~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
I just read Dat Nguyen will be making his national TV debut on ESPN:WNF.
I'm really looking forward to seeing him on the telei....
From what I've seen his handspeed looks decent, but it's not as fast as people were making it out to seem, his power is alos decent I would hope for his own good that he develops some power as he developes his body into the division. I would also like to see him more controlled more paced. The fights I've seen of him he looks a bit wreckless and wild. I know that's what hes been praised/liked for I just think if he put a little more defense in his efforts he'd look better.
One other thing to mention is I don't like the Manny Pac reference, I mean the kids got 10 fights and people are talking about him being the next Pac :(
Let's not do to Nguyen what we did to Bojado and others and that's get waaaay ahead of them.
Also I'm saying it right now Carbajal will beat Mike Oliver, I'm telling you. 8)

I agree with you about Nguyen he's still raw & as he steps up in comp we'll find out more about him. Looks like a solid prospect to me though so far!
As for Oliver I gotta disagree with ya mate. Oliver is the real thing. He had his hiccup with Stark Jr now he's got things back on track. I don't think this fight will be close at all. Carbajal is in for a long frustrating night!

I think if Carbajal can do to Oliver what hes been doing all along to his opponents, which is attack the body early and then try to finish them off. Carbajals got a really good chance at it.
About the long frustrating night, that's just it Carbajal needs to take Oliver into deep water if Carbajal can take Oliver to the championship rounds which is where Oliver looked weakest against Stark, having attacked the body early on as he normally does I think Carbajals got the experience to smoother and push Oliver around. There is no doubt that Carbajal will be a pretty big step up in class for Oliver and we'll get to see how good of a chin Oliver has if Carbajal lands any solid shots. On the other hand Oliver quick on his feet and doesn't stay still hes gonna have to be busy cause Carbajal will do something similar to what Margarito did this weekend and that concentrate more on power punches.
CC#161 Galaxy and tho we don't always agree on things it's always good to have someone with whom to chat about the smaller guys.

cc back bro, I don't see Oliver stopping Cruz but the gap in talent is going to be evident. I think Oliver maybe catching Carbajal @ the right time. Carbajal is fighting @ a higher weight than when I think he was at his best & it showed in his draw with Aiken! I'm not saying that Carbajal won't have his moments but I know Oliver can fight! Although this is his biggest step up in competition it is going to be Oliver's coming out party!

You could be right this very well could be Olivers coming out party.

I'm hoping so, I've been following Oliver Jr since he was 3-0. He's got a huge amateur background I think around 300 fights. But I have been wrong before we'll just have to wait & see!!!

Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
man i thought you were talking about football players.
Dat Nguyen of the dallas cowboys.
gonzalez of the kansas city chiefs.
-
Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
I like Dat's hand speed and his power seems decent enough, I think his footwork
and defense suck though. He makes for a great slugger in his division, but his
concrete shoes make me wonder about his future prospects in the Featherweight
division. All in all I like him though makes for exciting fights.
As for the second match I think the slight reach advantage that Oliver will be
the deciding factor, as long as Oliver can keep Carbajal away from his body
for the first four rounds he's got it in the bag. Oliver is going to make
Carbajal look bad IMO.

I don't think so, dat Nguyen is the equivalent of John Smith as far as common names for vietnamese people go.

Isn't dat Dat fella one of Emanuel Stewart's prospects? I thought I heard that somewhere. Does this mean Stewart will be on WNF? I cannot imagine such a thing...

Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
I saw dat nguyen fight and was very unimmpressed. He shows little boxing skill. He does have great determination though and and some heart but he will only get so ino unless he gets a lot better.

Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
Dat "Be That" Nguyen will be judged by many viewers this wednesday. Critics say he'll be the next Manny Pacquiao - "the next typhoon that will cross the pacific" as Merchant described him.

He played Linebacker for Texas A&M and yes he played for the Cowboys

Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
So Dat just finished fighting he won a hard earned Decision.
He looked OK, but to be honest this wasn't necessairly the kind of win/style wise that he needed for his 1st nationally televised debut.
Good fight tho.

Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
4 rounder right now both guys trading shots.

Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
I missed the first fight, damn you ESPN! They change starting times alot...bastards.Saw the last few rounds and it was pretty even.

Yeah, no sh!t. lol!
I just saw him on espn and he fought ugly against a mediocre fighter. His defense suck azz and has no punching power. I just don't like his fighting style.
But he can sure throw over 100 punches per round.

And that along with punches landed is what won him the rounds.

Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
This looks like a good matchup, I think its going the distance. I love these lower weight guys, glad that espn is showing them. Damn Oliver has a big ass forehead ;D
-
Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
Rd. 1 - Good round for Oliver he was making Cruz miss and countered well, Cruz did land a few shots. Oliver threw close to 100 punches.
rd. to Oliver
-
Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
Oliver showing a really good inside game.
-
Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
Cruz with some nice right hands, Oliver answering with some big hooks.
-
Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
Oliver is countering nicely, he seems to have taken a liking to that left uppercut. Real good action so far, I see Oliver landing cleaner, and he is real fast even for Super Bantamweight.Carvajal keeps coming forward tho. I got it 2 round to Oliver as well.
-
Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
What?!?! Godfrey is calling out Darnell Wilson? Oh no you didnt , he'll get sparked by the ding-a-ling man. ;D

Oliver doing the cleaner work, Cruz being the aggressor and attacking the body as I said he needed to.
-
Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
Oliver tried to stel that last round (5)but i'v given the last 2 round to Cruz for effective scoring, hes pressing and connecting on his lead right alot. Good punch when facing a southpaw..its gettin closer as the rounds go by IMO. Oliver isnt tanking hes just not working as much as earlier.
-
Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
Oliver has picked up the pace and is landing alot more on his power shots, he throw a pretty good variety too. Nice lead right hooks , and left counter hooks to the head and body. Carvajal is too one dimensional and hasnt really changed up much to his game. Oliver changes his attack alot more, going on offensive spurts and spurts of counterpunching. Just overall taking over.Last 3 rounds for Ol;iver 6,7,8..I didnt really get to see all round 3 but have rounds 1 2 6 7 8 for Oliver 4 and 5 for Carvajal Im not sure on the third, I had to hit the head.
-
Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
I dont know if Carvajal has it in him but he definately needs to come out looking for a k.o. because hes lost the last 2 rounds and is way down on the cards. He has to know hes behind. Not the most exciting fight, but not a bad showing by Oliver so far.
-
Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
Olivers got this in the bag as long as he doesn't get KO'ed...
Cruz slowed down and just let a few of the last rounds slip by.
-
Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
Good win for Oliver, to be honest I wasn't impressed when he fought Stark and I wans't impressed tonight.
He's just not my cup of tea. :(
-
Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
cc Mick & No Contest, I don't get no coverage of this til later tonight. Thanks for the updates.
Go Oliver!!!

Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
What the hell were they talking about earlier with the armadillos? Someone was chasing armadillos for training...lol just when you thought youve heard it all ;)

Would you look at that...
Pernell vs. McGirt II on ESPN right now. 8)

Re: ~Dat Nguyen vs. Gonzalez and Oliver vs. Carbajal on WNF~
Stupid fightnews.
The other day it said WNF started at 11pm just like last week. So, I'm chillin' on the couch around 9:40 flipping though channels and I see the beauchamp fight. >:mad
It replays @ 4am but I am too tired to make it.
