This guy has such a huge following, and seems to have some skills, but the guy has 20 + fights now and has only fought below par opposition. Is he any good or just a side show? What you guys think?

over hyped , will be exposed soon.
Will his management out him in with anyone who will expose him, or will they milk the cash cow against bums?Quote:

very overrated
He may be overhyped but he's fun to watch and there are ALWAYS paydays out there for guys like him
Only cos he fights at the garden
....you have to have a large following to get that booked if you're "overhyped"Quote:

If John has a Chin ( that is the only real question on him at the moment)....He can win a title....Not a great fighter but he can accomplish something
John Duddy is what boxing needs, he's entertaining to watch and he always comes to fight.
He's definitely no joke but I still think he has a lot to prove. I don't think Pavlik or Jermain would be too worried just yet.
Let him beat an Edison Miranda or even a Sam Soliman first and then we'll see what he's made of.
He's a Mickey Ward level fighter, maybe a better puncher. He'll fight for a world title, not sure that he wins one but he'll doubtless be in some great wars.
I enjoy watching him, he's a crowd pleaser.
...I'll just say anyone afraid of an Irish fighter has more to fear from Andy Lee than John Duddy.
Duddy is like Arturo Gatti, he'll fall short vs the top teir guys and look rough vs the contenders but he'll draw in fans because of his style and well his nationality and where he fights.....Irish people and the Eastern US....I mean it's a given he'll have a fan base
DUDDY'S power covers up his lack of skills. He could win a belt ot two but will be shown up when he fights a fighter with a good chin.
Real Deal!! You suckers writing him off, just wait and see. I think hes got what it takes to be champ. I cant wait til he gets some better opposition, because its about time to turn it up a notch.
I feel he could be the real deal as well. He is ready for some bigger fights. He has a great5 knock out ratio. Both him and Kelly Pavlik fought Leonard Pierre with in a 18 months apart. Kelly ko'ed him in the 2nd and Duddy finished him off in the first. He is the real deal but I am annoyed because the fights he has been taking. He is ready for Felix Strum or Arthur Abraham.Duddy is a good fighter to watch he has a great chin and good power but needs to work on his finishing.I think he is ready for a big fight his name is well known now he needs a belt to go with that name.
suckers?Quote:

What shows you that, his wide open stance when he bangs punches, that would easily get countered by todays best?
Listen, he has a chance to have a better than average boxing career. But he also has the style to get demolished when he finally faces supreme opposition.
I haven't seen any prospect lately with worse defense than him.
He is almost impossible to miss, and considering he tries to stay on the outside some, his defense is just bad.
So no, I just don't see it, he's had way too much trouble with guys like Freddie Cuevas and of course a very very old Yori boy who should have gotten a decision in their fight.
Speculation, he hasnt been in with good opponents but I dont see how stopping Cuevas in 7 is a poor outing. I dont agree that Yory Boy won that fight, the scorecards should have been closer but Duddy definately won that fight. If Duddy had problems with Cuevas how do you explain Jermain Taylor the current undisputed champ going 12 with this C level fighter...Quote:

listen man...Dont backtrack.
You said people who dont believe in him are suckers, but yet the only things you have to say about him being any better is that he can improve on his faults. Ok, i agree on that. he can improve.
We are saying it as of what we see right now!
not just that, if every prospect improved on his faults we would have a crazy amount of world beaters, the P4P debate would include more than a handful of people. (or primarily 2).
The fact is, You say when people are saying fact about his style right now its "speculation". The only speculation here is that he can improve. It will or wont happen. THAT is speculation.
Calm down mister exclamation point, dont get your panties in a bunch, I cant defend a fighter I like?I am just saying I see guys like Mora, Kirkland, Lorenzo, Pavlik, they dont have great names on their resumes, and people dont talk half as much about them. I said suckers, but give me a break, your offended? I apologize if I pissed you off. Your saying he wont become champ, that IS speculation. All I can say from here is lets just watch and see, you can talk trash to me when he gets "exposed", but right now hes undefeated, that means noone has proved me wrong yet ;D
offended? Not really, just really confused on how you go about things...
By the way, i hear alot more about pavlick (even before he lit up miranda) then i ever have of john duddy.
I hate to agree with you Lyle, but I was thinking exactly the same thing about the comparison with Gatti. Duddy is entertaining, goes out there for a scrap every time, and whilst he isn't great at dispatching lower level fighters, I was impressed with his bout with Yory Boy Campas. I agree with another comment that the scores should have been closer, but he did well, battled through, and won the fight in very entertaining fashion.Quote:

He's an exciting fighter. But that's about it. Far as I'm concerned he already has a loss. Old ass Yory Boy Campas beat himQuote:

I think that was a big fight for Duddy to take with his limited number of fights. If you guys dig deep with Duddy , he's never been a great boxer, just look at that mediocre amatuer record. Great brawler tho. Hopefully he turns a corner and gets some defense, but I can live with the current version, because he makes for very fun fights. I won't stop liking him even if he does lose a few fights, as long as he brings it like usual.
He's a real fighter! Just look @ some of his fights he's got heart. I don't think is ever gonna be p4p but he sells tickets & is entertaining to watch. In this day that counts for a lot!
I'd love to see Duddy meet Lorenzo next.
