Yes, Oscar......c'mon down to 147 (heh-heh-heh)
Looks like Oscar wants a piece of the action. More trophies to add to his legacy, sort of speak. Well I, for one, say....... C'MON DOWN!!!!
Oscar-PBF we've already seen. Been there, done that. Wouldn't want to see a repeat.
Oscar-Williams.... I don't know. Williams has the reach and height, but Oscar's got the savvy and the experience. He knows Williams ain't got one-punch KO power, and that's exactly how Oscar likes it.
Oscar-Mosley.... seen that movie also. And a repeat would end the same way, with a Mosley decision win.
Oscar-Cotto...... Hmmmm..... now we're getting somewhere. Oscar doesn't like it to the body, does he? Hopkins' one-punch liver shot reduced Oscar to a canvas-pounding heap. I wonder what a well-placed Cotto left hook would do? I can only salivate at the thought.
Oscar-Cintron. Yeah, I know everyone thinks Kermit's still a bit raw. And maybe he is. But let me tell you, Manny Steward is one genius of a trainer. And mark my words.... Cintron will be a MAJOR FORCE at 147 soon enough. What am I talking about... he's already a champ. But this is just wishful thinking. Oscar's computer would spit out: "low reward, high risk" This is one matchup that would never get made.
So there you have it. C'mon down, Oscar!

Re: Yes, Oscar......c'mon down to 147 (heh-heh-heh)
It's funny, as most of you know I find Oscar nausuating as a human being with his persona of angelic perfection but I still get excited about watching him fight.
When Michael Buffer announces him, and reels off his seemingly endless string of titles and then goes 'THE GOLDEN BOY', and Oscar is beaming his Hollywood heartthrob smile part of me starts to retch and the other part of me sort of smiles in admiration :-\
I feel like Arnold Rimmer did whenever Ace turned up, it's just his all round perfection that makes me want to stick both my fingers up his nose and apply a live power cord to his testicles.
But he's still a damn exciting fighter to watch and I sometimes even find myself inwardly cheering for him :puke:

So Oscar doesn't like getting hit to the body? Well Cotto doesn't like getting hit on the chin. I say Oscar ko's him with a good left hoot.
Cintron has nothing that makes me believe he wouldn't get ko'ed by Oscar.
Williams:could win on how many punches he throws, but Oscar is faster, and he is a much better fighter than Margarito.

Great points, I know what you mean. Love him or hate him, his fights tend to be exciting. Early on it looked like Vargas was too big/strong for him in their fight in 2002. And last year vs. Mayorga, what a beginning in the 1st round!

Cause he doesn't have it anymore.
Hes too inactive, his stamina ain't gonna get any better and unless he finds someone whos gonna stand there in front of him to get hit then hes gonna get beat.
He stopped throwing the jab, not because it wasn't a night of the jab but because he couldn't let his jab go anymore I'm sure he wanted to throw it but his body wouldn't respond to it.
He retires now and goes on about his promtion business.

Re: Yes, Oscar......c'mon down to 147 (heh-heh-heh)
he just finished a extremely close fight with the P4P in the world, and he's done? if a few questionable rounds went his way it would of been his.
I'm guessing he has 2 maybe 3 big fights left. Can he retire? yes... if he wants to he should. At this point of his career he still has more (talent, experience, etc..) than 95 percent of the guys in his weight class.
-
Re: Yes, Oscar......c'mon down to 147 (heh-heh-heh)
Theres are a couple fights down at 147 for him but
a) he'd have to be very selective about who he fights
b) that would only slow the progress of a great & young division
c) he's old hat and has been beat by a 5ft 7 superfeather weight
He literally needs to mind his own business :D

I agree with the big guy, he certainly still has as much to offer as Shane Mosely and Zab Judah in my opinion and I definitely don't want to see those guys retire.
I'd dispute the fact that Oscar is done at all. For me for a fighter to be done they need to suffer a dominating loss and Oscar never has.
He came closer to beating Floyd than anyone since Castillo 5 years ago and has never been beat up or dominated in a fight.
He could fight any of the top guys at welter Cotto, Williams, Mosely again and nobody on here would be picking Oscar to get destroyed.
He's still got the tools to challenge anybody and having his name still in the mix at 147 just adds to the division's current luster imo.

I just don't see that being enough and now not only that but he want's to move down in weight and fight at 147....
He must be out of his mind if he thinks 147 is a good idea, he would be cutting down weight BIG here....
I can't stress it enough that he needs to retire, if he goes on to fight and loses again he'll only be hurting his career.
I can't stop nodding my head thinking ODLH want's to fight at 147 what a stupid thing to do.... :(
-
Re: Yes, Oscar......c'mon down to 147 (heh-heh-heh)
i respect your opinion cut... However i still don't see why 147 is a big deal...
like i said before, he was 2 questionable rounds away from beating THE MAN who owns 147.
Why can he not do the following
a. Beat him in a rematch
b. Beat anyone under PBF
c. Have a few more HUGE fights before he calls it quits..
If anything, ODLH is making more and more a name for himself and his promotional company by fighting
Watching his performance against pbf shows me no sign that ODLH needs to retire.
Because IMO and in IMO only, i had that fight even. ODLH did not get "schooled", Never has. ODLH to me, hasnt shown any signs of a fighter who needs to hang em up. Sorry.
-
Re: Yes, Oscar......c'mon down to 147 (heh-heh-heh)
i completely agree, i had PBF winning the fight only by one round, and IMO if DLH would have kept up the jab he would have EASILY kept Mayweather in his shell, and would have won the fight, far from being schooled, i think he would beat Williams mainly cause i'd say DLH has the faster hands, more experience, and better power, but he has the chin to take Williams punches, DLH is far more accurate and effective with his punches, than Tony, and also he doesn't throw wide winging punches, Cotto would put up a good fight, or at least a good effort, but i think it'll be just another matador vs bull match, and well the bull wont win, if DLH can get down to 147 again and do it effectively he can become a major force in the welterweight division again
-
Re: Yes, Oscar......c'mon down to 147 (heh-heh-heh)
Thank God there are others on this board who don't think PBF in any shape or form "schooled" Oscar. If Oscar had kept his jab going and fought behind that...he could have won an already close fight. He was at one point reading and blocking Floyd's punches and was able to pepper Floyd with his jab when he threw it. But for some bizarre reason he completely gave up on the jab in the latter rounds. Love him or hate him...Oscar has never been schooled in his career (with the possible exception of the Hopkins fight...and even in that fight he was holding his own until the body shot dropped him). I feel like he has fallen in love with trying to hurt people with the left hook too much in the latter part of his career. But when he wants...the man is as skilled a boxer as there is in the business.

Agreed 100% Mick have a cc. Oscar went from looking like a young guy to an old man in that fight. You could actually see him get old in that ring. I thing that was what he had left and Im afraid if he continues well see a very different diminished Oscar in his next fight. He needs to retire.
-
Re: Yes, Oscar......c'mon down to 147 (heh-heh-heh)
He looked like an old man?! He wasn't throwing the jab because he was tired?! Quite ridiculous comments. No question Oscar isn't in his prime...but he is not washed up. Remember...he was chasing Floyd nearly the entire night and often made the mistake of just trying to unload on him on the ropes. But despite that...i actually think his stamina held up better than it had in recent fights. Anyways, fighters like Hatton and Cotto would be easy pickings for him. He is stronger and far more skilled than both of them...even at this stage of his career.

CC#216 on me BoomBoom I'm just calling it how I see it.
I'm not saying ODLH was schooled or beaten badly by PBF.
All I'm saying is I've followed ODHLs career closely and from the begining I personally think he shouldn't fight anymore.

Would you care to explain/elaborate then why it is that ODLH stopped throwing the jab?
A vet. like ODLH who has been in how many Championship fights and against what type of opposition under how many bright lights?
Unless you actually believe when he said 'It wasnt the night of the jab' ???
His arms were tired and he couldn't set his feet add that to the slickness of PBF and it was taking it's toll on him.
Think back to his fights against Quartey, Tito and Vargas remember the in between rounds/resting periods. Their in the ODLH corners shaking his hands, massaging his legs, slapping his thighs, pouring water on his legs. (Not necessairly in all those things in all the fights but they did do one or the other in each fight)

Re: Yes, Oscar......c'mon down to 147 (heh-heh-heh)
Of all the old veteran fighters out there Oscar has probably slipped the least. He's never been beat up, dominated or outclassed, hell Hopkins aside he's only ever lost one fight by UD and that was by only 2 points on all scorecards to Mosely in a fight most felt Oscar won.
I can't see a single argument for saying he should hang them up. He's still a major force in the game and nobody, and I mean nobody is going to just walk through Oscar.
Fights with guys like Cotto and Williams, maybe even Margarito and Judah would be huge and Oscar is more than capable of winning any of those fights.
He's only ever lost to the world's elite, and two of those losses most felt he won.
You guys know I ain't even a fan of the anointed one but he's the biggest draw in boxing still and I personally want him to stay in the sport until he's ready to retire as he's so good for boxing.

I get what your saying baggins.... I just don't think he can physically do it.
Sometimes your head and your body don't respond the same way. Your head is telling your body to do one thing and your body is telling you 'Nope, I can't do that' and theres nothing you can do about it. I genuinely think ODLH wanted to throw the jab but couldn't he arms and body just wouldn't let him.
For the record ODLH would knock Zabs ass all the way back to Crooklyn from Vegas via Left Hook Air Born Express. 8)

Re: Yes, Oscar......c'mon down to 147 (heh-heh-heh)
He can still attract the big names and make mega fights but I don't think he has what is needed to beat these guys at WW. He's a aprt time fighter, part time promoter. He's getting older. He's lost most of his last fights and his only half decent win in a while was against a Mayorga who was beaten to a pulp by Tito beforehand. So yeah if you want to see fights hyped beyond measure and fights which will attract the average joe,let him come back to 147 but no for every other reason stated. ;D :D

What are u basing ur assesment of ODH at WW from?
Give some input on why u beleive these things that u have posted. Especially what supports the " I don't think he has what is needed to beat these guys at WW" comment. Curious of why u think these things.
So he lost a split decision to the consensus p4p boss in his last fight. The one before that he starched Mayorga. He had the ba**s to step up to a great champion (B-Hop) @ MW who was just to big for him.
I agree that he's inactive, but these fights haven't shown that he can't compete & win at WW. And no he's not gett'n any younger but he's still very good. He has only lost 2 fights in his career @ WW. A majority decision vs Tito & a split decision to Mosely. Hardly disgraceful IMO.

I am basing these comments on a number of things:
His recent form
His age
Being a part time boxer(fighting 3 or 4 times in 3.5 years?) and a promoter
The weight. At his age, having to lose all that weight to get down to WW must be tough. He fought at 160 not too long back.
His stamina as never been that great(bar the Quartey fight12th round) and as he gets older, that is bound to go down too.
ALso the number one reason I think he is coming back is to lure Hatton into a fight. He knows it's his most winnable fight and I think that too. PBF,Cotto,SSM,I'd favour over him. He has no reason to fight PW/Margarito nor do I think he wants to.
I hope this helps ;) ;D

Re: Yes, Oscar......c'mon down to 147 (heh-heh-heh)
I just don't think fatigue played as a big a role as some people think in the Floyd fight. You ask why he stopped throwing the jab? Sure he was probably tired...but i feel he had his mind made up that he was going to fight Floyd ONE WAY...pressure him and try and knock him out/hurt him. He momentarily and successfully threw the jab...but it was almost like he felt he had to stick to only one fight plan. And to say that Oscar was showing his age against Floyd is a bit over the top. I don't how many fighters can chase one of the slickest boxers in Floyd for 12 rounds and not be tired. When he threw the jab...the "old" man consistently tagged one of the best defensive fighters in the world....and the "old" man was even reading/blocking Floyd's punches. All i am saying is that he fought competitively against one best conditioned and skilled boxers in the world. So to say he he "embarrassed" himself or showed his "age" are not particularly valid points.

Still not really gett'n it.
Form.--- His recent form wasn't so bad IMO against the p4p king.
Weight.---- ODH had never had a problem hitting weight. He didn't fight @ MW because of weight issues. Business $$$ & tryin to add another weightclass belt brought him there.
Age.--- Not much of an issue IMO. If u put out all the early to mid 30's fighters. Well, u just wouldn't have a whole lot goin on.
Part time promoter/fighter/etc...--- If u can handle the load then go for it.
Stamina.--- Cross that bridge when u get there. One day isn't here yet. He's never been known to throw 100+ punches in the 12th round. But he has never collapsed. His cardio is not as nearly as bad as the wrap he gets.
I do agree with that he may be targeting Hatton. But IMO that wouldn't be so bad. Infact I would like to see it happen (especially if the PBF vs Hatton fight does not get made).
No disrespect but Williams & not even Margarito (especially now) bring enough to the dance to pull there weight (business sense) to come close to being able to help tote the load for this type of fight.
We will never see him & SSM fight again. And him & PBF #2 doesn't work for me either. But u can never have too many good fighters, fighting. ODH is still a good fighter.
I disagree with & don't comprehend, but respect ur right to have ur opinion.

Well Silent assassin bro, what I wrote down was fact,I didn't make anything up.
Form.--- His recent form wasn't so bad IMO against the p4p king.
Well, that's your opinion. I had it 116-112. The rounds Oscar won were the rounds Mayweather did nothing,Mayweather rocked him to his boots twice and beat on Oscar for the last few rounds,9-12 I think.
Weight.---- ODH had never had a problem hitting weight. He didn't fight @ MW because of weight issues. Business $$$ & tryin to add another weightclass belt brought him there.
That point has no relevance. How does a 33 year old big enough to fight at 160 and go back,to 147 and stay effective when he can't fight 12 full rounds at 154? Don't know what your point is there. Being effective at the weight and merely making the weight are 2 totally different things.
Age.--- Not much of an issue IMO. If u put out all the early to mid 30's fighters. Well, u just wouldn't have a whole lot goin on.
Well,if you think Oscar's skills haven't eroded over the years, you seriously should pay more attention to his fights.( "it was ot the night of the jab" is the stupidest thing I've ever heard in possibly your biggest fight)
Part time promoter/fighter/etc...--- If u can handle the load then go for it.
Well,he got boxed by Sturm, got KTFO by Hopkins. I don't call that handling the load.
Stamina.--- Cross that bridge when u get there. One day isn't here yet. He's never been known to throw 100+ punches in the 12th round. But he has never collapsed. His cardio is not as nearly as bad as the wrap he gets.
He was just panting heavily and unable to land any effective attacks from round 9 onwards v Mayweather. It has nothing to do with throwing 100 plus punches,he could not mount any kind of attack v Mayweather.
I guess we'll just agree to disagree.

Cmon Gamo I don't even like Oscar but I'm not as harsh as you. Oscar has a great chance at 147 in my opinion. By rights he's almost undefeated as a 147 lb fighter, virtually everyone thinks he beat Trinidad, so only Mosely got a legitmate win over him.
Oscar and Shane are the most durable guys at 147 imo, nobody is knocking Oscar out. Oscar also has no fear of anyone in the division. His fight with Floyd I had Floyd winning by 2 rounds and regardless 116-112 against the best fighter on earth is hardly a poor showing.
Nobody else has ever pushed Floyd harder and a different strategy could even have won that fight for Oscar.
I'll go on record as saying if De La Hoya fights Cotto he hands him his first loss 8)

Harder punchers than Oscar haven't knocked Cotto out..... I doubt Oscar would. But I'd gladly sit and watch Oscar mix it up with Cotto. Miguel's hooks to the body come in square and tend to dig in, different than the apparently glancing Hopkins body blow that put Oscar down. Couple of those and Oscar would be looking for a spot of canvas to punch in frustration.

Did I just read that??? Cotto hasn't faced anyone with close to the power, let alone been hit with anything close to Oscars left hook. And the times when Cotto has been hurt by a puncher, it was a puncher who didn't follow it up with any variety or killer instinct... Torres rocked the hell out of him with a couple short hooks but then threw nothing else whatsoever in his attempt to finish. I guess Corley was a harder puncher than Oscar though, what with the one counterpunch he put Miguel on queer street with :D Not to mention his attempt to follow up on Miguel who did his best impression of a newborn calf for a full minute ::** Im not saying Cotto isn't becoming, or isn't one hell of a fighter... But I laugh to myself when his fans try and act like because he's made it out of a couple tough spots against B level fighters he couldn't possibly be in any danger against an elite, bigger man with KO power.

Re: Yes, Oscar......c'mon down to 147 (heh-heh-heh)
Didn't claim Corley was a big puncher, did I? Is Cotto's career limited to the Corley and Torres fights? No..... it's not. And by the way, Torres IS a big puncher, as evidenced by his KO record. Cotto has also fought other credible opposition that people choose to ignore. Even Judah is considered to be a good puncher by many. (Well, at least he was until Cotto beat him. Now he's a bum).
