7 rounds clearly.
There were a couple close rounds, but Williams clearly won more rounds, I scored it 8 rounds to 4 and I gave the 9th to Tony which could have easily been Paul's.
Sorry Tony, you made for a good fight but there is no way you won.
