Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
You know it's easy in the light of Hamed's defeat to Barrera to say that he was overratted and in that fight got shown up as being just a hype machine.
But I'm not buying that for a second.
Watching him at his confident, brash best it's simply unbelievable I've always felt his performance against Robinson was his greatest ever and it really was a clinic.
His reflexes were even faster than Roy Jones and floyd Mayweather imo.
Don't believe me? Go and watch for yourself.
This kid really had it all. Unfortunately his ego and arrogance became his downfall.
But man could he fight! :o

Glad to hear they arrived mate, I thought your government might detain them in case they were a possible threat to homeland security, I'm kind of suprised they allow any post into the mainland at all really!

Hamed certainly made him look like one that night

Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
I own most of Hamed's fights. A friend is going to send me the ones I don't have.
But.....
Naseem Hamed vs Kevin Kelley was a great fight. I uploaded this one like last week. It's a barn burner. Anyway, I liked watching Naz fight. I still do. Like Mister T says: He is just a crazy fool. ;D
-
Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
I watch that fight every now and then, but he broke him down mentally too. When the crowd began chanting "Rob-bin-son, Rob-bin-son", Nas joined in with the chant and to make things worst he began to hit him in-sync with the chanting. It was a clinic too, check out his feints, wicked stuff... :O
-
Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
My fav. Naz fight (yes I have 1 :-X ) has got to be his pro-debut I mean really if you have the whole fight from when he walks out to when he does his flips all around the ring followed by the Ali, shuffle, with the hand speed and finishes off with a hook.
Classic. 8)

Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
Does anyone remember that Nas fight where he switches his feet and lands a bomb? That was slick. 8)

Yes Hamed didnt do this againest a top fighter , Robinson was never world class , if there was only 1 champion in each divison the he wouldnt even have been a contender.
-
Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
He demolished Tom 'Boom Boom' Johnson who, at that time, was ranked in The Ring Magazine's pound for pound ratings.
-
Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
He did pretty good against Barrera considering he wasn't throwing combinations. He just threw one punch at a time and tried to load up with the left.

If you have only looked at his record on Bocrec - then maybe you would think that ;)
If you knew something about him, i.e his until he got a world title shot (as a stand in) he used to be a reserve and take fights at 12 hours notice. He was agood honest pro and a lot better than his record looks

Iagree mate - I don't believe all this crap about him being all hype, I had the pleasure of going to watch the guy and he was amazing. He lost to an all time great - no shame in that - only shame is that he didn't have the sack to come back. He would've beaten any fighter out there except MAB and Morales

I think If he had stopped with Brenden Ingle and had he not got so cocky and trained rite i think he would of beat Barrera.
-
Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
Naz was an exceptional fighter who was universally recognised the best at the weight after beating most of the champions including Tom Johnson, just the politics did not allow him to keep all the titles but that was not his fault. The Robincon fight was a flawless performance, which was his first fight at the weight and Robison was a decent fighter who had beaten aggressive fighter but had problem with movers. That Naz would have given Barerra a lot of problems.

Bilbo spot on mate cc
He was a genius and the money and fame ruined him, people who look at that Barerra fight and think that was the real Naz are kidding themselves and are letting the hate for the man cloud the fact he could of been a great, but he lost Ingle he lost his discipline and didnt train properly.

:coolclick: I remember watching his documentary of his 'preperation' for the Barrera fight. He barely trained at all, he thought he could just turn up and deliver an a** whooping.
He had no respect at all for Barrera and saw him as just another 'opponent'.
I have no doubt that had Naz gone in with a proper attitude of respect he would have won that fight. Barrera still couldn't hurt him and barely touched him. His loss was more of a Dominic Guinn style no effort lacklustre defeat. He wasn't hurt, he wasn't beat up, he just didn't fight that night.
A real waste of talent, he should have been the greatest featherweight of his era.

Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
He easily would have beat Barrera if he threw combos and stopped with the showing off.

Agreed Mick, easily beat Barrera is just stupid, but Naz was already past his prime in terms of discipline and hunger for the game.

I don't Robinson wasn't that good and BIG H i know what you just said but imo Robinson was just a decent fighter he was never elite.
He was elite enough to be ranked third by Ring Magazine behind Kelley and Johnson ;) Then Hamed came along and he dropped to tenth, still elite.

If his reflexes were as fast as Roy Jones as you put in this fight why is it in other fights he gets knocked down 3 times by Kelley wobbled bad by Ingle ?? maybe its because Robinson wasn't all that we was just decent thats it he was never elite.

He isn't elite i don't remember him beating any good names and when i watched him fight i didn't see anything elite about him.

Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
Theres nothing elite about Clinton Woods, other than his current ranking ;)
Top three, ring magazine. I'd say thats elite enough.

Here we go again. Seems like no British fighter is ever a bum or decent. There all elite, great fighters. I'm surprise you haven't started a campaign to get Robinson elected to the Hall of Fame. Robinson was a journeyman fighter who won the crappy vacant WBO title. He defended against no one worth mentioning. When he got in the ring against a good fighter (Hamed) he got his ass kicked. And you call him elite.

Roy Jones and Floyd Mayweather never fought with the reckless abandon that Naz did. His hand's were barely ever above his waistline. He relied purely and totally on reflexes and being able to bend like a limbo dancer.
They guy was basically an acrobat in the ring.

Here we go again, VD not actually bothering the read the post.
Ring Magazine rated him as elite, top three is elite in anyones book.

You said still elite. Anyway let's make this simple. Steve Robinson. According to you Memphis, not Ring magazine, not according to the WBO. According to you. Was he an elite fighter? Yes or no question
-
Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
Of course he was elite. He was easily one of the top five feathers at the time.
-
Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
Great thread Bilbo. Hamed is responsible for getting me FULLY into boxing in the first place. He was always on the undercard on ITV's 'big fight live' and apart from his last fight he was always great to watch.
The Robinson fight was amazing. He had insane reflexes and balance at that stage in his career. When Steve finally snapped (after all the taunting Naz did) and went for Naz in that 15 odd second flurry I was totally on the edge of my seat in awe of it all. Talk about fighting off the back foot, AMAZING.
